Uh, no.
You can live without a girl, you can't live without food. XD
@Luuyuu Fair enough. Like I said, my issue with Lily is a bit more subjective, so it really depends on how you see it. My view is probably a little skewered by the fact that words themselves aren't a huge deal for me. It's the intent behind the word, and in the grand scheme of things Severus didn't really mean the intent, as evinced by his apologizing to Lily and his intolerance of the slur later in life. If you think differently, then I agree to disagree; everyone is entitled to their own opinions. :)
Oh, this is hard. I'll go with Hermione. It's hard to beat the brightest witch of her age, and Hermione wasn't the one who got expelled from school. But this was an interesting question, thanks for posting!
@Forty third as myself Also, FB stands for Fantastic Beasts, in case you were wondering. :)

Popular and attractive does not equal bad. I'm simply comparing some of James' most notable traits to that of a certain stereotypical antagonist.
And another thing to add on to my previous comment - I am by no means saying that racial slurs are good. I agree that they are not okay. Ever. But I'm saying that people aren't perfect, and sometimes imperfect people do things that are not okay, ever. (And then repent of their actions afterwards.)
I don't know you or your situation, but I'd assume that you and your friend aren't in a situation like the one Severus was in. I believe unpleasant things do sometimes slip out when one is angry. I don't swear or use slurs or anything like that, but I have said things I'm not proud of, or at least things I normally wouldn't have said, in the heat of the moment. I can relate, somewhat, to (naturally) a far lesser extent.
Ships are often very weird. I think that means that all of us shippers are weird. As long as one understands that these are fictional ships that don't carry over to real life, I say, let us all be weird together.
That's where you and I would have differing opinions. She didn't "have" to, perhaps, but she could have shown him mercy - instead, she hardened her heart and refused to forgive him. He messed up, but she's the one who refused him when he tried his best to make things right with her, and for that, I blame the dissolvement of their friendship squarely on her.
Or if you want an even longer way, not by blood, but that's more specific than "godfather", try this:
Bella's great-great-grandfather was Phineas Nigellus Black.
Phineas Nigellus' granddaughter was Cedrella Black, who married Septimus Weasley.
Cedrella Black's granddaughter was Ginny Weasley.
Harry married Ginny Weasley.
Therefore, Harry is related to Bellatrix by marriage, and Ginny is related to Bellatrix by blood.
Finally someone agrees that Lily and James Potter were actually kind of nasty people, although not quite for the reasons that I think lol. I won't deny that Lily, and James later in life, were generally quite nice people, and that they fought with the OOTP, loved their family, and did other noble deeds. However, there's an action that each one of them did individually that negates the rest of their good character for me.
James was a bully. That's the straight answer. Not just to Severus, but James also bullied other people growing up. He bullied them because he didn't like them, and he often got away with it because he was handsome and popular. If you think about it, he's the male equivalent of the "it" girl in stereotypical high school movies/novels.
This girl is usually one of the most, if not the most beautiful girl in school. She could be a model with her good looks.
She's the most popular girl in school.
She has a girl squad.
She's arrogant.
She dates or wants to date the popular, handsome star athlete (we don't know how popular Lily was, but we know she was attractive and smart and Head Girl).
She can afford trendy clothes/makeup/items, so she likely comes from an affluent family.
She's nice to her friends, but she bullies the geeky/weirdo/unpopular/poor kid.
If you flipped the genders, this sounds eerily like James Potter. His youth isn't a good excuse either. He came from a nice family who should've raised him well, and anyway, even the early teen years is old enough to know what mean looks like and why you shouldn't be mean.
Okay, but he reformed when he got older. Or did he? He eventually stopped bullying everyone... except Severus. His oldest, fiercest nemesis was the one he could never let go. It's like sealing little gaps at the edges of the window when there's a giant crack down the middle. Perhaps some would see it as reform that he stopped most of the bullying, but I think the fact that he couldn't let his deepest hatred go shows that down inside, some part of him never quite changed. (And if you say that Severus was mean right back, the Marauders started it first, and continued so relentlessly that they forced Severus to defend himself and kindled Severus' hatred and revenge. Both parties are at fault, but the Marauders were at fault first.)
