What am I?
Hint: This was in the main series, first mentioned in either PoA or GoF. This is not tangible or sentient, but it is magical. This is a spell. It’s been at Hogwarts. Harry has seen this being used. This wasn’t in the movies. It has been used more than once.
The person using it is a deceased male and was of age. If the answer hadn't been used, another's actions would have been impeded due to the exception made. The exception was negative.
This is not a repeat riddle. The whole riddle took place in PoA or GoF, though it has also been mentioned outside that book.
