Honestly i love being a slytherin and if i wasn’t i’d be a ravenclaw but looking at the school housing system objectively who the HELL thought it was a good idea to sort children at ELEVEN years old in a house they would remain in for the next 7 years based on personalities they haven’t even fully developed yet. i’m sorry but at eleven i thought being brave was raising my hand in class when no one else would. Not to mention the fact that wizarding britain has taken it a step wayyyy too far like why the hell is the house you’re in still relevant years after you leave!!! The weird focus on the virtues and vices of being in a specific house is damaging and perpetuates stereotyping. all in all i love being a slytherin but if this was in reality…..gosh it’d be a disaster.

But even that still faces the same problem. what you value as a child differs greatly to you in just a couple years. at the end of seven years you could be a completely different person that is better suited to an entirey different house or even no house at all.

Yes but why would they? it’d make more sense to use a different incantation as a whole
True but it would make no sense for a japanese witch at Mahoutokoro to say a spell in latin especially seeing as the cultures are so removed from each other and the phonetics are going to be different. The Japanese language doesn’t use the L sound, so for example, the spell incantation lumos would be difficult to pronounce making it impractical to use.

One thing that’s always bothered me is that the Harry Potter books and movies are so British-centric, which to be fair why wouldn’t it be, it’s based on Britain and it’s a children’s book but to call Voldemort the most feared Dark Lord in the history (when let’s be honest Grindelwald was a lot more fearsome) or to call Albus Dumbledore the greatest wizard in the world has always rubbed me the wrong way.
I mean there’s a wholeeee magical world out there — for God’s sake Bill is in Egypt as a curse breaker working with ancient wards on the tombs of pharaohs and powerful hieroglyphic runes. Not to mention the fact that there must be SO many more awe-inducing mages, warlocks, sorceresses and enchanters out there. Every culture probably has their own Merlin (or Morgana) and it’s likely that Merlin probably had nothing on some other older sorceress from some civillisation in history.
Even calling Hogwarts the greatest wizarding school seems daft (let’s not get into all of the problems with Hogwarts and the influence Albus Dumbledore has had on it) when becoming an animagus, which is extremely difficult and impressive thing to do, is common place amongst students of Uagadou — who by the way use wandless magic like it’s nothing in lieu of wands.
I really wish there was more world building in the HP universe, that’s why i love fanfictions like ‘The Prince of Slytherin’ where the author fills in the gaps that Rowling left behind.
