Even though I never read full Harry Potter books, I am fully aware of the fact that American versions of Harry Potter books are NOT the perfect copies of the original British versions. The differences in the first book's title is the best example of this. There are also some minor changes. But in the third book there is a change that seems to be nonsensical and appears to be pointless. Namely, in the original British version of the third book it is mentioned that Harry accidentally stepped on Ripper's (Aunt Marge's beloved bulldog) paw. However, in the American version of this book, it is mentioned that Harry accidentally stepped on Ripper's tail. And there is a serious problem regarding this change –
English bulldogs don't have tails long enough to be able to do that. Also, in the movie, Ripper's tail is short and curled upwards. If in the movies Ripper looks exactly the same as in the books, then how could Harry step on his tail? Judging by the length and shape of Ripper's tail, this would be impossible.
