This has to be one of the most thought out fan theories out there. He chooses his fathers wand and does not actually get his own. So there is a huge possibility that he is using to wrong want and that’s why he’s so bad at spells. 🤷🏽♀️ I think it’s true.

Wizards still show the same amount of skill with different wands, the spells are just weaker, and unable to reach their full potential
Honestly I think Neville just wasn’t a good wizard and then improved... which I think is a lot better for the actual story, always felt as though the whole “he just had a bad wand, etc etc” too much of an excuse... not trying to say he’s bad at wizardry in general, just like the idea of him improving over time better (especially in dumbledore’s army because he at least slightly felt he belonged somewhere)

Yes it's true as said by ollivander that a wizard can do magic through any instrument if they really are wizards and we can use someone else's wand too but best results however comes from only the wand that's right for us or in other words the wand that choose us. So yes he was using his dad's wand that's why he was bad at spells and at some point he lack confidence so that can be a reason too.
<p>Even though he was using his dad's wand, wand should have obey neville since wand given to him with something like permission. Yes it would be better for him if another wand chose him but this way is not useless either. In pottermore ollivanders says 'wand chosing the wizard method' is his preferance so that mean other wand sellers might not using it. Usinga wand who didnt chose you has to be ok even if it is not perfect.</p>
