Does anyone else think it's weird that pewter is the standard material for cauldrons in the wizarding world?
Pewter is really soft and has a relatively low melting point (170c). Its no wonder Neville managed to melt one.
Real cauldrons are normally made of iron (melting point: 1,538c).
Why do you suppose they use Pewter?
