GUIDE 5: Where do I contact Admins/Mods?

In order to contact admins and mods, you can reach them on their talk pages by following the links given in Guide 1 (a). There is another alternative as well. A separate post is dedicated to this very purpose. Ministry of Moderation (MoM) (if the issue is an emergency please feel free to @mention them).

User Rename Tool . You can change your username only once so be sure to make it count.

Guide 7: What post in what category?

That is a very tricky question to answer. As humans, we need to categorize everything but we forget to understand that there are exceptions and not everything can be categorized. (My goodness so philosophical. Just answer the question!)

Necessary category:

• General: This is a permanent category set by FANDOM. This category can be used for almost all sorts of discussion that doesn't fall in any of the existing categories but is still a part of the HP universe.

Categories related to the franchise:

• Canon Q & A: Questions that can be answered from the official sources of the Potterverse can be asked here. They can be direct questions or complex. It can also be used for starting a question-based discussion.

• Fan Theories: for theories or possibilities on how the upcoming movies/or old ones (or anything from the Potterverse) might turn out based on the current cliffhanger information that we have. Fan Theories can also include any theory that works from canon and can be argued for or against with canon info (such as Tina is now the Master of the Elder Wand, or Dumbledore/Harry was the Master of Death). Basically, any fan-created theory that has a basis in canon fact and is not just an opinion.

• Spoilers: is as the name suggests for Spoilers. The spoiler time will mirror the spoiler policy on the wiki.

In Between Franchise and Fan creations:

• Opinions: for any post asking for other opinions such as Would you rather, kiss/marry/kill, favourite character, etc. It's for questions that have no canon answer or basis and are just seeing what people like or dislike regarding HP universe. Could also be used to post polls.

• Images & Links: for users to post artwork, memes, videos, & links all related to HP Universe. Advertising is not allowed,

Fan creations:

• Games & Events: for users to host games and events that are directly related to HP Universe and/or has the HP universe as the central theme.

• Fanfics & Roleplays: for users to post art and fan stories or fan fictions and Roleplays related to the Harry Potter universe.

Wiki Maintenance categories:

• New First-Years & Graduates: For new users joining the Harry Potter Wiki and old users leaving the Harry Potter Wiki.

• Mods & Admins: for Mods and Admins to post announcements related to HPW. This category can also be used by users to ask questions to admins/mods. Just make a post in this category and add your issues and @mention admin(s)/mod(s). The post will be locked once the issue is resolved.

HOW TO NAVIGATE THROUGH CATEGORIES?

• FOR APP:

You can select the category that you want to see and unselect the ones that you don't wish to see and click "Done". It is highly adviced to not unselect Mods and Admins category (all updates by the wiki staff are posted in that category. Ignorance to any updates in guidelines will not be accepted as an excuse.)

• FOR DESKTOP:

This is more like the forum experience. You just click the category that you like and you will see all the posts in that category.

GUIDE 8: Text formatting/How to use the Discussions toolbar when creating a post/reply?

Below where the content of a Discussions post/reply is typed, there is an expandable toolbar with several buttons. To expand it, simply click the T in the bottom left.

From left to right, there are options to bold or italicize text, as well as create a bulleted or numbered list. Alternatively, you can use Ctrl-B or Ctrl-I to bold and italicize using a physical keyboard, or type "- space" or "1. space" to create bulleted/numbered lists respectively.

There is also an option for preformatted text, which looks like this:

Preformatted text can generally be used as a way to clearly show which comment(s) a user is responding to. In order to do so, you can select the preformatted text option, paste or type the comment you're responding to inside the given box, and type your response below that.

Following is a button to add links to your post. These are recommended when making a post or comment about a piece of canon information, as they provide a source for your reasoning and increase the quality of a post. Links can also be used to guide users to other posts on the discussions or share different HP-related topics.

You can add a link by simply pasting the URL onto your post, but this button allows users to link specific words or phrases to different sources. For example, if you wanted to add links to a sentence without showing the URLs themselves in your reply, you could say "Harry Potter was a wizard." To do this, highlight the text you want to link, click on the link button (which looks like a chain) and paste the URL where it says "Enter URL" before clicking the checkmark or pressing enter.

Alternatively, when linking an article or website, you can insert the link as stated above, without highlighting text first. This will just leave an embed of the page you have linked to.

Finally, to add an image, click the icon to the far right. This will take you to your saved pictures (or when using the app, there will also be an option to take a new photo). You can select a JPG, PNG or GIF file to add to your post.

GUIDE 9: How to become a Discussions Moderator

A Discussion Moderator is basically a user who is passionate about keeping the Discussions a safe, healthy place that any Potterhead from all backgrounds can participate in.

A moderator can be nominated for rights by a current admin/MOD. In this situation, an admin will host a vote (that will usually last around a week) to see what the community thinks. If a clear majority is in favor (3+ FOR votes), the new MOD will be appointed.

To become a moderator you should have participated in the discussion board actively for a specified time period. You should have a clean record of general good behavior in the community.

GUIDE 13: How to add article tags?

In order to add article tags please click on the "Add tags" button as highlighted in red. Now using the search option, add tags to your posts that are relevant to the content of the post.

You can add tags to memes, image, link, fanfic, roleplay posts as well.
