It's possible, but the books built up the structure for Harry Potter and the movies took it on a tour. Also, some things are left unexplained in the movies, so the book explained them.

They are good movies, we can't forget that and many people only know the movies and still like them. That being said the movies are only as successful and well made because they had the books as their backup. The books were hyped before the movies so this support of course pushed them a lot

The movies are great as a movie, but the movies are essentially a slightly modified shortened retelling of the books. One reason why the movies so popular is because everyone wants to see their favorite book on the big screen. It’s like those JoJo fans that are happy that Part 6 is finally getting an anime adaptation.

It’s like saying that Pokemon has an anime without the video games existing.
