I am concerned about the quality (Attack on Barty Crouch Sr and Viktor Krum) of this newly created article in many areas, and I also don't think it is notable (so I have placed a deletion label on it and a comment in its talk page). The title is not in UK Enlgish (Sr instead of Senior or Snr), is overly long, lacks categories, images or an infobox. If this article does not warrant existence it needs significantly cleaning up, but I don't have the time to do it. I would appreciate if someone assessed this, kind regards --RedWizard98 (talk) 13:04, June 1, 2020 (UTC)

COG dates

When you watch COG today, could you keep your eyes open for the excact moths? I think it's mentioned how many months have passed since the first film, but I forgot how many.--Rodolphus (talk) 08:47, November 15, 2018 (UTC)

Speeding up the Credence discussion

New York Police Department Characters

I created two credited police officers, do you think you could rename them to find what their badges read, please? (Hobbiton777 (talk) 18:58, November 16, 2018 (UTC))

Minerva

Hey :) I would love your thoughts on the Minerva McGonagall timeline problem I have mentioned on her talk page. Trying to make sense of this! I wish Rowling would stop messing with established canon because it's going to cause a mess. Thank you. - Kates39 (talk) 19:00, November 16, 2018 (UTC)

Yes that was the problem I found. But beyond the scenes that take place with a young Leta at school when she was aged 13, and at the scenes at the school in 1927, no explanation is given beyond the script. I feel that someone will add this to her biography soon, so I'm getting worried about the fall-out.
But sorry for springing this on you when you haven't finished the book! I was thinking we should only mention her appearance in Behind the Scenes and treat it the same way of an error for now. This is too much of a kind of major crime against established canon for it to be treated as canon right now, even given our policy on Rowling's word. The Credence thing was far-fetched enough but this is basically impossible. Rowling certainly has some explaining to do, but I think she will have to change the name of the character and take McGonagall out of the story. - Kates39 (talk) 19:29, November 16, 2018 (UTC)

Duplicate images

File:Credence Barebone-1.png, File:Credence-Barebone-1.jpg, File:Credence-Barebone.jpg and File:Credence Barebone-.jpg need to be deleted. User:Flowertje keeps uploading duplicate images even after multiple warnings. File:Albus newt.jpg and File:Glass-Ceiling-French-Ministry-520x245.jpg needs to be deleted as well. Renamed images

I think File:GRt9Wfx0 o.jpeg and File:71O-8wS1srL-1024x610.jpg needs to be renamed. It doesn't say anything about the image and is confusing/complicated. I think the first one should say Chupacabra.jpeg or something. IlvermornyWizard (talk) 19:05, November 18, 2018 (UTC) IlvermornyWizard

Spelldown

Hi Ironyak,

Sorry for what happened with the Spelldown page. I went to see the film with my mother three days ago and though I'm a bit fluently in English (I'm Peruvian, from the South American country with best Quidditch team ;), sometimes I mistook phrases I heard, and I'm sure that I likely misjudged the pronunciation of the magazine's name, because J.K. has the Word of God in this series and if she wrote such name in the screenplay, she must have the reason, not me.

Wordmark and Background

Hello! I'm just letting you know that because of the release of Crimes of Grindelwald I have taken it upon myself to update the site's wordmark and background. This was mainly because the old wordmark had the block of white around the actual logo rather than the transparency that would have allowed it to blend in with the header color. I used the current font style for Crimes of Grindelwald to tie in with the film, and also used promotional material to update the background which was still using images from Fantastic Beasts. I have also updated the main page slider with more relevant articles for the new film.

Usually I look for input when making changes like this that affect the way the site looks in a significant way, but I felt that the update was needed due to the release of the new movie so I apologise if the change is sudden or jarring. In hindsight I should I have done this earlier and gotten input from the administration team so if you feel any changes need to be made, or the changes reverted, then please let me know. Hopefully though, the design rework is acceptable. Once the film is over, I will endeavour to create a new permanent wordmark that looks better in the header space. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 13:59, November 19, 2018 (UTC)

Grindelwald/Dumbledore cleanup?

Can you look at the abilities and skills sections of Dumbledore and Grindelwald when you get the time? It looks like someone have added what seems to me to be quite a bit of hyperbole there today, but I figured you'd be better suited to make a judgement call on that than me. ^^' Maester Martin (talk) 14:36, November 21, 2018 (UTC)

JKR has officially clarified that Dumbledore and Grindelwald were romantically involved. She stated it in a taped interview and the producers of COG discussed it in an article. Why are you not modifying this? Thank you. I would like to know your thoughts. You say she doesn’t mention it in that featurette, but she does. She states they had a sexual relationship, but that she was not going to focus on it. Please DM me if you don’t know what I am talking about. -MaryJaneRiceCup

RE: Discussion Post Deletion

Hi!

Look, I must admit my first reaction was “AHHHH Ironyak1 just messaged me!”

Anyway, back to the subject at hand.

I believe I deleted that before reading any of the post and thinking that they were just posting random stuff. After I went back and read it, I un-deleted it and locked it instead. Sorry if this wasn’t the right decision (I’m still quite new to this role).

Thanks for pointing this out and sorry for not replying earlier.

RE:COG & McGonagall

Generally I liked it; the mere mention of McGonagall had me very nearly screaming at the screen. I don't think it makes any sense, and the idea of a 30-year-long leave of absence sounds weird. McGonagall's chronology was pretty solid up to this point and the Hypable article, while an honourable attempt, reads like grasping at straws and is not entirely airtight itself:

  • It necessarily has Minerva not at Hogwarts in 1971 due to her "leave of absence", unlike what we see in the Prince's Tale in Deathly Hallows (her possible leave of absence is, at any rate, an assumption that is not in any way proven or even suggested anywhere)
  • It argues that the age difference between McGonagall and Elphinstone Urquart must not be significant, when in fact it is outright stated that it is: the source text refers to him as "her much older boss".
  • It makes Urquart's already long courtship of McGonagall since her early years at Hogwarts ridiculously long: instead of from 1956 to 1982, Urquart had to have proposed to McGonagall "every now and then" from 1910 to 1982, a grand total of 72 (!) years.

Perhaps more telling that the Hypable article is silly when concluding that we were at fault when it came to "[our] ability to research and analyze the canon that we have been given" is the fact that, apparently until a couple of months ago, McGonagall's Pottermore bio read that "She grew up in the Highlands of Scotland in the early twentieth century" — a sentence that has since been truncated.

I'd be tempted to ignore it as an inconsistency (normally, the most recent canon takes precedence, but this seems to change too much well-established facts), especially when one considers it was only a brief and inconsequential appearance. However, this might end up not being a sustainable position: who's to say McGonagall won't have a larger role in the upcoming films — and what to do then? --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 19:54, November 28, 2018 (UTC)

Is that true that in the films Pettigrew is slightly less cowardly than in the books?

In the third movie he admits his guilt much faster than in the book. After Harry stops him from harming Sirius and Lupin, Pettigrew smiles evilly, waves sarcastically goodbye and transforms. In the fourth movie he smiles evilly at Frank Bryce when he sees him. Later, when he kills Cedric Diggory, he does it ruthlessly and in cold blood. Also, in the fourth movie, he hardly shows any signs of cowardice or fear.Kintobor (talk) 17:24, December 1, 2018 (UTC)Kintobor

Motivations Survey

Hi Ironyak1
I’m doing a study about the motivations of Wikia contributors, and you’ve been contacted as you are listed as an active admin of this wiki. Would you be willing to fill out a survey to provide data for this study? Thanks for your consideration.

