So glad to see some real discussion here:
I have a few more questions.
Molly had Bellatrix petrified and defenseless. She could have stopped there and chosen to haul her back to Azkaban. Molly decided to finish her off instead. Is this the decision where it becomes more than just self defence and instead- murder?
If Voldemort had waited for his enemies to throw the first spell before killing them- does that mean he's ok because it's self defence?
If Voldemorts chosen method for killing (in self defence) had been to freeze his opponents and then shatter them- he's not committing murder- it's just destroying them. He's actually a good guy?
For those who have said good or dark side- how do you know the difference in every case, and why do you choose the one you chose?
👍Good
Bentarr you do not know me and how willing I am to do anything to get what I want. No I don't go around killing and torturing people because this isn't the wizarding world, however if it was I would certainly be able to perform unforgivables. And believe me id have at least one horcrux just in case. I have done a lot of things that would be viewed morally wrong to obtain what I want. And if ultimate power could come to me by studying magic until I had skill comparable to voldemort and then me just flicking my wand to kill torture or control anyone in my path to get it I would absolutely do it. Call me awful but I'm just honest.
A bit of both I would like to be a bad good like I am now like sometimes I'm a sweet hufflepuff and then the next it's like watch out she raging
I would go to the dark side.
Molly Weasley did not commit murder. To murder someone, the person killed has to be defenseless and innocent. Bellatrix was killed during an act of combat, Fred was killed in an act of combat, mad eye, lupin, tonks, dobby, Sirius all were not murdered. Simply killed. Harry's parents, Cedric, and those who were killed wandless, defenseless, or innocently unaware of impending death were murdered. It doesn't take someone evil to kill in combat, but it does take someone evil to kill an innocent.
Nice answer (I've upvoted you ;)). I might argue (not that my hearts in it- my definition murder is a little different to yours- but for arguments sake..) as Lily and James were part of the Order of the Pheonix- a group built to fight a 'war' and that James went to hold him off (admittedly without a wand- he'd left it in baby room by accident..) and Lily chose not to draw her wand, so perhaps Voldemort didn't believe he was doing evil (committing murder) in their case- they were just 'casualties of war''. His attempted murder of Harry was evil.... no discussion required..
Just another question. Why did Molly choose to kill rather than stun or disable Bellatrix. There are plenty of less lethal options while dueling. Harry was famous for his use of the harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Disarming_Charm when facing an enemy- indeed it was how he was discovered in the harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_of_the_Seven_Potters
Siriusly Potty Molly did that bc Bellatrix nearly murdered Ginny. I think Molly did it out of rage. She was so fed up with this war, killing people, ripping families apart. Fred had just died, her husband was almost killed by a snake, and Bill was attacked by werewolf. A WEREWOLF. So when she sees Death miss Ginny by an inch, she goes into beast mode. (Remember that Ginny is the only girl and her last child.) all the pent up rage and anger, just BOOM. MOLLY WEASLEY IS FED UP
