It's almost 4 AM and I've been sitting in my room freaking talking to myself for 4 hours about this, so I decided to start an argument on why I ship drarry because the more I sit there and talked to myself the more I wanted to share it with you all.
Please Note: If this isn't your ship, please don't make rude comments, I worked hard on this, but I would love to hear your thoughts. I used some of the points from @Jimbob Daddario directioner Herondale-Blackthorn but most of them are my own, as well as a few from Tumblr. Also, these points aren't all why I ship Drarry, the first ones are more of a lead up as to why I do.
*Ahem* Why I Personally Ship Drarry
Throughout the books, we see that they both have a genuine interest in each other. Now, I'm not saying this like "omg they're in love" I'm saying this like they're curious about each other's lives constantly. Draco is always fighting for Harry's attention, and Harry gives it to him, which is a bit out of character for Harry because we see for the most part he tries not to let what others say about him go to heart, but he does let Draco get him all riled up. Some of you may already be thinking, "that's not exactly a good thing," and trust me, I agree, just stick with me here.
2. They are a little bit obsessed with each other. Harry seriously lets Draco fight for his attention all he wants, and the literal second he stops, Harry knows something is up. He stalks Draco like crazy for a full year, and even when he's not wondering wth he's up too, he still has him at the back of his mind. He literally misses a Quidditch Game to stalk Draco. Draco really wasn't any better in the other books. He climbs a freaking tree to taunt Harry, makes badges for the entire population of Hogwarts to scorn him, and is so freaking distracted by Harry doing nothing more than walking into a Charms class, Draco "I'm so cool, calm, and have probably been practicing proper etiquette my whole a** life" Malfoy drops a teacup.
3. Even though they are "enemies", they don't want each other to get too hurt. I can already hear some eye rolls right now. "Oh wow they don't want each other to die, they must be in loooove" but no, that's not what I'm saying. It's the fact that even though they act like they hate each other, they don't genuinely want the other to suffer. Draco might enjoy getting on Harry's nerves, but he proves he doesn't want him to die at Malfoy Manor in more than one way. First, of course, he lies for him. There is no way that he didn't recognize him, but he likes anyway, risking his mother's and his own lives. Second, when Harry wrestles his wand away from Draco, you have to remember Draco was second to top of the class, if he wanted to, he could have shot a spell or done something to keep Harry away, but he doesn't fight him that hard. It's not like he willingly gives up his wand either, but it's more the fact he doesn't want to fight him. Harry is similar. When he fires run unknown spell, he really didn't expect it would hurt Draco as much as it did, and when it does, he is horrified. He feels awful, and says things like "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to," because he is so horrified he hurt Draco that bad. And then obviously how he saves him in the RoR. Of course, Harry does just naturally have good heart, but he proves he can be ruthless to some when he wants too, and Draco isn't one of those people.
4. Then of course, there's my favorite Drarry line ever, which deserves a point itself. ""Don't kill him, DON'T KILL HIM!" Malfoy yelled at Crabbe and Goyle, who were both aiming at Harry." Given, after this he says, "He belongs to the Dark Lord." But it's pretty obvious that Draco wasn't going to hand him over, because he didn't want Harry to die, and that much is obvious by the absolutely devastated look on his face when he sees Harry's body. For me, it's how out of character this is. Draco, has never, not once, had all those capital letters in the series. He is always calculating, getting on Harry's nerves, maybe having a mental breakdown in the bathroom. But that. That moment where he YELLS at them to not kill Harry shows how much Harry means. That the idea of losing Harry is really what makes Draco absolutely lose it.
If you're still with me, I thank you. I would just like to talk a little about The Cursed Child (blegh) Drarry.
5. They switch to "Draco" and "Harry." Some people say that not even friendship would Make any sense for these too, but the Cursed Child disproves this idea.
6. Draco is the only one Harry actually listens to about the Scorpius/Albus shebang. McGonagall talks to him, and he doesn't listen. Ginny talks to him (and it's her own freaking kid for crying out loud) and he doesn't listen. Now Draco struts in, yells at him, and refuses to back down, so Harry eventually listens. This is the kind of thing that Harry needs. Someone who can corral him in, but not too tightly, leading to the next point.
