If he were his own Secret Keeper how would people find him to figure out how to visit him?

@Harrypotterexpert101 do you think that having friendly visits could have been more important to James and Lily rather than saving their son and themselves from Lord Voldemort.

And if you say so they could have told Dumbledore,Sirius,Lupin or even peter about their location in order to keep a link with them.

James would have to go out of his way and leave the house to tell people where he was for check in's and such. The Potter's couldn't stay in the house forever without people bringing them food, plus they would probably need emotional support every once in a while. That is probably why you always want to keep the secret keeper someone that isn't hiding with you...

Firstly , they could've had a witness while performing the charm who could pass on the location to others through notes (As done by Dumbledore in OoP) who could then pay them regular visits with supplies and give them "emotional support".

@Moon765 if you remember , in the Deathly Hallows Bill Weasley says that he and Fleur were the secret keepers for shell cottage and Arthur Weasley was secret keeper for Aunt Muriel's home.
