In my opinion its probably because she wants to appear kind, forgiving, innocent and friendly (No, I didnt want to describe her like that 😭) while also appearing girlish.

Petunia had been a witch would she still have hated Lily because of Snape?

In My opinion she would dislike Snape yes but I think she would have been kinder to Lily because Snape was only part of the reason Petunia hated Lily but the bigger part of her hatred was due to Lily being the most extraordinary one in the family and Petunia not being accepted to become a witch in the first place.
