Using Time-Turner to stop Voldemort

What would happen if you used a True Time-Turner to stop his mother, Merope from dying and leaving Tom Riddle to be an orphan or preventing from being born? Would it actually stop the wars and save the lives of everyone who was killed like James and Lily Potter, or would it cause a number of people from being born or a new threat to take Voldemort's place? Which would you choose, keep Tom from going down the path he did and become Lord Voldemort or kill someone like his parent(s) or baby Tom to keep him from being born or growing up.

This gives me another question: Why didn’t third-year Harry and Hermione capture the escaping Wormtail when they went back in time using the Time-Turner? More than hundreds of innocent lives would surely be spared!!

Wormtail may have been too fast as a rat or they did not realize that Pettigrew would have killed/caused the deaths of all those people.

Wormtail was a tiny rat in the forest in the dark. To catch him, Harry and Hermione would have had to somehow find him while avoiding a werewolf and dozens of dementors, and avoid being seen by their past selves.

Preventing Voldemort’s birth would create an entirely different timeline. The differences in the timeline would be almost impossible to predict, but given that it would prevent two wars and numerous deaths, the new reality would likely be unrecognizable.
