When you say... "I hope they don't push (anything different from the status quo) in our face."
You're endorsing the status quo and saying anything else is inappropriate or wrong.
When you say... "I'm not racist"
Deep down you already know that what you're about to say is racist.
When you say... "Blackwashing"
You're speaking from a place of privilege and ignorance.
They should cast the person who best inhabits the role, regardless of skin. If a trans actor embodies the role, fine. If a black actor nails the audition for Luna or Neville or Seamus (etc.), fine. It shouldn't matter. They don't need to be a carbon copy of the description, they need to ACT the part.
The status quo was set by patriarchal cis white men. Most of these men owned people while preaching equality. The absurd and hypocritical standards of such men continue to perpetuate society to this day, and leave anyone else in the category of "other", " minor", but the true reality is that category is LESS.
When you follow and/or endorse the status quo you say that centuries of oppression don't matter. You complain about change, but for those who have been in the "less" category for all that time, it's been too long. The "less" spent centuries placating their oppressors, then begging, then asking for fair treatment. Now, they are standing up demanding. Why? You ask. Because the oppressors have made it clear that it's the only way.
If what I said here has made people uncomfortable, don't worry. I'm leaving. I have no real interest in spending time with closed minds, who think they're being treated unfairly by people asking to be equally.
"After centuries of oppression, oppressors are lucky that everyone else is looking for equality.
Instead of revenge."
That are two sides of a dispute and you look decimated by the simple fact that the opposing party exists, probably wanting to ban and "cancel" them all for "hate speech". For the case that you think that I'm a religious fanatic, I'm not.
I look decimated?
I'm still not understanding what you're trying to say with regards to hate speech.
I didn't assume you're religious anything.
I recommend trying to be more clear in how you convey yourself.
But blackwashing and whitewashing are equally bad.
They really aren't.
By "normal people" in my reply, I mean people living their lives around you doing their own business. People who are not offended by the word "minor" or catching potentionally dangerous phrases. People not interested in LGBTQ+ movement, genders and so on. Some of them may even be L or G or B... I am not already a "normal person" since I participate in this discussion. It sounds vague, I know, but you can try to ask passer-bys and be suprised how many people don't think about it at all and it's not that they all are uneducated about it.
About the freedom of speech, hate speech is overrated. What do you think that happens when someone tells that some group shouldn't have rights? People will tell him or her it's nonsense, only a few as stupid as him or her will already agree beforehand. You should trust more in people.
There is so much in this response to incense.
The phrase "normal people" is offensive in so many ways. Even in terms of height - you have little people and average people, not normal. There is no such thing as normal.
Hate speech is overrated? - I can't even with this.
"You should trust more in people." And ending on a note of talking like you know me. Wow.
Have you looked at the world lately? There are large numbers of people intent of dragging everyone and any and all progress backwards. So, maybe you should take a good look around. A deeper look at the world around us all. It's pretty bleak out there.
Not looking all that great in here either.
Normal people who aren't bothering themselves with these questions
Who or what are "normal people"? I'm intensely curious.
^because everyone has freedom of speech and doesn't believe the same way and that's ok.
That's a dangerous stance.
Everyone doesn't believe women should have rights. Or black people, Asian, latin, etc.
Freedom of speech used as a guise for spreading hate needs to stop.
Why is lgbtq still a debate? It's2024
appeasing one part of the community when it adds nothing to the story.
It's not really one part of the community though. It's also not just about appeasing either. It's part of life.
The HP series starts at age 11, so as I've said before, it's really inappropriate to add any sort of sexual content to a kids series.
Is watching same sex individuals kiss, hold hands, stare longingly at one another any more sexual than when straight characters do this?
Short answer: no
I know you weren't. I was simply adding my view. It's confusing and odd to me, that was why I initially asked.
Okay, didn't realize it was a recap.
If it's about her last name I don't see where that would just offend Americans, but okay.
It would be cool.
I'm only bothered by book to screen changes when it disrupts the integrity of the story or characters. (Faramir taking the hobbits to his father, NO!). Luna suddenly being bi, pan, or ace - okay. Dean being into boys, okay. No big deal.
Well, something offensive for Americans might be below:
Why would this be offensive for Americans? Ruth Negga is fantastic! Agents of Shield, Priest.
And out of curiosity, why is this announcement being posted the day before month end?
March is women's history month (US anyway). Just seems late.
^ Okay, we get it.
Dobby was an innocent, who only ever wanted to help and take care of others.
Dobby is dancing!
That pretty much sums him for me.
Innocent Draco?
Ambitious little slytherin, no doubt
I started shipping them because of that too.
