Severus Snape and James Potter two of the most loved characters from the Harry Potter universe. Throughout the series we see Snape as a bad guy. However, it was revealed otherwise in the last book. James Potter is thought as a great guy. According to me, James was not much better than Snape. It is necessary to consider their childhoods. While James Potter was always a loved and privileged child, Snape was never loved. His hygienic issues made him a victim of bullying, particularly by James and crew. James got loyal friends (yeah, we have to ignore Pettigrew here) but Severus never really had good friends except Lily which didn't work out.

Snape is hated for being a bully as a teacher, and thus, using his power to humiliate students. He often reduced Neville to near tears, and it turned out Neville’s boggart took his form. Moreover, he was extremely unjust and biased; taking points from Hermione for answering a question word to word from book, like siriusly? Not only this, but every Gryffindor (and probably Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws too) were harassed by him. Also, he believed in blood purity and eventually called Lily a Mudblood. Snape went on to join Voldemort. On the other hand, James Potter was a bully as a child. He absolutely had no right to pick on Snape everytime. Furthermore, he had a huge ego. He was not only proud, but arrogant. Maybe fame on the Quidditch pitch got to his head.

Snape, however, is good in the end. He told Dumbledore about the prophecy and pleaded to protect Lily as well as Harry and James, who was his worst enemy. He spent most of his life spying for the Order while being hated by the members of the Order. His love for Lily was undying. On the other hand, James was also not totally bad. He died for his family, and his love for Lily was also huge. Despite being a pureblood, he never discriminated the muggleborns or halfbloods. James Potter turned into an Animagus to help his werewolf friend. He supported Sirius through all his rough times and went on to join the Order and not the death-eaters like Snape.

I’ve always thought these things and really wanted to share them. I’m a great fan of Snape as well as James; it’s just the little things I wanted to discuss. So what do you guys think, who’s better? Or did they both have their fair share of revenge? I respect your opinions!
