Why couldn't the ghosts at the battle of Hogwarts participate in fighting? isn't this the best method? they cannot die or get hurt but I'm pretty sure they can harm.

They can still distract the death eaters. just imagine Peeves playing pranks on them, and them not being able to hurt him