Sorry for the doublepost Ironyak, but it would be appreciated if you did fill out the survey. It should only take 5-10 minutes. If you'd rather not for specific reasons then can you get back to me on why you didn't want to fill it out? (and if possible I'll try and accommodate for your reasons by adjusting the survey). I'd like some kind of response because I'm doing this study for a class. Tower12346 03:04,5/12/2018

When to include "the" in names

Hi, sorry if this comes off silly. This probably has been asked before, but consider me belatedly confused and bear with me? xD TBH, I didn't really have a problem with Daily Prophet being named the way it is (sans the "the"), until I noticed the "the" is in fact printed on their newspaper; so I'm just wondering why the likes of The Quibbler, The New York Ghost, The Witch's Friend, The American Charmer and many others, get to have the "the" included in their article titles, and not the Daily Prophet. How is it determined?

Happy holidays! =D

--Sammm✦✧(talk) 19:32, December 31, 2018 (UTC)

Oh!! That actually makes a lot of sense! I'm a heavy audiobook listener, so somehow I completely forgot there's the option of checking how it's italicized in the books. I'm assuming, if The Witch's Friend and The American Charmer were later mentioned in future scripts and no longer just seen as film props, and happened to not have the "the" in italic, their article titles would thus be renamed? (Likelihood of this scenario is probably very slim lol, but I just want to make sure I'm understanding the concept correctly.)

Bot making errors.

Hello there, I am contacting you because your bot is removing articles from category from which they belong, which it keeps on doing. For some reason, your bot seems to believe an Azkaban escapee is a Death Eater, from which it obviously is not, so has purged several pages, such as Bellatrix and Dolohov, from which they need to belong. I have done this a few times now, and it is a bit annoying.  Your bot, thankfully is mostly getting things right, but this is its only issue, but it is really annoying me, as I like categories to be full and correct. This bot like all others is automated, so I don't know how it has been programmed. I don't mean to be a nag, it is just a small issue I have noticed. Said bot has also removed spelling repairs on Pansy Parkinson's page, claiming that "biasses" is British spelling when it is a mispelling. Thanks RedWizard98 (talk) 03:28, January 1, 2019 (UTC)

Trouble with spelling.

Hello again. Your bot still seems to incorrectly think that the word biased is spelt "biassed"; it is not spelt like this formally nor normally, under any form of the English language nor under any official English dictionary. Such word is even highlighted in red, meaning it is a spelling error under this wikia's language Please stop it doing this, it is annoying me. RedWizard98 (talk) 03:35, January 2, 2019 (UTC)

Bot and individual old spoiler headers

Hi, previously I was sort of under the impression that when only a single spoiler is present on an article, they'd be kept; however, I belatedly realized all articles previously including FBCasesSpoiler, were never reverted back, thus most of the applicable articles couldn't be easily found via the template.

Your bot was also performing somewhat weirdly, such as this edit, where it added Spoiler when it's already on the page. Is there a way to prevent this from happenning? --Sammm✦✧(talk) 10:28, January 3, 2019 (UTC)

Hmmm; I see. I think I was using them as visual cues, like obvious identifiers that one would immediately see and know an article would contain info outside the original novels. I think I came to that conclusion because, while only a few times, I've seen certain comments about how there're people who are die-hardly recognizing info from only books as absolute and everything beyond that are add-ons. I know that's not HPW's stance on the matter, and I know there's apparently other wikis limiting to book stuff, but for some reason I thought those header templates was HPW being nice, giving those certain people heads-up about what they might want to read with caution lol. Sorry about that! My brain's playing trick on myself again. xP
Just to be clear, if factoring the time of release of spoiler subject matter is the way to go, does that mean a bunch of old spoiler headers are in fact to be deleted?
And yes!! I think the problem with Harrypotter did at one point cross my mind, probably around the time I talked about using short codes in talk pages etc., but for some reason, by the time I finished typing that part, I forgot about mention the navbox. (Urghhhhh again, sorry about that.)
No worries; glad it is something that could be tweaked!
--Sammm✦✧(talk) 00:58, January 4, 2019 (UTC)
I see; time flies! For some reason I'm still under the impression that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is recent! lmao. Last question about the subject matter (hopefully lol); if Fantastic Beasts: Cases from the Wizarding World and Pottermore are updated with new contents, would applicable articles be allowed having the spoilers back? I mean, I'm at the end of FBC, and have no idea if they will ever have new stuff, but that last chapter, while having tone of taking a break, it doesn't sound to me to be a definite ending, but maybe that's just me. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 01:57, January 4, 2019 (UTC)
Continuing this section and User talk:Ironyak1/Archive 3#Re: Tying categories with templates, while what's happening now, can still be somewhat made sense of, is it possible for you to tie "Category:Articles with information from [...]" specifically to when the book field was selected? Because, take Marianne Chase for example, it makes little sense for her article (and TBH, all actor articles) to include those categories, that's what category:Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban actors and their likes are for. Like, with the inclusions of actor articles, CATs:Articles with information from [...] are now way less efficient to be used to filter topics by their sources, since a whole lot more is now categorized under them. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 22:05, March 25, 2019 (UTC)
Probably the last interaction I'd have before my flight in approximately 12hrs. Not urgent, but my memory sucks so might as well add it before I forget. I thought Marianne Chase (as mentioned above) was bad enough, but at least for her, she actually appeared in adaptations of those books; for Rochelle Douglas, imo, it's worse because she only appeared in COS, but she got the PS & POA tags as well, due to the mentioning of cast replacement history. This type of info at this point, really isn't at the same level articles actually containing info from respective books. Hope a more exclusive setup can be considered. I feel like it should be just relocating within the B= parameter instead of at the very end, but I'm not sure and this probably needs to be run first by you anyways, so yeah.

Categories

Unfortunately I have a few questions about categories; hopefully I won't be taking up too much of your time. The easier ones are, when I was filtering images of the Killing Curse, I saw that a lot of them are depicting Voldy vs Potter, so the boy's beloved Disarming Charm are also quite frequently visible, then there's some that lead to the Priori Incantatem phenomenon. This is a combo of a few super silly questions. I'm stumped already at the name of the category for the Disarming Charm; my instinct was (with a "the"), but as category:Images of Killing Curse does not have a "the", I'm just like... should I match it? And since renaming categories are just more hassle than its worth, I figured I'd just ask someone else's opinion on the matter. Then there's the Priori Incantatem part; should it just be ? And does the phenomenon still count as a spell? Like, I understand it to be a byproduct of a spell, just not sure if it itself is still counted as one as well. I'm thinking about this because I'm thinking about what image cat it'd be under, if that makes any sense. Def. overthinking lol.

--Sammm✦✧(talk) 01:57, January 4, 2019 (UTC)

A different question about image categories. When viewing category:Images by film, I feel like the file numbers are quite overwhelming, so I thought about if there's other ways to further filter the images in each films, other than concept art and promotional images. What I thought of was the "moving gif" type, something I have been meaning to ask: if there's way to quicker locate, but haven't voiced it because previously I've been thinking way too small in scale, like "Gifs of spells", or way too large, like "Gifs" (like "screenshots" or "covers".) I'm not saying this is the best solution, but theoretically, canon Gifs def. should mostly all come from films, with the minority being from other sources (games, PM etc.). So I'm wondering if it's okay to go for it, and if positive, what would the category name be. ("GIFs from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (film)‎" etc.?") --Sammm✦✧(talk) 11:04, January 6, 2019 (UTC)
Also add "Prop images from Harry Potter and the [...] (film)‎" into consideration. As I was browsing, I found a lot of those types being saddled with the promotional images category; while I kind of understand why, I also don't think they are exactly the same, a still or headshot is very different from the BTS package design of the props being used, which, I think most of the time are released/shared after the film they were from were out? Okay, it sounded less convincing when I type this out lol. But let me know what you think? =D --Sammm✦✧(talk) 23:46, January 6, 2019 (UTC)

