When voldemort took over hogwarts he ripped the sorting hat and declared that there would be no more sorting,after that when the things were back to normal how were everyone sorted into different houses???

Maybe voldemort sorted all the kids of death eaters in slytherin....
On the last page of Deathly Hallows (19 years later)- Harry mentions - "the sorting hat takes your choice into account"- so it must have survived somehow.