As for Lily... she's pretty nice overall... right up until she refused to forgive Severus. My issue with Lily is a bit more subjective, because this kind of depends on how sensitive an individual is to name calling/slurs. Personally, I think that Severus lashed out in a moment of anger, frustration, and humiliation, and when the moment passed he was truly sorry about it. I think Lily should have been more gracious towards him, and not let years of friendship go down the drain because of a moment's foolishness.
Now, I was going to point out that Severus was already starting to lean towards the wrong side, and Lily could and should have done more to help him, but then I realized that perhaps Lily couldn't have helped him, because James and Co. were on the other side, and that alone would be enough to deter him. Which brings me back to James' bullying of Severus. If the Marauders had welcomed Severus with open arms, and everybody had become good friends, Severus might have started fighting with the right side from the beginning. But James pushed him away, and later Lily did too. Between the two of them, they might have been the biggest force in pushing Severus to join the Death Eaters.
@Jimbob Daddario directioner Herondale-Blackthorn Good to know HP Wiki mods support necroposting, lolololololol 🤣 I've always thought it didn't make sense to close up a conversation just because it's old. With search engines and search features and what not, people sometimes stumble upon old posts and want to say something about it. 🔥
@Broadway Blackthorn1234 Why couldn't you have asked me that question when I first posted, instead of six months later 😭 I remember that I did have a specific reason for visiting your post history (so no I wasn't being some stalker freak) but by this time I've long since forgotten what on earth I was doing there 😭😭
Well, I didn't see the whole video series, but I watched parts 1 and 12, so I did try... XP
I'll say that I appreciate the effort, at least. However, this format of presenting a few lines of dialogue, accented by a bunch of movie character pictures, naturally makes it rather cheesy. In part 1 especially, the music clashes with the dialogue so much that the whole thing is high cringe. (No offense if you liked the video; I'm just stating my opinion, and to each their own.) Part 12 had better music (there was Two Steps from Hell, so evidently the creator has some taste lol), but unfortunately the abrupt cuts in the music are quite jarring. I'm sorry I can't say that I liked this, but having read some really good Dramione fanfics, I think my standards are too high to compare to this.
For those here who are completely against Dramione, I'm not necessarily out to change your minds, because everyone has their own opinions, and for some, Dramione will never sit quite right. However, please know that there are Dramione fanworks out there that truly do have high-quality. I'm not sure how many reading this had a fair amount of experience with fanfiction, but there are fanfictions out there with extensive character development and captivating plotlines. The "cream of the crop" fanfictions are good enough to be publishable novels (and I know that are other fanfiction readers out there who would say the same). As someone who used to be completely baffled at why in the world anyone could even consider shipping Dramione.... please, don't make up your minds just from what you currently see; that's not all there is to the ship. :)
THG has a lot of darkness and death, but there's not really any cannibalism. The mention of cannibalism is really quite miniscule, it's like a sentence or two where a character recalls in passing a random person's attempt at it. The prequel book, TBOSAS, actually mentions someone witnessing cannibalism, but it's brief mention as well. Cannibalism is by no means a big (or even a medium :P) part of the series.
HP has much more world building in comparison to THG, and that's a big factor to me. Also, HP isn't as sad. The only reason why I can't call THG a tragedy is because they (you know who I mean if you know the story ;) ) both live and get married and are happy with each other.
^^^ I think you mean "if Draco died" XP
Yes, but not with that exclamation point. I would still grieve for Draco's death. The thing about Draco living is that he gets a second chance to live a different life, and we know that he actually seized that chance with both hands. If Draco died, we would lose the beauty of this redemption arc.
@MischiefMxnaged713 Two out of three perhaps, but not all of them - alphabetically James Potter should have been sorted after Peter.
@SoKeefe1576 I'm not sure that I would say he was "brave" in giving away the Potter's address. He was doing what he thought was best for his own interest at the time. He thought Voldemort was the way to live through and perhaps even profit during the war, so he sided with Voldemort and betrayed the Potters to please his master, hoping that things would go well for himself as a result.
I'm fighting for the OOTP and hold some valuable secrets. I get caught and locked into a secure place somewhere and Bellatrix is about to cast Crucio on me to get me to confess. That's probably gonna be my boggart.
