More or less. He held a BIG grudge against James, but then saved Harry for Lily, so 50/50, though I voted yes.
definitely <3 i know that his backstory doesn't fully justify his cruelness towards harry in the first six books, but he's an incredibly brave and selfless character as well, if you can get past that.
That would depend on whether you're talking about Book Snape or Movie Snape.
Movie Snape was a scary, strict person who often sassed his students sometimes but he also cared enough about them to put his own life in danger to save their lives, he did love Lily and saved Harry's life several times for her, his past as a Death Eater is toned down but he does show remorse and redeems himself. So if we're talking about Movie Snape, yes.
Book Snape was a cruel, sadistic, racist, irredeemable psychopath who bullied his students and put their lives in danger for his own satisfaction, and he never loved Lily but he was lustfully obsessed with her and objectified her 24/7 (he only took interest in her for her green eyes), he makes Harry, Neville and Hermione's lives a living hell the most with Hermione practically being his favorite target, he puts Hermione's life in danger multiple times and abuses her every chance he gets, he brutally bullies Neville and tries to kill his toad, he insults Ron and makes him a slave for Malfoy after Malfoy himself fakes his injury, and he only ever protects Harry ONCE and even then it's for a selfish reason (when Bellatrix curses him and Snape tells her Harry belongs to the Dark Lord), and overall he has no remorse for his crimes. Oh, I can't forget him physically assaulting Narcissa and shoving a drink in her mouth just to shut her up when she is rightfully worried about her son. So definitely a hell no answer.
Most people consider the Books more Canon than the Movies, so I'll vote no.

I don't hate Book Snape or anything, I love how well written his character is, I'm just saying that this kind of stuff he's doing would not be okay in reality and it shouldn't be taught as okay to readers, you can like evil fictional characters as long as you don't like evil people in real life and understand the difference between reality and fiction.
If Book Snape was actually a real person, I wouldn't like him, in fact, if I entered his presence, I would call the police.
Sadly some people don't seem to see the difference between Book Snape and Alan Rickman acting as Snape in the Movies (which most of Snape's maliciousness was pretty much removed in the Films).
Edit: The fact that more people actually voted yes than no— 🤦🏽♀️ I am losing braincells looking at this poll.

He did good things, and he did bad things. Apart from extreme cases like Voldemort, you generally can’t put people into the neat boxes of “good” and “bad”.
What do you think?
