Riddle:
±497
-5²
2×2.5
4×⅙
x=?
Hints: the answer is a deceased witch. The answer died more than a century ago. The answer died at St Mungo's. The answer worked for the Ministry of Magic. The answer didn't appear in the Main Series books, the MS films or any of the video games, but did appear on Pottermore.
Each line is a separate clue, though lines 3 and 4 are the same type of clue.
The number in line 1 is the difference between two other numbers. Those numbers are somehow tied to an experiment. The experiment was a disaster.
The minus sign in line 2 is meant literally. The answer to the equation is an effect of the number currently in the line.
The answer to the equation in line 3 could be 60; that depends on how you define the 2, i.e. the unit of measurement you use. The 2.5 denotes an unnatural change.
The answer to the equation in line 4 could be 4; that depends on how you define the 4, i.e. the unit of measurement you use. The 1/6 denotes an unnatural change.
