I don't believe Adam Driver was ever a serious option.. just popular fan cast.. but ignoring all that..
We can hope the reason Paapa was cast, was because he was the best audition.
Does it cause other issues as discussed at great length elsewhere (the whole white James bullying the POC thing..) Sure
Are we seeing ideology and social pressures in action as a more important factor than the promised 'book accurate' version we were promised... I hope not.. I'm really not up for HP being 'reimagined' in the same way Snow White was..
Time will tell.