Bot help again

Hi, chances are, the bot would again not be able to help, but I figured it's still worth the try. The following batch originally was only in Category:Promotional images from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (film), which isn't correct because they actually belong in Category:Concept art from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (film). I'm using w:c:dev:MassCategorization, and supposedly the "replace" function should work (that's how I swap out Category:Images of spells with Category:Images of Killing Curse when applicable), however, something odd is occurring, and the promo img cat wasn't recognized, I was able to add the concept cat, but also failed to remove the promo img. At first I thought it was like last time (the unidentified muggles thing), but I checked, there was no pipe in the way, so I'm stumped. This is a larger batch than last time, so if there's a way for not doing it manually, it'd be helpful. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 09:39, January 5, 2019 (UTC)

OMG, I guess Nth-time's the charm! Tried it again and it worked! No idea what happened yesterday. Next time I'll wait for a few more days to make sure it really wouldn't work before asking for help. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 11:04, January 6, 2019 (UTC)

If you can't delete this image, can you at least rename File:5D1C0D50-B335-437A-977A-1D5387CDB5F8.jpeg? As you can see, it is way too long and confusing. IlvermornyWizard (talk) 07:15, January 7, 2019 (UTC) IlvermornyWizard

It's great that you're doing this; this is a known problem with category sorting, another way it manifests itself is that blogs get categorised by user name, rather than by title as I think should happen. — evilquoll (talk) 17:18, January 13, 2019 (UTC)

Images

Hi there, Ironyak1! Hope all is well! I have two questions that are image related.

First one is to know the judgement on "when a image is needed". User:IlvermornyWizard has occasionally tag images to be deleted citing due to poor quality, even going as far as asking the uploaders to stop uploading those images that are "poor in quality" on their talk pages. Personally, I'm torn about this because the images that got this reaction definitely cannot be seen as high quality; however, as cases such as the Red Haired Young Witch, I see no harm in having a temporary image regardless of the quality; after all, all images can be replaced and updated if/when higher quality ones are available.

That being said, I'm wondering about the situation where "there really won't be higher quality ones available". Mainly like the Roberts family. Mind you, I don't think in this case it'll permanently stay that way (fingers crossed, hopefully GOF's illustrated editions will get us a better view of them), however, it currently is, and User:Yechezkelb went through the trouble of producing Mr. Roberts, Mrs. Roberts, and Roberts child, all altered from GOF chapter 09 BW. They are rotated and still really aren't recognizable. So in this case, I find myself guiltily wondering "if this is necessary", and felt being a little double standard since I clearly didn't have much issue like IlvermornyWizard is to low quality screenshots. Would like your opinion on the matter.

The second issue is about the possibility of having warning template(s) about image related actions. I've seen Admins repeatedly asking certain users to fill out Information, and if there is in fact a template they are substituting from, I'd like to know where the template is located at. I say this because to me, the uncategorized images are the wildcards when finding and sorting images; those images could actually be used on a great amount of pages and still couldn't be easily found. I feel that for Users who have been repeatedly warned to take care of their images and failed doing so, should eventually warrant a temporary block. I understand they are being very helpful in terms of providing images, but if they mass uploaded 100+ images without bothering to add info, that's 100+ images that someone else will have to cleanup after them, or not, as that's more like what's happening on this wiki since there's so many of those in this situation. On the long run, this action adds more workload to others, while raising the chance of having duplicates, since it's hard for people to know some images already exist here due to the lack of info and categorizations.

I'm asking because I don't want to overstep whatever boundary there is, and also because I'm just not good at keeping the tone neutral. I understand most people all are uploading images under good faith, but I think it's important to let them know that accumulating neglect leads to great inconvenience and hinderance. I feel that a warning template is needed (if there hasn't been one), but just don't know how to go about it without sounding super rude. Advise will be deeply appreciated. Thanks! --Sammm✦✧(talk) 18:40, January 26, 2019 (UTC)