7. Draco handles Harry 200 times better than anyone else in this book. With McGonagall, he starts yelling so she backs down. Hermione tries to kinda manipulate him in a way (not like evilly, just like clever, she's just trying to help), and Ginny kind of just leaves him alone to cool off. But Ginny, just because you walk away from a fire, doesn't mean it won't burn the house down. Since when has Harry ever been the guy to sit with his thoughts, and then calm down? Never. Now I don't remember how long they've been married, but Ginny seriously should know this by now. Draco on the other hand, has Harry blow off some steam with the stupidest duel ever that neither of them really do much of anything during, and all in all, just got Harry to calm down, and see some reason. This relates back to my Point 2. Draco knows exactly how to piss Harry off, therefore he has also learned how to calm Harry down, because he knows him.
8. Harry is someone Draco trusts. Whether he realizes it or not, Draco trusts Harry. He shares things with him in this book, personal things. How he was always jealous of the trio and their friendship, how he wanted to be a Quidditch player but was never good enough, how he felt after his wife died, stuff that is vulnerable and Draco doesn't normally show this side of him with others. Harry is different.
9. Throughout this whole Harry sees his parents die thing, Draco stands right by his side through it all (yeah I didn't see you there Ginny) (jk jk sorry). He also is the only one who asks throughout this thing "Are you okay?" I mean really, can you believe that? All Harry's anxiety and trauma and in that little bit Draco was the only one to say, "Are you okay?"
Wrapping it up, how I see this working as a ship.
10. In Point 1, I say they have a general interest in each other. It would make sense to me that they would try to get to know each other a little after the war, even just as a friendship, because they really can't seem to stay out of each others lives,(cough, SOULMATES, cough).
11. Harry is an optimist, and he sees the best in people. Harry could see the good in people before they see the good in themselves. Harry is Draco's way to the light (I love the way you said that @Jimbob Daddario directioner Herondale-Blackthorn ). He gives him hope, as he did in the war, and I truly believe if they had gotten to talking more, Harry would continue to encourage him.
12. I've already talked about this quite a bit, but Draco just gets Harry, at least later in life. During the war, they suffered similar traumas. Draco lived in a house with a murderer who killed people right in front of him, and threatened to kill his mother if he didn't do as he was told, and Harry literally had a piece of the man who killed his parent's soul living in him. These sound pretty different but it can't be denied that harry and Draco both had unusually closer ties to Voldemort than anyone else their age would understand. I think they would help each other.
13. They wanted similar things life after the war. Harry really didn't want all the fight, and adventures after the war. He wanted to settle down with a wife, have kids, be happy, and live peacefully. Draco wanted all these things too, and I really don't think these two were totally straight so I think the wife one would be negotiable. What they really wanted, was someone who loved them for who they are, not their titles, who would just treat them like normal. Some people say, "Well Draco didn't treat Harry normal, he treated him like dirt." You're right. He did. But he grew up during the war, he learned, and I refuse to believe he would fully treat Harry the way he used too, because he gets it now. What it's like to be treated like scum.
14. This is small, and it might seem dumb, but I think Draco's love language would be receiving gifts, and this would work so freaking perfectly with Harry. Harry is still so not used to being loved, and that's truly heartbreaking. It's part of why he has the softest heart ever, and I love him so much istg. On that first Christmas, that line "I have presents?" freaking kills me. He's so happy and joyful because for so many years, he never got presents, and they all mean so much to him. Draco was raised his whole life learning to flaunt money. All his actions prove this, the way he bought the whole Quidditch team brooms to be included, he thought this was how you made friends. Even the face he looked down on the Weasleys for being poor, it kind of shows he was taught money is love. Now, he would change after the war, but I don't think that would stop him from getting Harry the best, most meaningful gifts he possibly could, because that's how he shows love, and Harry would get it, because Harry loves those small presents.
15. They're literally just so adorable, I mean the way Draco looks at Harry, is just everything. <33333
Thank you for reading. <3
