@Jellooooooooooooooooooooo Literally, I was wondering the same. I mean, I do get at least one thing or two when people say Snape was a hero but to me, he wasn't good but dark grey and an iniquitous anti hero, like despite what he has gone through in his past, some of the stuff he did was plain sadistic as an adult, and he made his own decision even though he didn't have anything reasonable for being like that. I get his bravery in being a double agent and his incredible skill to be able to do that, because you don't need a good person for that and in fact, you need someone as cruel and selfish as him, you need someone so commited that no one suspected anything at all for almost two decades, which would've never been done by someone that's redeemable or anyone with a great moral compass.

But if anyone can prove whatever they want reasonably, then I suppose there's nothing wrong with it even if it's not verifiable, and that being said, I think he's one of the most interesting fictional characters ever written.

The one thing that I've learned from debates that could be a reason: there were some clues that he was ab*sed as a child by his father. Though it's not technically confirmed, it is possible.

Regardless, even if it does justify why he was the way he was, it certainly does not make him a good person, or even a hero.

I suppose, even if he had been abused himself which does give an explanation for whatever he did that can reasonable for some, but it does not justify or defend whatever he had done, and there is still no excuse for him being Neville's worst fear and I might be a bit biased here as Neville is my favourite character. I don't think anyone has to be a good person to be a hero, you can be a bad person and a flawed hero at the same time however, in this case, I'm not sure if 'hero' is the right word to describe him and I'm quite neutral to anything regarding it.

I’m not sure if it’s true or not, but I kinda wish it was. I mean, Voldemort uses the actual killing curse incantation, Harry only uses the disarming charm.

It would make so much more sense. Like, even if Harry was rather powerful at ’Expelliarmus’, it was only a charm. Harry was removed as a horcrux after his death, then he was resurrected, leaving Nagini, Voldemort’s closest familiar. And what did Neville actually do? Kill her.