Hi there! Thank you so much for the reply! Especially the first clarification! I'm so glad I asked so I won't have to let it bother me at the back of my brain; however, can you also check if this action is acceptable? I think it's because the tone was so absolute that it convinced me that I must have missed some rules and what was said was the truth; I mean, I feel intimidated about having to specifically get an admin's allowance for putting images in articles. I believe you told me it's something about being bold, or at most discussing the issue in a civilized matter, so I didn't think users should be treated like this? (Or I could be applying my previous advise wrongly, so let me know!)
Ahhh! I've never uploaded images from Special:Images, but I think the popup generates the same issue as uploading images when editing in source mode, as in people always have to click "More Options" to input stuff. I think when I joined Wikia, I basically assumed to properly handle images, one always have to go through two steps, (unless uploading via Special:Upload on HPW, which I don't lol). Like, I don't fault anyone for not having their uploads correctly loaded with info and categorization immediately after they uploaded them (on my end I can't tell their methods of uploads anyway, so I choose to not get upset over the possibility of them not filling out the template when they could have when using Special:Upload); it's if they left them alone, or worse, continue to do so when asked not to. I get what you are saying, users can be unaware of the matter, and this is unfortunate due to the current setup of the site, but I think, if they have been repeatedly warned and definitely made aware of the matter, that's a different issue.
The reason I wrote all that above, is because the bot idea sounds nice, but as you've mentioned, I personally think it'll be a miracle for first-timers to know about needing to do so; if the bot is able to identify first offense from continual offense, then I'm all for it. Otherwise, I can see people who just don't give a fig receiving a mass load of automatic warnings, or worse, for a first-timer to multi-upload and receive the same. To be honest, I think only 2 users that I know of can be safely put under the "multiple offenses" hat, and the silver lining is that they seemed to only be active when there's material from new production released, so there's a little breathing space between their mass-upload-without-info. To be clear, I think an automatic friendly reminder for first-timers is a splendid idea, but am unsure about automatically issuing warnings based on lacking info (can really see people receiving hundreds of warnings because of this), sorry if this sounds silly Orz.
I write long and I find people are seldom patient to read the entire content, I think you write very concise and to the point, so if it won't take up too much of your time, that will be great. Thanks so much for seeing this case; I don't think it's currently super urgent, just that if I'm still around by the time FB3 is doing promotional stuff, I'd hope there'd be the template available to be used on the likely offenders by then. xD
--Sammm✦✧(talk) 20:18, January 27, 2019 (UTC)
Hi there! Sorry for the delayed response! Maintaining Forum:Treatment for similar images has been really straining both my energy and my laptop endurance lol.
Anyhow, thanks so much for the explanation! Given the crux of the issue is about piracy, I can now know when to not feel weird when seeing warning against this type of images, if that makes any sense lol. Though it kind of makes me wonder about a somewhat related issue... I suppose, this type of situation would be hard to apply to images from book-medium? Like, taking pictures of the illustrated editions instead of scanning them, is still acceptable, correct? (I'm asking this because I def. get a feeling that some of those images are photographed) Because I'm pretty sure not all of the useful illustrations would happen to be digitized for preview purposes, and that leads to retrieving the images by other means, which, well, could be via taking pictures. Just checking this really is alright. xP
For files lacking Description, due to my bot-less status and my own preference to not have my own edit count dominated by the file namespace; (which kinda already has, unfortunately) I have not directly tackled the matter and am content to view Special:UncategorizedFiles daily to see if changes are made (have caught some duplicates through this alongside another Special page). That being said, I can't be certain, but I think the previous Content Mod had tried to resolve the issue, just that no one followed his actions. (that I know of anyways; sorry, was editing elsewhere during this period, I think) Or at least that's what I think what User:SuperSajuuk/FileCleanup is for. The placement of No file info and category:Images with no file information did help me see batch of images I'm sure I hadn't seen prior to viewing the category. While it is not going to solve the matter directly, I think, if your bot can be set to place No file info on the current files appearing on Special:UncategorizedFiles JUST ONCE, that may move the process faster.
I said just once, because I personally find the current Wikia/Fandom setup for category viewing quite loathsome lmao. Unlike Special:Images where you actually have page numbers you can jump back and forth to; the category, as far as I'm aware, only has the option of moving to see 200 items, without knowing how far you've gone unless you are on the first or last viewing. So populating a category with 1k+ files isn't ideal when it comes to finding files. It sucks when you accidentally forget this and use your browser's "show the previous page" function instead of correctly clicking the "(previous 200)" on the page, or that the page reload for some unknown reason and you'd be left with having to click through the countless "(next 200)" to get to wherever you were at prior to the refresh. (This is obviously spoken from personal unfortunate experience. If there's a way to avoid this viewing restriction, I'd really love to know. Images of the trio individually is giving me a headache, which is why while they are obviously the ones with the most dupes, they'd be the last to be fully worked on as it's just too hard for me lol)
In fact, if possible, view the 2nd page and set your Bot to place Category:Images of actors to get a bunch of them out of the way. While they most likely will still need description... Personally, to me, they are of lesser priority because they are also less likely of having dupes. Not saying they should be neglected, just saying imo they are less urgent to be sorted. Once the actor images are out from view, then place No file info on the (updated) current files appearing on Special:UncategorizedFiles that one time. Like I said, in the grand scheme of things, the change probably looks super minute, but that's currently the fastest way I can think of to help reveal uncategorized images.
Also feel that there may need to have a stricter image policy regarding to actors' images for other works. I'm seeing some good amount of lovely modeling photoshoots of some actresses, but hardly directly relevant towards the Wizarding World (franchise). If it's photoshoots of cast members together as themselves, that I can at least understand because it'd be somewhat unique and still related. Individual beauty shots... not so much. I thought about merging photoshoots from the same setting into just one file, but want to go over this with someone first before doing so. TBH, I have no idea if this is a regular occurrence, or just this one time that happened to take up a good amount of space at Special:UncategorizedFiles. The reason I haven't brought this up anywhere, is because like I said, I personally see actor images as low priority, but since a bunch of them are present where a bot may work through, I figured I'd just bring it up. I appreciate those pictures, and I think in a way it may be useful (I have no idea why when I Googled specifically "Daniel Radcliffe", I'm still getting a bunch of images of "Emma Watson" in the mix), so I don't believe they should just be regarded as "irrelevant" and straight out batch-deleted, but I equally don't believe they should be taking as much file spaces, hence the merging proposal as a way to still keep them. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 21:22, February 3, 2019 (UTC)
Hey there! Just wanted to let you know, apparently there are in fact warning templates for uploads! and ! They were previously under Category:Maintenance templates which consists of mostly header templates so I didn't notice them; only just came across one of them being used. Heads up, I'm unfortunately sending in a request for temporal block, as a User has been warned (not by myself) previously and is now uploading a bunch of GIFs that already have files here. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 22:18, February 7, 2019 (UTC)
Hey there! Just heads up; the script I used to mass protect just now failed to include the reason for it that I've typed (I have brought up this issue on Dev, hopefully it'd be resolved soon.) The reason I typed was "temporary protection; prepping for upcoming merge, preventing untimely image replacement."; just in case people decided to replace and replace on the wrong file, making the merge process more complicated. I felt it might look suspicious with no summary provided (I cringed when I saw the log), so figured I should at least let someone know why they were done. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 23:52, February 9, 2019 (UTC)
Hi, this seemed like a relative section so I'll just use it instead of making your TOC even longer. I don't believe I'm letting my RL effecting me about this matter (though I won't say there's no possibility for it, I just don't believe so). Anyways, User:Harry91 has been doing pretty great after their block was lifted, until, well, just now. They've literally just uploaded a bunch of duplicated images instead of simply replacing the existing ones, and there was just no way that they haven't seen the existing ones, since they were all on the page (Boggart) they targeted to "help out". If this continues, please issue another short-term block?
Also, how's the upload warning templates going? (I think the section for it is a little bit too long, so I'd just ask here) Like, in the future, are you okay with me just basically copying how you phrased it to place on User Talk pages? Hope all is well.
--Sammm✦✧(talk) 12:40, April 2, 2019 (UTC)
Please issue a temporary block. The User confirmed to knowingly upload duplicates of existing images separately as new files and "In my opinion my gifs are much better than old versions". I'll be frank, whether after 9 years of being a part of HPW and actually innocently not knowing how to replace images, is irrelevant to me at this point. They've replaced their own uploads before, so why they didn't do that to other uploads is beyond me, when they've clearly been told to not upload dupes. Again, I'm not asking for them to be permanently banned. They have some valuable contributions, but the message needs to sink in that what they do will have consequences, and other people shouldn't have to constantly remind them to take care of things they ought to remember. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 14:55, April 2, 2019 (UTC)

Eulalie Hicks page

Can Eulalie Hicks' page from the movie (artwork and the real page if there's enough seen in the background) to the Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and Ilvermorny Castle pages? Eulalie Hicks is a professor at Ilvermorny and was at Ilvermorny during their conservation so those images show more of Ilvermorny and what it looks like than we know already. Two things

I'm sorry that the header sounds like a joke but I can't find any other way to express it. Hello! I just wanted to say two things. One is that I've gathered three positive votes on my Chat Mod application, and if it's alright with you, I'd like to move on and conduct a vote.

My second point is a bit longer point, but it isn't the main point of this message.
It's about a certain user who has some troublesome behaviour in the live chat. She has vandalized my profile using a sockpuppet, and often says bothersome things in chat (i.e decorating a Christmas tree nude, and recently there have been some things concerning suicide). I've told her multiple times in chat to leave me alone, but she always ignores these attempts.
I've left a final message on her wall that I don't want anything to do with her anymore, but she seems like she's simply trolling, so I doubt she'll respect it, and her behaviour can seriously bother not only me, but other users as well.

I have camera shots of the chat to prove it, if that counts as evidence. The user in question is called User:Wikiatastic.
I'm reaching out to you because she as said, ignores my attempts to distance myself. If I respond, she will continue to pretend I'm not saying that I don't want to be in contact with her. If I ignore her, she will start talking about bothersome things as suicide.
I stay in the chat a lot, because I often wait for someone I know to join. Her presence is rather bothersome, and if she meets and causes trouble for a different user, she may cause damage. So I'd like to request some action taken against her.

Sorry for the long message and for bothering you! Have a good day! 민태준 - 슈가 (Inconvenience me here!) 0.61 Slytherin Crest Transparent 19:38, January 30, 2019 (UTC)

Legilimency

Hi ^_^ I wanted to check with someone before just editing to remove something that appears to be erroneous. I was doing a bit of research on legilimency and I was wondering where the possession part comes in? On the pottermore page, there isn't anything about possession, even though there is a small section that talks specifically about what Voldemort could do with it. ("But, of course, Legilimency was useful to Dark wizards too. Voldemort’s skill as a Legilimens enabled him to lure Harry to the Department of Mysteries; it helped him kill unsuspecting Muggle Frank Bryce in the Riddle House, and it probably led to the deaths of many others, given he used it to determine who was lying to him.") And, of course, it does mention the implanting of visions as well, but...not possession. My question is where is that part coming from - is there something that I'm missing? And if not, could you/could I remove the part about possession from the legilimency page?

