I have always wondered since I read hpatgof and how that it is the first time Harry can see the thestrals but shouldn't he have been able to see the the thestrals since his first year bc the first time he saw death wasn't Cedric it was actually his Mum and even if couldn't remember it he still should have been able to see the thestrals bc he still would've known and if didn't then in his third year he should have been able to bc he was having recollections of the memory restored to him by the dementors

Beacause at that time Harry didnt felt it,he didnt know his mom had died, he was a baby. But when Cedric died, he actually felt it he was depressed.

Ohh, i actually have an answer for this! In the book, he actually passed out before quirrel actually died, so he didn't really see his death. He couldn't see them after his mums death because he was only one year old and he didn't really know what had happened, did know that she died. The reason he couldn't see them until ootp is because he didn't really realize that it was true. He didn't WANT to realize that Cedric had died and Voldemort is back. I hope this has been helpful.😊😊

However at the graveyard in goblet of fire Harry shuts his eyes before Cedric dies, so he shouldn't be able to see the thesrels. Also, he can remember his parents death thanks to the dementors. sooooooooo

I don't think he's actually saw his mom die, but I think he can remember the green light and the scream.
Well, Harry didn't understand his parents dead because he was only 1 years old. In fact in DH when he and Hermione escape from Godric's Hollow he saw memory of Voldemort kill James first then Lily before he went to Harry, in that memory little Harry thought that Voldemort was his father wearing a hooded cloak before realize that not his father and start crying.
And for Quirrell, Harry didn't really saw his death he was passed out before it happen.
