Oedipus watches as Blake suddenly disappears with the wind. They blink, taken a back by how sudden it all was. After a few seconds, it hit them. “Oh, the potion.” They were about to actually do something about it, like report the situation to their mother, since she was one of the Goddesses that spend time communicating with her children (unlike the Olympians).
Just as they were about to take a step forward, their foot froze in mid-air. “Hey, how did you get there?” They looked down at the little deer that had re-appeared beside their legs. The animal looked up at them with pleading eyes. They reached down to brush their fingertips along its fur. Wearing an utterly confused expression on their face, their eyebrows furrowed and eyes narrowed.
“So you know but you did it anyway? You need to pay attention and think when you do these things. You don't understand how hurt you can get, what type of issues you can get yourself into if youre not thinking and handling magic!”
They kept on scolding for a few seconds, the little deer had given up on listening to them both and disappeared into the gap of the tree. When they finished, Oedipus looked down, then back at the tree, and could only find small footprints left by the tiny deer.
They let out a short-lived sigh, “Toying? With potions? And without reading the label, no less. Do you know how dangerous and reckless that is?” they said, a hint of concern creeping into their tone of voice.
The deer, who had decided to stick around, began rubbing its head against their shoes. It’s light fur getting dirty, but the little animal wouldn’t notice that, or care.
Yes ; D
“Hm. What were you trying to achieve with the potion in the first place?” Their eyes narrowed, trying to gauge at their intent with the potion and how they ended up making the mistake of using it on themselves without reading the label.
Oedipus stood up, the little deer then begin circling them and nibbling on their lower legs as if it wanted to be picked up.
Oedipus nodded, this wasn’t the first time they had heard this. “Okay, do you feel weird? Anything feel out of the ordinary?”
They turn around at the sound of the voice. “Oh?” Oedipus’s hand stays still, allowing the little brown deer to nibble on it. “Do you need help with anything?” They asked, they were used to asking that question as they were one of the oldest campers and a counselor. Many people came to them when they messed up a spell or had their powers out of control.
The little deer jumped over the gap between the large dark-oak tree and a smaller one, It stood up on its legs and tried to place its small arms on Oedipus’s knee.
(Bye bye I’ll talk to you later)
They cracked a smile, looking at the little deer then at Brooke, “Well, one of the animals my mother is associated with is the deer. Some demigods can talk to and even shape-shift into the animals sacred to their parent.” They spoke, matter-of-factly. They had seen that from observing the way other demigods had lived life.
They found it to be common in the outskirts of South America, where there are plenty of animals living in rainforests. Even they themselves had stepped foot in the Amazon, their head flooded with the memories of the scorching Brazilian heat and the vibrant flocking of birds toppled with rivers and waterfalls emerging from caves.
The tiny deer nuzzled into their palm, they pet it lightly.
They gasped slightly and let out an, “ah-“ at the unexpected firm grip, they let go of her hand and blinked. “Oh…a deer, huh?” They also looked around at the trees, a myriad of dark oak covering the woods, they were impossible to miss no matter where you turned.
From the largest tree in the middle, they saw the eyes of a little deer looking at them. Oedipus made their way over to the tree and crouched down, “Like this one?” Their elbows rested on their lower legs and brushed against their knees in the position they were in. They had a steady balance.
They reached forward to lightly pass their fingertips over the short, soft fur of the animal. It was a chestnut brown with white dots along its sides and back, with two ears standing up on the top of its head, and large black eyes.
Oedipus’s eyes narrowed further, before looking around the area and blinking slowly. Their vision needed a moment to settle, especially with the bright sun blinding their face. “Oh. Hello?” They looked her up and down, they’ve seen her before at camp but they’ve never really talked to her before.
“Im Oedipus.” They stood there for a second before reaching their hand out for a handshake. “What… brings you here?” They asked. Their dark brown hair, comparable to black, was stripped with purple and fell in-front of their face uncomfortably.
Oedipus was organizing their spell-books, blowing the dust off of the oldest one. That was the first gift they ever got from Hecate, they looked down at the book, their eyes glazed over with nostalgia, before setting it into a cabinet.
They heard footsteps coming from the outside, and they stopped at the noise. They turned around, their eyebrows knit together and their head slightly tilted to the left.
They opened the door to the cabin, the hot sun blinding their narrowed eyes. “Who goes there?”
