I think Hermione had good intentions, she just went about it the wrong way. Instead of tricking the elves into freeing themselves, she should have given them options and then accepted their decisions.
^That's actually kinda true.
I’m going with kind of because most House elves don’t want to be freed, Dobby’s case was rare. Like I want to support Hermione, but I have to admit, she’s wrong on this one. Sorry Hermione!
Kind of. I think the elves should be given more rights, like being taken care of while sick, but since Winky was depressed for a super long time, I don’t think they should be tricked into being freed when it’ll affect them for that long.
I just figure... slavery is wrong, even if the house elves have been conditioned to like it. I mean witches and wizards have literal magic, they dont also need slaves. Its ludicrous. There are plenty of ways to raise the quality of life for house elves, and that should be done. I can't fathom why there would be a debate about it.
I WANT TO SPEW!
@AbraAsInCadabra Bruh house-elves literally want to work. It's a different matter from slavery. The house-elves at Hogwarts literally avoided clothes because they wanted to work. Tricking house-elves into freeing themselves is like tricking them into leaving their home forever, and it's just wrong.
Bruh, They can work if they want. However most of them are basically slaves, and that's not okay. They can work and be compemsated and not feel the need to physically abuse themselves if they dispelease their masters. That's a major red flag. No matter how much you say they want it that way, doesn't mean it is fine.
It’s simple, All house elves deserve respect and freedom!
It's not as simple as "They can work if they want to". Freeing a house-elf is like ruining their ego. From a house-elves's perspective, working for their master is like their only goal of life, and while that's a huge problem, there's nothing we can do about it, since house-elves are pretty much convinced that they're only here to serve their master. By freeing them, you're doing intentionally giving house-elves what they don't want: Freedom. A house-elf believes its only purpose is to serve their master. They're happy with it. So why would you take that happiness away from them? That's just being a huge piece of crap. It's much like how Winky was depressed after being freed from Barty Crouch Sr. She felt remorse because she thought she didn't do well enough. And Hermione is hiding socks like mouse traps to free the house-elves of Hogwarts. You see, it's fine for Hermione to call all the house-elves and ask "Who wants to be freed?" or something, but it's not okay for her to want to free all the house-elves in Hogwarts, because 1, she's actually fricking up the school by doing this, and 2, because pretty much all of the house-elves want to stay at Hogwarts, their home.
What do you think?