Please check this out

Hey! I don't know if you've noticed this, but if not, could you please check it out? Us Mods (TDHRTT, Sapphire1912 as well as I) decided, by vote, that MagnificentMagnus should be demoted. He was given Moderator powers in order to better take care of the House Debates, nothing more, nothing less. He has frankly been lazy and irresponsible, you can read more of that on the talk page. Cheers, CosmicChronos Talk to me Contribs 17:17, February 5, 2019 (UTC)

Yeah, I think you missed a lot. First of all he was made a mod in order to run the House Debates, and ONLY the House Debates, it was a deal we had made an agreement on, he was to be a "Half-Mod", and that how he advertised himself. We only decided to give him powers so he could help us run the debates. We don't mind him dealing with trolls and such, but him doing it lazily (editing new users posts, leaving someone else to welcome them onto the wiki) is what really angers us. He did also announce that he would be resigning, before we informed that we voted to demote him, however he never acted on it. We were as kind and understanding as possible, whilst he has only acted hostile and threatening. I must insist that he was only given the Moderator rights to edit Users' posts to award them House Points instead, I for a long time did his job, but that wasn't enough, they had to stop. Only after us threatening to demote him he started working again. I don't understand how you can't clearly see his laziness and lack of responsibility. After he is demoted we are planning on making a new user "Half-Mod". Cheers, --CosmicChronos Talk to me Contribs 06:25, February 7, 2019 (UTC)
"Half-Mod" isn't a name that actually means something, its just easier than calling Magnus by "Director of Magical Sports and Games." That's just too long and unnecessary. Again, I don't think you understand, we aren't forcing anyone to do anything! He made it clear to us that he wanted to help out, so, since we needed help to reestablish the House Debates, we decided that we would propose to him to become a "Half-Mod" AKA only use his moderation powers to edit users' posts in order to include at the bottom the amount of House Points they gained from their posts, as well as editing the House Point Tracker. Nothing more, nothing else. Him being a Half-Mod was established well before he was even given moderation rights. I really don't see why this bothers you. The article by FANDOM is first and foremost a "guidance." However, it really isn't what we the mods strive for at all. We want to elevate the discussions from just another social media platform to a more interesting forum where people can discuss interesting topics. We have an Off-Topic Post for everyone who wishes to just talk about random stuff. "Under such guidance there is no need for management hierarchies or assigned tasks." But we decided to have assigned tasks for every mod, why? Because it's easier! So much easier! Everyone knows what they're supposed to do, and no one does too much or too little. I honestly don't understand why you keep talking about the "Fandom Guide to Improving Discussions"!!! It has no correlation to the problem. Magnus did not do what he PROMISED to do, instead did TOO LITTLE of what he was supposed to do, and when it came to stuff he WASN'T SUPPOSED TO DO (Whether FANDOM's Guide says so or not) he did it in HALF. Again, I have to reiterate, WE NEVER SAID HE WOULD HAVE THE FULL RESPONSIBILITIES OF A MODERATOR, HE WAS GIVEN MOD RIGHTS IN ORDER TO EDIT USERS' POSTS SO THAT HE COULD MANAGE THE HOUSE DEBATES. HE AGREED TO THIS BEFORE HE WAS MADE MODERATOR. HE EVEN SAID IT HIMSELF, NUMEROUS TIMES, HE IS ONLY A HALF-MOD/Director of Magical Sports and Games/or whatever. I'm sorry if I may seem angry, but I sure am, this whole situation is RIDICULOUS. He didn't do his job. Wouldn't your boss fire you if you didn't do what you were employed to do? I'm not saying I'm his boss, don't take me saying that as that, but rather we democratically voted that he should be demoted. Next time we should get the goddamn Mods to sign Legal Documents stating that we have every right to demote them if we so wish, this is such a huge hassle for ridiculously little.
P.S.: Here's the introduction from Magnus' own page on the wiki: "I've never been a Mod, so here I am. Director Maggie." Never been a mod. And here: "My occupation is Director of Magical Sports and Games on the Harry Potter Wiki Discussions" again, the same thing. Cheers, CosmicChronos Talk to me Contribs 15:31, February 8, 2019 (UTC)

Chat Improvements

Hello!
I got a suggestion of how to improve chat, and I've noticed that it's missing a lot. For one, I believe we need some guidelines. I have looked around the wiki, and I haven't found any. (If there are some guidelines, then let me know!) I don't think we need that many, either
For the guidelines (or to add to those available):

  1. No cursing. I think cursing should be forbidden, or at the least toned down, to keep language civil and friendly. I think it should be okay in PM, though, if both parties are okay with it.
  2. I also have another suggestion rather hard to put in a rule, but I've had experience with a user who would say things that are troublesome and can easily make others uncomfortable. It isn't easy to phrase this in a rule, as "uncomfortable" is different for everyone.
However I believe there should be a rule to avoid things that might be considered TMI by general public.
  3. I think we might need a ban policy, such as a certain number of kicks will result in a ban for a certain time.
My suggestion is that before being kicked, there is a warning. After three kicks, I'd say a 48 hour ban.
If you are okay with this policy, let me know! If you have any edits, recommendations or similar, please tell me and feel free to edit them into it.

I also believe we should link the guidelines into the welcome message. Perhaps something like "Welcome to the $1 chat! Be sure to read the ((guidelines|link to guidelines))"

Please let me know what you think! Thanks for reading, and have a good day! 민태준 - 슈가 (Inconvenience me here!) 0.61 Slytherin Crest Transparent 15:49, February 6, 2019 (UTC)

Would it make sense to combine Harry Potter Wiki:IRC and Harry Potter Wiki:Chat Policy? I know one's outside and one's inside chat, but they are both chat related and IRC seems to be phasing out? Just a thought (but I can see the logic of separating the two, too. So no worries lol)

Discussions Guidelines

I'd have to scroll for perhaps hours to find such a thread. We stopped doing community voted rules about a year or so ago. It was, in all honesty, far too chaotic, since then we have always decided the rules ourselves, in a way that we feel are fair for both us and the rest of the community. We have always had a feedback and suggestions thread, as well as a Ask A Mod A Question Thread where people can raise their concerns to us, so if they have a problem with our rules, they can always inform us about them. Cheers, CosmicChronos Talk to me Contribs 00:07, February 10, 2019 (UTC)

Just saw the new messages on your thread on the discussions; we have always had votes and "Mod application" threads, the only exception we made for this was for Magnus, an announcement about this would be useless. Cheers, CosmicChronos Talk to me Contribs 00:11, February 10, 2019 (UTC)

MediaWiki pages

Hi there, was not aware of MediaWiki:Chat-entry-point-guidelines until the change; upon seeing where it'd show up, do you think you can modify MediaWiki:Communitypage-help-us-grow slightly to also include minimal links to certain policies? Just figured it might be a good "in-your-face" reminder that there are policies on HPW and they are best be read.

Would like some input on MediaWiki talk:Licenses.

Would also like some input on MediaWiki:Community-to-do-list, which I brought up in the 2nd paragraph of Harry Potter Wiki talk:Harry Potter Wiki Projects#Is this still available? (it was brought up there because I have no idea where to discuss this, since Special:Community doesn't have a talk page (special and all lol)) Plus, I literally just located the MediaWiki page for generating the content. The easiest method is to directly place on MediaWiki:Community-to-do-list so it'll just display the exact same thing on Harry Potter Wiki:Community Portal. Granted, that page looks pretty dated, but certain links are still pointing users there, whereas Special:Community has no message from the community at all (demonstration of MediaWiki page usage is also provided on the HPW talk page above)

Not urgent, but just to get it out there. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 01:47, February 10, 2019 (UTC)

Short code list

Hi there! Like #MediaWiki pages, this is not exactly urgent, but I'm afraid that while I'm not ancient, my memory in recent years really isn't doing so well, so I'd like to get it out before I forget about it lol.

I know when I first brought this up during the last 2 replies at Forum:Condensed spoiler notice, it could seem somewhat off topic, but it stems from the feeling that the instruction on Spoiler doesn't really demonstrate how adaptable the new template is; during the discussion, the selling point for me was that it's literally just using the already existing short codes templates, so as long as you know what they are, there you go. Problem is, it's looking like a lot of people don't know what short codes are out there, or what they stood for, which was why I asked if there's a list.

