I reckon that the author doesn't get to decide whether something is canon or not. If the reader doesn't believe it, then it's not. Because although the author created it, it was for readers to interpret, which means that what the author thinks about it doesn't matter

The Cursed Child isn't canon, in my opinion

I would say the children of the Harry Potter generation should be canon, but the plot of Cursed Child should not be canon if we could decide what is canon.
