A rune stone[2] was a magical stone engraved with a rune. They could be used in the magical field of divination.[2]

In the 21st century, the Statute of Secrecy Task Force used them to access various challenges that were related to the Calamity.[1]

History[]

During the 1995–1996 school year, the Hogwarts High Inquisitor Dolores Umbridge interrogated Professor Sybill Trelawney during her Divination classes about her skills in divination, which included requesting her to predict the future with rune stones, along with the crystal ball and tea leaves.[2]

During the Calamity which occurred throughout the 2010s, these mysterious magical stones started appearing throughout the wizarding world. They allowed volunteer members of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force to participate in magical challenges in Fortresses, such as duelling Death Eaters and other Dark wizards, or fighting aggressive and dangerous beasts, such as Acromantulas, Erklings, pixies and werewolves. Many different runestones existed which allowed individuals to enter all sorts of challenges in Fortresses.[1]
