You might have been confused with Grindelwald. Grindelwald was defeated in 1945, not Voldemort.

Hitler and Grindlewald where connected, when Tom Riddle didn't exist at that time. I don't think.

Tom Riddle would have been a student at the time. Grindlewald would have fallen from power. Voldemort didn't come into power the first time until the '70s and 'died' in '81 a few months after Harry turned 1.

One is fantasy...the other is reality...we should not compare them...

Besides, Tom didn't know he was a wizard. Dumbledore must of visited his orphanage between 1945-1950. That is just my estimate.

JK Rowling used Voldemort to represent Hitler and teach kids to feel empathy for those discriminated against. The similarities were probably more of a writing tool than a literal event.

I agree with SingularJor. Voldy has kind of Hitlerish apperance. He wants only purebloods to thrive and kill all muggles.