Through sheer dumb luck, I found User:Ironyak1/Link Template List, and that's basically exactly what I'm looking for, so I'm wondering if it's acceptable to just use the content you compiled and paste it in the description of Category:Appearance templates, (though TBH, I kind of wish there's like a separate "Category:Source templates" or something, because I do think the usage of the likes of PS and are somewhat different.) so that, at least, people who aren't familiar with short codes on HPW, won't have to click into individual templates to check what is what.

(Through your User page, I found Forum:Link Templates. Briefly debated to leave this message there, but I feel like the thread was kind of about the functionality of the template, so decided against it. If you prefer to relocate there to continue the discussion, let me know!)

As User:Ironyak1/Link Template List is your User subpage, I consider it pretentious and rude were I to just use it without getting permission, and who knows, perhaps there's some updated version of this I haven't found. I can't say for other people just that I personally have not memorized all variants of short codes on HPW; idk how dated the page is, but I feel that that's at least a huge head start of a list, brilliant for people to do quick look ups. Would appreciate if the info you compiled can be more easily accessible. (idk about other people, but I have trouble locating my own User subpages, let alone others' lol)

(P.S.: The reason why I'm like asking some random questions instead of doing the usual image filter today, was because of the script problem I briefly mentioned in chat. I'm specifying what to look at in my Dev inquiry base on the position they currently appear on my log, so if things come after the batch I referred to, it'd be harder to describe. Hopefully it'll be looked into soon.)

Thanks for reading this, as usual! =D --Sammm✦✧(talk) 23:52, February 10, 2019 (UTC)

Oh holy wow. Thanks for the super fast response, I'll get to copy & pasting then. As for the separation, I feel like while type PS and type are both used in the "Appearances" section of articles (I'm assuming that's how the category got its name... D; ), the latter type is more about showing the "status" of how the "source" (former type) qualified to be listed in said section; at first, I didn't feel like it was too much a hassle, cuz I mistakenly assumed that all-caps ones were abbreviations, as in all for "sources", then I encountered AR and FWC that made me feel "well, I wish they weren't mixed together then lol". (Granted I think those two above are the only one like this, so it wasn't a huge issue)
A quick (and likely not super accurate) count, there're at least 36 templates (out of the 102 under the category, not counting your User subpages) that can safely said to not be type "source", perhaps the number is too small to be significant enough for separation. (I'm not pushing for this happen anytime soon, if at all; just that, I know if I don't type it down, I'm not going to remember and will have to recount them lol, might as well document it.) Thanks again for the reply! --Sammm✦✧(talk) 00:41, February 11, 2019 (UTC)

Discussion board ban issue

~Hi my current account is MadEye88 I've been banned multiple times from fandom because of my angry behaviour because I take harry potter a bit more seriously but I'm really sorry about that, now I'm not getting angry anymore I'm avoiding all of those posts that can lead me to my angry behaviour.i know I shouldn't have said or done the things i did in past as to say in my previous accounts but I promise I won't repeat my mistake please give me another chance. This is a legendary community and I want to be a part of this. Harry Potter is more than just books for me. It's my way of living. JKR taught me to believe in life again when I was so close to end it. Whenever I'm happy, sad or feeling nothing at all I read Harry Potter it takes my mind off things. Harry Potter is my emotion. I hope you understand and all I'm asking is just let me stay give me just one more chance I won't repeat my mistakes. Again I'm really really really sorry. All I'm asking is give me a last chance and I promise I won't blow up this time. I will be so grateful if you let me stay. Understanding my angry behaviour is easy just think of me as a Harry Potter fan who refuses to accept anything except what's already written in the books so I get angry when I see people asking stupid questions like someone asked a few days ago"why Voldemort tried to kill harry?" But it won't happen again until now I was just trying to keep my angre under control but now I promise I will never do that again. Again I'm sorry

Re: Madeye47

Hey Ironyak1! It's going to take me a while more time for me to reopen the case against Madeye47 (partly because I can't access their deleted posts), but I believe it went a little like this: https://harrypotter.fandom.com/d/p/3343172654596224816

Quite self-explanatory, really. I think it was Gryffinwhore or TwistTheDemon or someone along those lines that Madeye47 was teaming up with to "bully" another user. Or it could have been that Madeye47 was underage - we've been finding a bit of that recently.

On the other hand, on account of my terrible memory, it could also have been that Madeye47 had made multiple accounts first (like what happened with the "Sapphire1935" puppet), which he then got banned for, while I listed the wrong reason.

I'll come back to you once I recover something. Cheers!

P.S. I'm not resigning. -- MagnificentMagnus   Talk   Contribs 06:18, February 12, 2019 (UTC)

Re: Upload notices

Hi there! What I like the most about your draft is that it included the syntax, (I sometimes have the impression that people simply didn't bother to even check Information as they were told) providing it makes it harder to miss, short of them missing the message altogether.

As mentioned in the 2nd to the last response at #Images, I previously was unaware of the existence of Upload and Upload2; I think your draft is very straightforward, excluding the factor of having people to check the template out themselves, (probably lost most people on that step, sighs) however, I'm wondering if there's a need to let people know why it's important for them to fill out Information. Your draft told them not to do so (which is essential a crucial part of the message lol) but the existing warnings included the reason for it: "In future, please be sure to fill out the information template that is provided on the upload page, in particular citing the source from which the image comes from, and adding categories. This is to help keep images organised and catalogued, and to provide clear sourcing for all uploads."

I said "I'm wondering", because at first, I thought the existing warning was informative and appreciated it, but then I wasn't sure if the wordyness of it all just prevented people from actually reading the stuff lol. IDK. (that said, I understand at the end of the day, if people choose to not read it, how informative the message was would then be irrelevant xP) --Sammm✦✧(talk) 00:33, February 13, 2019 (UTC)

Oh, if you want to test out more on the uploading warning, perhaps look into User:Hobbiton777. I'm on the fence because they are helping creating a lot of actor articles, which is helpful, but alongside they uploaded a bunch of actor images without providing info. The image part was one thing, and because the user hardly is the first offender, with them actually doing a lot of work, I wasn't really sure how to go about it. (though I did bring it up this one time that so far does not seem to make a difference)
I took notice of this user because the info on those actor pages sometimes aren't correct, especially when the majority are stated as "British" actor/actresses; occasionally, through further digging, I've found some that aren't and have corrected them. There's also another concern raised and also not seeing change of treatment as of now. I'm asking about it because I feel like "they aren't required to do a complete job", but when it's en mass, that's a lot to fix... Am just wondering if there's a way to approach this, short of resigned and cleaning up after, much like the image problem. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 00:33, February 13, 2019 (UTC)
Sorry for the delayed response... As I feared, the rate-limit is making merges more tiresome than it would have been =/ Anyhow, I have not tried this out myself, (because I don't have issues with going to file namespace after uploading images) (also because it appears to be a relatively new script) but do you think w:c:dev:UploadInPage has the potential to solve the problem? Configurations such as "If enabled, the user has to select a license before uploading any file into the wiki" and "If enabled, the "More options" section uploading a file in oasis' WikiaMiniUpload modal is displayed by default" sounds super promising to me. I had no idea the lo license problem went bad enough for Staff's attention, sounds like a nightmare. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 02:53, February 14, 2019 (UTC)
BTW, I'm like super sorry for suggesting the script... I'm testing it out myself... and I have no idea where it's supposed to appear... like how to accesses it. Does it work for you? IDK if global.js just isn't letting my local accounts getting the script (which is somewhat doubtful...) sighs. Hope it's at least working for you. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 04:32, February 14, 2019 (UTC)
Nope, it doesn't work for me... Orz Have bypassed my browser cache several times, (pretty much always the first thing I do after updating global.js) really not sure what's going on because nothing resembled the image on the dev page showed up (I was expecting a modal looking like the image to pop up?) Instead, I'm still getting the same old modal that doesn't have "More options" shown as default (as promised.) Just tried it on my test wiki and I uploaded without selecting license with nothing prompting me to do otherwise or prevent the file from uploading. Will wait for a few days to worry about it. lol
Meanwhile, also saw w:c:dev:PreloadFileDescription; a little confused because HPW seemed to have this (on Special:Upload but not on Special:MultipleUpload?) but I have no idea where or how it was installed. But yeah, there's this line:
  • PFD_requireLicense – when set to true script will disable file upload until proper (non-empty) license is specified. Example:
PFD_requireLicense = true;
That also look promising, though again, no idea if it'll actually work. =/ --Sammm✦✧(talk) 05:34, February 14, 2019 (UTC)

┌──────┘

LOL and for some reason I "found" what I couldn't find above afterwards, I guess some sleep helps xP.

