I remember in the Order of the Phoenix book, it says Hermione goes from vanishing mice to vanishing kittens.

But why? Kittens are so cute and cuddly even by cat standards, so vanishing them is so graphic. Furthermore, Hermione has a cat and McGonagall turns into a cat so why would either of them use kittens for vanishing?
