Today's riddle:
I've been part of something unknown to most
And I've helped contribute to laughter
A realization changed another's opinion of me
And a detail may have been inspired by legend
What am I?
Hints: PoA was its first appearance. This was also in the movies. We know the maker of this. This is solid and magical, but not sentient or alive. This is well-known in the wizarding world. You can buy this. People close to Harry have known about this. Harry has interacted with, owned this at one point, and been given this, but has not been mentioned to know the maker.
The first line is in OotP, while the second line is in PoA. Line 3 is in either QttA or the FB textbook. Line 4 is in the BTS section of the article.
The "something unknown to most" was a group of things that were used for the same purpose. The laughter was by an alive male character, and they're the same person that had the realization and opinion. The opinion was originally positive. The detail is regarding the answer. The legend was outside the main series, and as far as I'm aware, it's not mythological.