/* Substitute Template:Information into upload page */
$(document).ready(function() {

	if (wgPageName != 'Special:Upload') {
		return;
	}

	$('#wpUploadDescription').text("==Summary==\r\n");

});

Not sure if anyone uses Special:MultipleUpload here, but I suppose making it

if (wgPageName != 'Special:Upload', 'Special:MultipleUpload')

or something would make more sense (though I'm not sure if I'm even phrasing it correctly, so don't take my word for it.)

Also, since there's now at least two imported scripts, (that I was able to quickly see, in any case) this part:

// AjaxRC
window.ajaxPages = ["Special:WikiActivity","Special:Log","Special:RecentChanges"];
window.ajaxIndicator = 'https://images.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100609110347/software/images/a/a9/Indicator.gif';
window.AjaxRCRefreshText = 'Auto Refresh';
window.AjaxRCRefreshHoverText = 'Silently refreshes the contents of this page every 60 seconds without requiring a full reload';

importScriptPage("MediaWiki:AjaxRC/code.js", "dev");

/**** UploadInFile ****/
window.needsLicense = true;
ImportArticles({
    type: 'script',
    articles: [
        'u:dev:MediaWiki:UploadInPage/code.js',
    ]
});

is, to my knowledge, advised to be formed as below:

// AjaxRC
window.ajaxPages = ["Special:WikiActivity","Special:Log","Special:RecentChanges"];
window.ajaxIndicator = 'https://images.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100609110347/software/images/a/a9/Indicator.gif';
window.AjaxRCRefreshText = 'Auto Refresh';
window.AjaxRCRefreshHoverText = 'Silently refreshes the contents of this page every 60 seconds without requiring a full reload';

// UploadInFile
window.needsLicense = true;

ImportArticles({
    type: 'script',
    articles: [
        'u:dev:MediaWiki:AjaxRC/code.js',
        'u:dev:MediaWiki:UploadInPage/code.js',
    ]
});

Reason as explained in w:c:dev:Installation#JavaScript imports on Fandom. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 20:13, February 14, 2019 (UTC)

In case the above was missed (though not urgent)
BTW, a little confused, what would the license of personal images, like actual photos of the Users themselves, be? The wording of fairuse seems irrelevant as those images wouldn't be placed in articles? Or do they count as such anyways? --Sammm✦✧(talk) 22:56, February 15, 2019 (UTC)

Past-tense

I can appreciate past-tense for things like biographies and battles and historical events, but when you read the sentence "Sandwiches WERE a type of food" that's when you know things are getting out of hand. The problem also is that the forum was so poorly worded, and it really only makes sense when talking about character biographies or historical events. I didn't see any discussion of things like spells, potions, creatures, still existing locations, etc. I think that every article being required to be in the past-tense is plain silly. This is not a galaxy far far away. In-universe, magic things are still happening. JK Rowling herself writes in the present tense on Pottermore. I stand by what I said, and will continue to be adamant about that. Oerk (talk) 22:14, February 14, 2019 (UTC)

In any case, it's a policy that is thankfully seldolm enforced, and for good reason: because it's terrible. Just because it is a policy does not mean it is a good approach to have. Quite the opposite in fact. Luckily, many prominent articles are written in present-tense, as they ought to, despite this wiki's policy. That's because the people who wrote them actually had a mind to have them make sense when read. I'm not going to link those articles, for fear of risking a pointless change of tense to past. I'm just glad that a majority of pages were written with some sense, rather than brainlessly following an outlandish policy. Maybe one day, this wiki stop having such a convoluted tense policy, where it does not treat every ordinary thing as though it was some ancient, historic thing that is long gone, when it so obviously isn't. But based on the mere fact that this policy has existed for so long, and plagued this wiki for that whole time unquestioningly, I seriously doubt it. Oerk (talk) 00:07, February 15, 2019 (UTC)

Potential fandom/Junk writing

Hello Ironyak1, whilst going about editing today I happened to notice this newly created and unexplaine article created by a new user, calledSkovboskolen School of Thots. Given the fact this article has been given no explanation to as why it has been created and it looks very much like to me it could be fandom or simply junk writing. The existence of such a school is not noted in any canon source I am aware of, and I also researched the word "thot"; it is an informal and derogatory noun which is used to describe a promiscious woman. If this article is indeed dishonest, it should definitely be removed, as using such language is rather innappropriate, I would think. Thanks RedWizard98 (talk) 13:02, February 15, 2019 (UTC).

Reporting fanon/vandalism

Hello again Ironyak1, with regards to this page regarding the disintegration curse, this supposed new editor, called Molly Weasley 54, is evidently writing fanon on this article regarding its history and creation, none of which is proven in any canon source. This editor now thinks it is okay to expletively proclaim that they will curse me, should I undo their edit agian. As I am not an admin, I cannot be dealing with these kinds of annoying editors. Thanks RedWizard98 (talk) 14:40, February 16, 2019 (UTC).

The tasks I wish to use it for,

Category:Images_of_Bartemius_Crouch_Snr has to be moved to Category:Images of Bartemius Crouch Sr, an act your bot did a while ago. I wish to move it back there.

Also as for Category:Images of Pottermore, I intend to empty it, as the images in the category are already in Category:Images from Pottermore.

Re:Locking Posts

Firstly, I am so sorry for not responding to your previous messages on my talk page - I just saw them right now.

Also, i did lock that post (alongwith another of the same user, as far as I remember), because the user asked a question whose answer could have easily been searched up on the wiki, e.g, 'What is the Summoning Charm' would have been easily answered when searched up, and the wiki article regarding 'Accio' would have popped up. I tend to lock posts whose answers have already been given in the wiki, after either seeing a person redirect the OP to the wiki article, or linking the article myself. If you feel I've done something wrong, kindly let me know, and I'll make sure not to repeat the same mistake again. Hey there Ironyak1! As I am in the Community Council, I am interested in gathering feedback on what makes Fandom so special as a company.  You are being contacted today with some survey questions on what you think makes Fandom a great place. This is research for a blog I am making on the Community Central Wiki.  Here they are:

1. How do you view Fandom as a company? Do you feel that they support you enough as an administrator?

2. What kind of technical updates would you like to see in the future? What features would make your job easier?

3. What feedback do you have on the recent Discussions updates? Do you think they were helpful, not worth the time?

Thank you for taking time to answer these questions!

Hello Ironyak1,

I would like to say sorry for our rough start. I didn’t understand when I was editing, that my edits were speculation. I can’t wait for the future and look forward to contributing confirmed facts about our amazing universe. It may take me a while, but I will soon get fully used to this community. Is there anywhere I can put some of my posts? I don’t know, but I would assume that the behind the scenes section would be where you would put possible facts. Ex. This background character might be Professor Kettleburn or Ex: This necklace could be her Time-Turner. Do you see what I mean? Sorry for bothering you.

How to find new fantasy franchises to get into

Hello Ironyak1,

I am currently doing a study on the challenges fantasy fans face in finding the next fantasy franchise they would like to get into and where to get access to that content.

