6 centuries after Hogwarts was founded, the headmaster at the time, Fytherley Undercliffe, decided a friendly musical competition called "The Battle O The Bards" would be a great boost for moral in the student body, and to encourage more artistic aspects of magic. In these 10 weeklong competitions, students from all houses, if they wished to participate, would split into bands and play songs or write their own. Some went in the classical direction, playing in string quartets to piano trios, and others played guitar and percussion.
The tradition still holds strong today, with wizards and witches alike competing for a special plaque on Hogwart's Wall of Music. And the competition this year is fierce.
