Just putting a caveat- I'm not saying that LGBTQ issues aren't important. Just not in a book about kids in a wizarding school...

JKR covered a lot of sensitive issues in the HP series- racism, and predjudice being most prevalent.

I'm always a little dissapointed that people feel their own personal or political views need to be covered in every aspect of every piece of literature and movie making.

Why does sex need to be such an issue even in books where the main character are minors? I can't see how the books would have been better or the story improved by adding detail of anyones sexual preferences.

Being born lgbt is not political or SEXUAL! You do realize lgbt people are born the way they are, right? As in there are over 108.7 million lgbt children in the world, 21.7 million of which are trans kids. LGBT people existing is not sexual.

As I wrote in my first reply, lgbt rep in kids media, just like rep for poc, people of disability, and different religions, is important because it shows kids that they are not alone in the world, that they can have friends and be loved for how they were born, and that their is nothing wrong with how they feel. Harry Potter belongs to everyone and helped and continues to help people who feel put down and alone in the world, so it'd be nice if the world reflected their feeling of belonging back.

Why are straight relationships acceptable in kids books but not gay ones? Just curious about your opinion.

Which nothing to with how you were born. It's about not having to include sex in kids books.

So is harry and ginny "sex"? No, they're just a relationship. So why not include a relationship like that with gay characters?

I'm not a fan of shipping etc. And found the whole Yule ball and romance aspect of the HP novels pretty cliche and boring.

There are plenty of complex and worthwhile subjects covered by the HP series- sexual preference wasn't one of them

@The Dark Marc At least your consistent. You don't want any romance in kids books, whether it's straight or gay. Understandable.

And being lgbt is not sexual. When you were 5 to 12 years old and had crushes on kids of the opposite gender did you want to pin them to the wall and be intimate with them? No, you wanted to be near them them, had butterflies in your stomach, and were all giggly.

Cis-Straight kids have non sexual, romantic crushes all the time on kids of the opposite gender, lgbt kids have the same kind of crushes on kids the same gender. There already is romance in Harry Potter, majority of which is PG, so why is that romance ok but minor lgbt mentions sexual?
