A few hours after Draco stared at the picture of him and Hermione's first get together during the Yule Ball, he found his love interest by a tent.
This was going to be very difficult for him, but he had to warn her about the war and tell her why they can't be together just yet.
"Granger..." He said softly, Hermione looked to see him there.
"Malfoy..." She breathes, her face sweating a bit as she just set one of her bags down, "What do you want?"
"I do love you, you know that right?"
"Yes, you told me a year ago... But if you love me why aren't we together now?"
"Because there is a war going on right now that You Know Who started..."
Hermione looked up at Draco in disbelief as his words sent a shiver down her spine. The war. Of course. Voldemort started a bloody war. Her friends, as was she herself, Harry and Ron were going to fight to save the world. She knew the Draco by now would probably participate, so she had to warn him as well.
"You must stay here, Draco. Nowhere else is safe." Hermione told him.
"Don't you get it, Granger?" Draco hissed, "I have to participate too, I'm not who I used to be. If you, mother, and Professor Snape are participating, then I must fight along with you."
Draco then began to run, Hermione was not one to let him get away easily. She went on the chase until both of them got tired, which was when they were in the forest, Draco was going slower though when they both began to slow down, and Hermione held her hand out, grabbing Draco on the shoulder.
"No." Hermione snapped, "You're not going to get yourself killed like this. Professor Snape himself said that he thinks you shouldn't get involved."
"Professor Snape getting involved was the exact reason I'm getting involved, and when I heard you were involved, that gave me an even bigger reason to be there." Draco seethed, "Just because you're brave and intelligent doesn't make you safe either, Hermione Granger. If you're going to fight, then so am I..."
He saw tears in Hermione's eyes and his expression softens, he absolutely hated to see her cry. "Look... If it makes you feel any better... Before we head off... I could give you company for a bit... I heard you, Potter and Weasley were all here, but where the hell did they go?"
"They're asleep..." Hermione told him, "They fell asleep in the tent."
Draco and Hermione slowly walked back to the tent, Draco looked at Harry and Ron, then back at Hermione. "They really are deep sleepers, aren't they?"
Hermione nods, "They don't know you're on our side..."
"Good..." Draco breathed, "They shouldn't know until the war is over..."
"Honestly, Malfoy..." Hermione scoffs, "Why do you tell me, but not them?"
"They think I betrayed them..." Draco sighs, pouring Hermione a drink, "They saw me leave with Professor Snape after he killed Dumbledore..."
"So they still don't know..." Hermione frowns, taking a small sip, "Do you think they'll accept you?"
"To be honest? No. But it's worth telling them at some point, right, Granger?"
Hermione smiles faintly and nods, her and Draco embrace for a bit, it lasted twelve minutes until Draco saw Harry slowly waking up.
"I need to go..." Draco whispers.
"Will you come back?" Hermione asks.
"... If you are still there... yes..."
