During the next couple of weeks Harry started spending less and less time with Ron and more and more time with Hermione. He started to miss Ron, but also felt jealous of him for reasons he did not understand. One crisp winter morning Harry was walking to The Great Hall when he bumped into Lavender and Ron making out in a broom cupboard “Um, Ron?” Ron let go of Lavender and looked at him “Harry! Uh, Sorry Lav just a moment.” He walked up to Harry and grabbed his shoulder “Do you need anything cause I’m like, in the middle of something” Harry glanced at Lavender “I can see that. But yeah, I don’t know if Ginny told you that we changed the date for quidditch practice, its on Sunday instead of Saturday” Ron’s expression changed drastically “Oooooh, Wish I could mate, but I promised Lav I would take her to Hogsmeade on Sunday, we're spending the whole day together, we have it all planned out” Harry was getting exhausted of having to reschedule practice so often “All right, you don’t have to come this time but you need to come next week or we might have to start looking for a new keeper” Ron gave a concerned smile “All right then, Well thanks Harry” Said Ron as he walked back into the broom closet, Lavender giggled as Ron closed the door. “Ugh” Said Harry as he shuddered and walked away. He entered the Great Hall which was decorated for Christmas with red and green tinsel everywhere and a giant sparkly tree in every corner. He searched the room for Hermione who was talking to Cormac, he walked up to them just as Mclaggan was leaving, Harry slid onto the bench “Sooooo, why were you talking to Cormac?” Hermione took out a piece of parchment and started writing something on it “I asked him out to The Slug Club Christmas Party” Harry’s stomach filled with butterflies, he sighed “Oh” Hermione turned to look at him concerned “Oh? Is anything wrong?” Harry stuttered “No, Of course not! I just- I thought you hated him, and- and what about Ron?” Hermione smiled to herself “I think I’m starting to get over Ron, and as for Cormac, well, he- he- he is- uhh” Harry snickered and Hermione playfully waved him off “Why do you care so much anyways?” Harry quickly tried to swallow his emotions “Oh! Well, I thought we could go together, you know?” Hermione gave a questioning smile “Harry I-” Harry cut her off “As friends of course” Hermione gave a knowing smile “of course. Well it would've been fun to go together but we'll see each other there anyways, right?” “Right” echoed Harry “You could ask Luna to go with you” Harry turned to look at Luna who was sitting at the table behind them about 10 feet away, she wasn’t paying attention to anything “Yeah, Luna would be a fun person to take to a party” agreed Harry “Are you sure you want to go with Cormac? I mean I know him from quidditch and he isn’t the most-” Harry tried to find the right word, he really didn’t think that Cormac would be the best date. “I mean, don’t you want to take someone like Neville or Seamus or... anyone else?” “I know how he is Harry, But he’s excited to go and he seems interested in me” Harry nodded still thinking this had something to do with Ron, but he retired from the argument, knowing that he shouldn’t push Hermione any further if he didn’t want everything to go directly downhill. He went to find Luna, he slightly taped her on the shoulder, and she turned around “Oh, Hello Harry” She said in her usual melancholy voice “Hey there Luna” “You seem to have some ink on your hand” said Luna grabbing his hand a thoroughly examining it, Harry let her study his hand as he had learned that Luna had a certain kind of charm to her, and that charm included being interested in some very mundane things like spilled ink on someone's hand “So, Luna, The Slug Club is having a Christmas party next week, and I was wondering if you would want to come with me?” Luna didn’t look up from studying Harry’s hand, it reminded Harry of the time he and the Dursleys had gone to a carnival and there was a palm reader there who told him he was destined for grand things, well, she wasn't wrong about that. “Yes that sounds like a lot of fun” said Luna, she had pulled her wand out of her hair and was now tracing his hand with her wand, “So, the party is on the 20th and the dress is formal” Luna nodded “I’ll see you then” Said Harry and Luna let go of his hand giving him the chance to walk of, as he walked back to his table he saw Hermione, she was just sitting there doing homework, but he wondered why he had never noticed how beautiful she was, her long curly hair looked like a flowing cascade and her brown eyes shined with a kind of star-like quality, he tried his best to shake off the feeling and return to his seat.
