J.K. Rowling has clarified that the animal you turn when in your Animagus form cannot be controlled by you so what happens when you turn into something like a fish! If you are not by a source of water, you could possibly suffocate to death since fish can't live on land so what happens? What if you turn into something so small like a mosquito! It would be truly horrifying since predators can eat you easily and humans can kill you with a swat of the hand! So wouldn't you die?
