It seems to me that the different opinions people have is due to the difference between the books and movies. I’ll admit I fell into that trap myself. “Hey! That character is completely different from the one I know! Why? That’s stupid!” I first began watching the movies when I was little, so for a long time I didn’t feel the need to read the books, because I thought I already knew the story and the characters in it.

Snape is a good example. That scene in the end of PoA where they’ve just saved Sirius and Snape loses his temper over something, (I can’t remember what. It’s been a while since I read it. Something about Dumbledore siding with Harry if I remember correctly) really bothered me for a long time because it wasn’t the cold cynical Alan Rickman version I thought that the character was supposed to be.

Exactly what Jcm10313 is saying. Umbrigde is just a more relatable “normal” villain than a mass murdering psychopath like Voldemort. The memes about her being the embodiment of Monday fits her perfectly. She’s Monday and Voldemort is doomsday.

Yet Umbrigde is still a bit more extreme due to that she literally tortures Harry during detention

Yeah, Before I started reading it I didn’t understand the hate. I thought people were nitpicking. I mean, is it really that impossible that Voldy has a child? I don’t think the Dark Lord is unfamiliar with the concept of raping! 😄

Yeah it makes sense for Ron to dislike Draco. So does it for Harry if it wasn’t for the fact that Albus became friends with Scorpious. Harry should’ve realized by then that maybe not all Slytherins are bad.
