They both suited the eras they played.
First and second books were mysterious, calm and mostly introductions to the magical world. Harris played that role to a tee.
3rd book is a tricky one. It has essences of both, Voldemort isnt yet properly introduced, yet the story definitely gets much darker than the previous two. Either of the Dumbledores would have worked great with this film, as they both wouldve been playing to their strengths and weaknesses in PoA
4th book onwards, the story got darker. More tension, aggravating each other and all together trying to fight for their lives. Theres Gambon's speciality. Harris would have been too fragile, and definitely close to the end if he hadn't sadly passed 2 years previous, which wouldnt have suited Dumbledore's attitude in the books from that time.
They wouldnt have suited the other way around, so I'm glad they worked it like that
Richard Harris will always be my favorite, but Michael Gambon was perfect for the future movies for multiple reasons:
Richard Harris would not have been able to do some of the things that were required, like Dumbledore and Voldemort's duel in OOTP.
As the movies got darker, Gambon did an amazing job at portraying that. Yes, Harris would have been able to do that, but not as god as Gambon (in my opinion).
Is GOF the famous "DID YOU OUT YOUR NAME IN THE GOBLET OF FIYAH" line can't be blamed on Gambon, but Mike Newell, the director.
Richard Harris was the kind good ol' grandpa
Michael Gambon was the bad*** old man!
And yeah I loved Michael in OOTP...
I would say Richard Harris is my favorite, and he is how I kind of picture Dumbledore in the books. He does well as the grandfatherly, wise old mentor type of Dumbledore. I do feel Gambon also does well, and does kind of suit the tone of the later movies, and comes across as the more energetic, almost ageless type of Dumbledore, and can show why he was someone whom Voldemort would fear. Like I said, Harris is my favorite, but I really have no problems with Gambon's portrayal.
I can’t pic but I clicked Michael idky
I picked Gambon, but there's actually a scene in OOTP in which I would really want to see Harris being Dumbledore, and that's the appearance of Dumbledore in the Department of Mysteries looking furious. I don't mean Dumbledore appearing via the Floo Network, but a direct realisation of his appearance in the book. I can really imagine the chills and fearfulness I would get seeing Harris appearing as the one person that Voldemort feared. Gambon just doesn't give me enough vibes like that. But on the other hand, Gambon's portrayal of Dumbledore in POA and HBP is just perfect.
Anyone who's thinks Richard Harris couldn't do a tougher portrayed of Dumbledore go watch gladiator. Richard Harris had a commanding performance as a Emperor of Rome
Misclick, I meant Richard Harris sry
I literally can't choose
