Dumbledore got the resurrection stone when he visited the house of Marvolo Gaunt while investigating Voldemort's past. He found the stone in the foundations of the house in the summer after the order of the pheonix. Dumbledore tried to put it on, however the curse placed on the ring by Voldemort caused damage to his hand. Dumbledore then broke the stone using the sword of Gryffindor. Sometime before his death, Dumbledore placed the stone in a Golden snitch for Harry to find.
