In all honesty, I think that Severus Snape may be the most evil character in Harry Potter.
Yeah, yeah, I know, Voldemort was the one who killed James and Lily and then tried to kill Harry too, but who do you think sent him? Snape, by telling Voldemort about the Prophecy, and while doing so, he pleaded for Voldemort to spare Lily, but had no issue, in fact, had every desire to watch James and Baby Harry die, with no second thoughts. And the only reason he "left" the Death Eaters was because Dumbledore kept him out of prison and for some reason he thought Snape deserved a second chance even though he had just got done rightfully calling Snape out on his heinous actions.
Oh, and of course, I can't forget him making Harry's life a living hell for about 7 years, abusing him every chance he gets, even to the point where he mentally tortures him and physically assaults him when he is 15 and Snape is 35, and furthermore, Snape tried to kill Harry in Deathly Hallows by trying to get him drowned using the Sword Of Gryffindor to distract Harry out of spite hoping he would die in the frozen pond.
What else do I have? Oh yes, Neville and Hermione. The two that had nothing even remotely to do with Snape's trauma in the first place, yet Snape treats both of them combined even worse than he treats Harry.
With Neville, he makes fun of him while he is already suffering, bullies and abuses him so bad that Neville fears him MORE THAN BELLATRIX WHO TORTURED HIS PARENTS UNTIL THEY WENT FERRETING CRAZY and also the most out of anything in this world, tries to KILL his pet Trevor who is a helpless toad, and when Crabbe nearly kills Neville, Snape doesn't care. He literally doesn't care.
With Hermione... Oh, Snape might've treated her the worst of them all, he calls her an insufferable know-it-all, he calls her a stupid girl (which makes him misogynistic), he tells her she's unattractive while neglecting her ("I see no difference", also note that he refused to take her to the Hospital Wing so she had to run there herself) which destroys her self-esteem to the point where she lets Madam Pomfrey shrink her teeth to normal size which means she technically got cosmetic dentistry BECAUSE OF SNAPE, and even afterwards, Snape STILL continues to abuse Hermione because next he reads Rita Skeeter's Article so loud in front of her she turns scarlet and ALLOWS HER BULLIES TO LAUGH AT HER before proceeding to SEAT HER NEXT TO PANSY PARKINSON! PANSY PARKINSON!
And before you ask, no, I am not a Snape Hater. I'm actually a Snape Fan, hell, I'm still a big Snape Apologist to this day (and no, everything I just said earlier doesn't contradict that fact either), I love him BECAUSE he's so well written as a villain and that his "redemption" was a mess up, because honestly? Why did JK Rowling even try to redeem Snape anyway when he never could be redeemed in the first place. I'm actually glad that his "redemption" was badly written, because that means Snape is a still a good villain. But I do think it's important to address that just because you can like a fictional villain because of how well written they are, it doesn't mean that you should normalize these things. What Snape did was evil, and it's understandable that he does get the fair share of hate he does, I don't hate him, but I can understand why people do.
The only reason he switched sides was because Dumbledore called him out and because he was obsessed with Lily, that's it. It was never love. It was obsession.
And we all have to admit it, it was very hard for me to do so back in 2022/2023 and even half of 2024, but my eyes are open, I will say it, Snape is irredeemable in the Books.
