Need Advice: Fang or Sword

I am making plans for my version of book 7 (where Harry is a Slytherin) and I suddenly remembered that in canon Harry uses the sword of gryffindor to destroy the locket. Now through other plans I already have in place I was going to have Harry receive a Basilisk fang and use that instead, I even had an alternate reason for Harry and the gang to go to Bellatrix’ vault, but I just realized that Griphook only agrees to guide them in exchange for the sword. Now it is canon that a non gryffindor can hold the sword, just not summon it, but I didn’t want to use the sword at all as I was saving it for Neville.

So my question I need help with is should I replace my original plan with Harry still finding the sword, using it on the locket, and then giving it to Griphook to get to the vault, or should I use my original plan and someone help me figure out another way for them to persuade Griphook to help them.

Actually, Harry doesn't use the sword to destroy the locket, Ron does. Is Ron still in Gryffindor in your version?

Ron is in Gryffindor, but he isn't in the group that hunts horcruxes.

I'm not sure how much you're willing to reveal about your story, but are there any Gryffindors in that group?

Don't get me wrong; I'm not sure if it matters. It is Snape who puts the sword within Harry's reach and Snape isn't a Gryffindor either. The only one who has to get a hold of it by magical means is Neville.

I do have one question, though it may be something you don't care about, since it isn't part of Book 7: how did the Basilisk die in your story, if not by using the sword? After all, in the Chamber of Secrets Harry did have to conjure it out of the Sorting Hat, which he couldn't have done as a Slytherin.

Just Slytherins in the group, Theodore Nott, Tracey Davis, and Allison Runcorn. I think I might have a plan on how to still not use the sword. Anyway for your question, I write my story on this site so if you'd like to read the chapter Harry kills the basilisk you can read it here.

If I understood all of this correctly, then you can't use the sword, because it wasn't used to kill the Basilisk and therefore never absorbed its venom.

Dang, I didn’t think of that, so yeah I couldn’t use the sword anyway. I think what I’ll do is have Harry reach out to Fleur and call in a favour for saving Gabrielle's life and barrow the tiara.
