@AbraAsInCadabra Bruh house-elves literally want to work. It's a different matter from slavery. The house-elves at Hogwarts literally avoided clothes because they wanted to work. Tricking house-elves into freeing themselves is like tricking them into leaving their home forever, and it's just wrong.
Bruh, They can work if they want. However most of them are basically slaves, and that's not okay. They can work and be compemsated and not feel the need to physically abuse themselves if they dispelease their masters. That's a major red flag. No matter how much you say they want it that way, doesn't mean it is fine.
It’s simple, All house elves deserve respect and freedom!
It's not as simple as "They can work if they want to". Freeing a house-elf is like ruining their ego. From a house-elves's perspective, working for their master is like their only goal of life, and while that's a huge problem, there's nothing we can do about it, since house-elves are pretty much convinced that they're only here to serve their master. By freeing them, you're doing intentionally giving house-elves what they don't want: Freedom. A house-elf believes its only purpose is to serve their master. They're happy with it. So why would you take that happiness away from them? That's just being a huge piece of crap. It's much like how Winky was depressed after being freed from Barty Crouch Sr. She felt remorse because she thought she didn't do well enough. And Hermione is hiding socks like mouse traps to free the house-elves of Hogwarts. You see, it's fine for Hermione to call all the house-elves and ask "Who wants to be freed?" or something, but it's not okay for her to want to free all the house-elves in Hogwarts, because 1, she's actually fricking up the school by doing this, and 2, because pretty much all of the house-elves want to stay at Hogwarts, their home.
This part always reminds me when Lincoln freed the slaves. It took a Civil War. And then many years after before everyone is free. Do you think that would bring another war to the Wizards world? Maybe I don’t think they could handle another War after defending Voldemort. Hermione is a smart girl. She would have free the elves when the time is right. Probably when she is in office herself.
All saying is that they have most likely been conditioned to enjoy slavery, because it's slavery. All I'm proposing, because honestly I don't remember every tenant of SPEW, is that house elves deserve basic compensation and freedom to not be forced to follow every command or self mutilate. I mean why is this a conversation? I'm not saying that tricking them into freeing themselves is the best path, but thinking that they obviously lead awful lives and that there are easy remedies to that, doesn't make me a bad person. I mean your argument is basically, well this one elf that was betrayed by her family was super depressed so they must love slavery... I mean come on.
^When did I only bring up Winky as an example? I already explained that in OotP, Dobby told Harry that no house-elf went to the Gryffindor common room because they were scared that they might get freed. Please read my arguments bro.
Dude, chill. I just saw that you brought up Winky again. Sorry if I don't pour over every word you posted. I'm reading these in between battlefield loading maps. Again, I'm not advocating for them just being out in the world on their own. Just for them to be treated like actual employees. That isn't too much to ask for.
Okay, let's end the argument here.
Look, all I was saying is that Hermione had a point, house elves shouldn't be treated like they are. Maybe her methods weren't the best, but fighting against slavery is still fighting against slavery, which is what this is. To solve the entire problem, all that would have to happen is to treat elves like servants, which at Hogwarts they mostly are but they aren't everywhere. I honestly didn't know this was an issue that people felt differently about.
What do you think?
