Yes, there are different ways to deal with them (though I only know, err, 1?) but Snape maybe will be thinking the possibility of not being able to do magic outside of school and/or he was being annoying asf.

Other possible ways that wizards can fight dementors:

1. Occlumency. Possibly, if you do it well enough, the dementors won't even be able to detect your presence.

2. Shield Charm. Dementors are corporeal, after all, so why shouldn't a Shield Charm block them?

3. Conjuring or levitating heavy objects and hurling them at the dementors.

4. Running away. Personally, I wonder why no one ever does this.

Eh, I can see where your coming from cause dementors are after your happy thoughts which are on your mind but then again dementors only suck out your happy thoughts yk. They don't have acsess to see your mind.

What do you mean? Have you ever heard of a dementor going through a wall?

^ I think they meant that dementors are dangerous in close proximity, whether there is a physical wall blocking them or not. That's why even though in Azkaban they don't enter the cells, they have such a drastic effect on the prisoners.

Lol that's what the Doctor would do. Nevertheless, imagine Harry trying to run away from them, he just wouldn't be able of doing so because he would get paralysed.

And I think it might be possible to find other ways of conjuring spells or charms effective on Dementores. Charms names usually come from Latin, and Latin is a language created by humans, which leads me to believe that the first wizards invented the spells and gave those Latin words a magical result or action. Snape did something similar and wrote his new charms on his potions book.

However, since there's no mention of any kind of science about creating spells, I think magicians of our time have stopped researching and creating new charms and at Hogwarts they only teach about the basic and old fashioned spells.

I'm sure Snape was just being contrary. He stupidly said Kappas come from Mongolia when they come from Japan, so he's either really dumb at his favorite subject, or just liked sabotaging his students.

I do have to wonder how Cheering Charms and Laughing Potion would work, though.
