The topic I chose for my TriWiz task is: Is Severus Snape really as good as people perceive him to be?
This is a strong topic for me, as I am on the "not so good" side, different to the many people in this community.
I believe he is not as good as perceived, because the negative things he did outweigh the bad things. Here's a list:
Bad things:
-Death Eater/Follower for at least 10 years
-Frequently used unforgivable curses
-Relayed the prophecy that eventually killed the Potters (sorry. It was a crocodile. Don't worry. But seriously)
-Bullied children while teaching
-Discriminated against Gryffindors (Especially Harry, Ron, Hermione and Neville)
-Oh, yeah: KILLED DUMBLEDORE (i don't care if that was planned. He still said the curse)
Good things:
-Switched to the Order of the Phoenix (which can be considered fence jumping - something I hate)
-*Tried* to kill/maim death eaters (killing ain't good, kiddies)
-Gave the sword of Gryffindor the the trio (which was planned by Dumbledore)
I can't think of any more.
Now, yeah we know James and Snape's father both bullied him. But think about it. James was a teenage dirtbag. He was a douche. But Snape, he bullied as an ADULT. And he didn't bully other adults (oh wait he did) but he was Neville's freaking boggart.
I honestly feel that people obsess over Snape. He has no right to be the best Harry Potter character. I was outraged when both Empire magazine and Watchmojo.com named him the best HP character. There are so many other, better contenders. Remus. Dumbledore. Harry. McGonagall. Hermione. Heck, even Voldemort. Snape does not in any way deserve the credit he gets. Sure, he deserves a bit, but not the best character and the other titles he gets.

Hope you liked that. I'm sorry I haven't posted it - I have had a weekend full of cricket.
