I agree with some of the above answers they had to get in them selves and quickly what if Voldemort had found a way in they would have to get in quick not spend hours trying to remember which potion isn’t poison and won’t kill them.. and it probably would be a good idea just to apparate but then the story wouldn’t be so exciting and a bit thrilling. A few weeks ago I showed my best friend the wizarding world as she constantly had no clue what me other friend and I were talking about and she was constantly on the edge of her seat waiting to see if harry could get the right key or if they would win the chess game but if you just apparated in it would just be meh.. you know?

Because where harry first grew up with Lily and James was a wizard community kind of thing so there were a few witnesses it says in one of the books I can’t remember which one at the moment.. Yes I know that when lily and James found out they were marked for death they went in to hiding but I know it is in one of the books as I read it not too long ago..
