Is Draco really as bad as everyone says?

Is he though? He grew up in an environment where everyone told him that pure bloods were the superior wizards and witches but as soon as he’s realized he didn’t need to follow his family and realized that Harry saved his life in spite of the jerk he had been he changed from a bully to a tolerable person.

Well his soul was not completely damaged as Dumbledore said but there were no execuses for his bullying. He said Hermione, a mudblood and was Keen to switch sides in order to save his neck. He was a coward.

But yeah, as he matured and grew older like in cursed child, he realised his mistakes and got somewhat a redemption arc.

Rowling's thoughts on Draco:

Rowling explains that although "girls are very apt to romanticise" the "dark glamour of the anti-hero", she writes that she has had to tell fans, "rather severely, that Draco was not concealing a heart of gold under all that sneering and prejudice and that no, he and Harry were not destined to end up best friends

There is no evidence that he changed at all. At the end of Deathly Hallows, he wasn’t willing to commit murder, but he still attacked Harry and friends and endangered their lives so that he could get back in Voldemort’s good books. Then, after Harry saved his life, he still tried to convince a death eater that he was on his side. Draco was a coward, and wasn’t willing to ally himself with Harry even after Harry saved his life.

Draco is such a prat and coward.

I used to adore him due to his cool dark image but after reading the books till the end, I think that growing up in those gloomy and cold environment doesn't give you an excuse to be a jerk. The same goes to Snape who doesn't deserve an excuse to bully Griffindor kids just because he used to be bullied by Griffindors.

I don’t believe that on the inside, Draco is as mean and tough as he seems. We really see this start to come out in the 6th and 7th books. He was raised in a poor way and was forced to work for Voldemort and become a death eater by his parents. And when you think about, Draco wanted to be friends with Harry to begin with, despite knowing he had to do with Voldemort. Somewhere on Pottermore J.K Rowling even said that Draco and Harry actually have more in common than they would like to admit! But all in all, i really don’t believe Draco is that bad at all! Plus I frickin love Draco ❤️❤️

Before Harry came to Hogwarts, there was a lot of speculation that he was a dark wizard, with powers so great and terrible that he was able to defeat Voldemort as a baby. With Voldemort missing and possibly dead, many dark wizards were speculating that Harry could be the next great dark wizard. Lucius probably told Draco to get into Harry’s good books in case those rumors were true. Once it was clear that Harry had no exceptional powers, and that he was siding with Dumbledore, Draco decided to bully him instead.

It is true that Harry and Draco do have some things in common, just like Harry has a lot in common with Voldemort. However, as Dumbledore said, “It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” Harry chose to be a good man. Draco chose to be a bully.
