Have you read or watched Half Blood Prince yet? If not, it is perfectly understandable that you don’t know who Slughorn is.

I’ve watched and read all the Harry Potter stuff I just don’t pay attention to side characters lol—

he would most likely be extremely bad (akin to lockhart) and would instead use the classes solely to add people to the Slug Club. He would most likely leave the school after Katie Bell's affliction with the cursed necklace

It might be time to reread/watch HBP, because Slughorn is a fairly major character in that one.
