So basically I’m writing a fanfic on the marauders and im struggling on how to present the second chapter. Would some of you mind giving me some insight?

See, I’ve got two timelines going on, their hogwarts years and Sirius’ time in azkaban. I’m trying to connect both parts to show how Sirius coped with the dementors.

The first chapter sort of explains the concept, its all dark and stuff, sirius is all alone reliving his worst memories, and it ends with a memory of james comforting him at hogwarts. Which is a weird memory for the dementors to give you, but i promise it makes sense.

For the second chapter, i wanted to jump to a story from their hogwarts years and start showing all the conflicts that lead to explain everything left out in the books.

BUT, im not sure on wether i should start it all happy with the marauders bonding before bringing out the conflicts, or start with the conflicts and have them struggle to keep things fun, or maybe start with different cute mini stories before cutting to the big timeline… does that make sense??

After reading a post abt umbridge i was reminded on an interview where jk rowling mentioned she based umbridge on some woman she hated.

I realized how plain umbridge was portrayed. And i mean that as in her only reason of being on the story was to ensure the struggle between justice and corruption was noted. She wanted to highlight that fact by using this pure interpretation of evil…. But that’s all there is to her.

There’s no motive, no loyalty, no reasoning other than wanting to see others in pain.

Every. single. other. character have those key structures built into them. They have flaws, yes. But they all have l o g i c and h u m a n i t y lodged in somewhere, even voldemort.

And i need someone to tell me what there is to umbridge that gives her actual layers because I’m at a blank. Please.

Context: So there was this conversation on tumblr that i found (i think it was tumblr, i just saw the screenshot- but anyways.)

*still context* So they were talking about how rowena designed the moving staircases at Hogwarts (confirmed from not sure where) and they theorized that it was the reason salazar and helga made their dorms so far away (on the dungeons/kitchen) as it deeply inconvenienced the students. Godric and rowena however, took in the challenge.

Here’s where their theory got interesting. So as salazar and helga were against the idea, they were the ones who made the secret passageways through the school, and that’s when and how salazar made the chamber of secrets! He tricked helga into it somehow, or used their time scheming as an excuse.

I just thought it was something interesting to talk about and i wanted to know what you lot thought about it.

Something else they mentioned was how brilliant rowena’s idea was in case of an attack like the battle of hogwarts as the attackers would have a huge disadvantage compared to the students who’ve been living there.