Given your role as an admin for the Harry Potter wiki, I would be keen to interview you to get your thought on this. What would be the best way to do this and would you have some availability to connect on this over the coming weeks?

Best,

Marcus Flint

Hey Ironyak, hope your keeping okay. I was going through Inter-House Quidditch players and I saw that Marcus Flint's page still states that he was a sixth-year in the 1991–1992 school year. Rowling had said when her error was pointed out in an interview nineteen years ago (given that he still there when he should have graduated) that he had to repeat a year, but then she had the mistake corrected in a later edition of the book and it now says he was a fifth-year in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Another user has pointed out that the latest edition should take precedence and the canon policy says "the newest source is to be taken as the "most" canon" and that in this case, is the latest and present version of her book. Thought I would ask before changing it because it's rooted in the fandom that he had to repeat a year even though that was later changed. - Kates39 (talk) 20:00, February 26, 2019 (UTC)

Thanks, it's good to be back! I have made the amendment to Marcus Flint's page. Feel free to look at my explanation in the reference and make any adjustment you think needs to be made. I'm trying to find a source for Flint's appearance too but other than the fact that he was troll-like, the books do not say he had grey eyes, black hair and large teeth (two of them were probably from the films only). Is there a part of the policy that you know of that gives the guidelines for the appearance section? I couldn't find any specific mention of it. I was under the impression it was book-only sources for appearance, but I don't know why. - Kates39 (talk) 14:05, February 27, 2019 (UTC)

Editing protected template Community Links

Hi Ironyak,

I would like to edit the protected template Community Links to add a link to the Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality Wiki in the "Other Wiki" section. Would it be possible for you to do the change, if you think it is appropriate?

The naming of 2 to-be-created image categories

Hi, quick questions. (though lengthy as usual D;)

  1. I won't bore you with the details; suffice to say I was misled by a certain statement and it led to the making of a series of categorization errors; this can be easily rectified, however, I'm having silly troubles again with the naming of a new required category. It is intended for images by Atomhawk Design Ltd, which would be a subcategory under Category:Images by artist. I think at a glance people can be like "What's the problem? Just name it Category:Images by Atomhawk Design Ltd!", but my concern (likely just overthinking) is the "Ltd" part; I mean, I'm sure it's part of the official name, but I've seen the studio being mostly referred to as simply Atomhawk Design; so in that case idk if "Category:Images by Atomhawk Design" would be better. Please let me know your thoughts on the matter (if either one is okay, would like a preference so the correction needed can move forward)
  2. Upon viewing Category:Images of spells, while currently it isn't exactly overpopulated (that said, sadly, I have a suspicion that this is simply due to a lot of images of spells aren't being categorized in it as they should), I think a subcategory for the likes of Accio, Aguamenti, Alohomora Hogwarts Mystery & Aparecium, could be useful; once again I'm halted due to the naming of this new CAT. In my head, I somehow always call those "wand movements" (which isn't technically correct?) whereas Spell infobox has the field as "hand movement". I thought about going with that, however, I'm not sure the name "Category:Images of hand movements" is clear enough that people immediately understand what it is? (Or it could be just me, so I needed to know) I tried to think of ways to clarify it's casting related, like "Category:Images of spell hand movements", "Category:Images of hand movements of spells" (more mouthful and not necessarily less confusing Dx), or "Category:Images of casting hand movements", and while atm I think the last one s*cks less, I'm not sure if it'd be too long for a category name. I figured I'd just ask for help to see if there's some easier way to describe this type of images.

Thanks! --Sammm✦✧(talk) 23:04, March 4, 2019 (UTC)

Noted! Will slowly proceed (so I don't populate RC.) Thanks!! --Sammm✦✧(talk) 20:47, March 5, 2019 (UTC)
Just keeping you posted, the two CATs have been created, and I'm gradually sorting files to Category:Images of wand gestures.
On a different note; I'm sorry to have probably acted stalker-ish, but I'm pretty stressed with having to move to another country with the packing needed, so perhaps my tolerance is considerably lower than usual. If you could check Twitter, that'd be nice. Also have a belated question for a JKR's Tweet at Talk:Nicolas Flamel#Nicolas Flamels death, not urgent since the Tweet was 2-years-old lol; I honestly forgot all about it until I saw the deceased status being added (back?) today.

Re:article links to discussion

Hello there, Thanks for linking my post to the wiki page. Yes I agree, the link isn't visible via the mentioned platforms but *spoiler alert* FANDOM has a deep integration planned that will make this work in the best possible way, and that it is coming soon. Now I will not say much coz I might end up breaking an NDA but optimistically you may or may not see this feature up and running in a month or so. Hopefully that helps. FYI thanks again for linking my post to Dumbledore's article. He is one of my "fiction world idols". Also if you need me to write the above points on the respected forum talk then let me know and I will put it down as a record. Reverb frost (talk) 01:18, March 5, 2019 (UTC)

Re: Potion ingredient infobox

Hi there. I created the Ingredient infobox (formerly Potion ingredient infobox) to organize the plethora of articles on potion ingredients that tend to follow patterns. Here's how I apply the infobox for articles:

  • Is the object ONLY a potion ingredient? If so, then use.
  • Is the object a potion ingredient, but also used in non-foodstuffs? (e.g. bezoars, unicorn hair) Then use.
  • Is the object consumed or used like a potion but not explicitly a potion? (e.g. Re'em blood) Then use.
  • Is the object a plant? Don't use
  • Is the object an animal? Don't use
  • Is the object DERIVED from a plant or animal? Then use.
  • Is the object used in foodstuffs, and isn't a plant or animal? I suppose it depends on whether or not it is used primarily in foodstuffs. If there are 5 potion articles that use, say for example, onion juice, but only 1 foodstuff article that uses onion juice, then I would use the ingredient infobox. If there are 5 foodstuff articles that used onion juice, but only 1 potion article that uses onion juice, I would use the food infobox.

Hope this helps!

Category questions

Hi, User:MechQueste asked my opinion about 2 spell-related subcategories, and I replied my personal thoughts of them here, but would also like to know what you think, as upon browsing, I think the structure of Category:Spells is a tad bit weird.

The gist is whether or not Category:Spells with Modifiers and Category:Cleaning spells were necessary. I personally thought both of them are fine, however, I also have issues with both. Am wondering if it's okay to rename "Spells with Modifiers" to "Spells with incantations consisting modifiers" (more mouthful, but a more accurate description) and to categorize Cleaning spells (and Healing spells) under Category:Spell types instead of just right under Category:Spells. My 2 questions are however base on those 2 subcategories being indeed deemed to be kept, so that's still the more pressing matter. That said, I'm not even sure if Category:Spell types was what I'm looking for; I think I'm going for how Category:Individuals can be searched by different ways. If applying the same structure, the hypothetical subCAT would be called something like "Category:Spells by usage" or by purpose, or by function... IDK, I just think cleaning and healing are more specific than most of what's currently under Category:Spell types.

I'm also slightly concerned about Category:Spells being attached to Spell infobox, something I'm actually not sure of being a good idea and just haven't had the time to ask the question. Figured to take this opportunity to inquire. I'm under the impression that usually it's preferred to only contain the most specific CAT, and not the general CAT? So say, if it's a healing spell, hence categorized as Healing spells, which is under Spells, it obviously is a spell, therefore shouldn't also need to be categorized under Spells. Am wondering if there's a reason that the general CAT is attached to the infobox, and if not, if it's okay to remove it.

--Sammm✦✧(talk) 20:47, March 5, 2019 (UTC)

I'm embarrassed to say, I haven't actually had time to read the entire content of Modifier; I scrolled through it and had a vague idea with my own interpretation of what it was about. After reading your reply, I went back to check the article and realized that it was as you said and not as I thought, containing what looks like fan theorizations. I was seeing it as WP favicon Grammatical modifier on Wikipedia, the structural part and not suggesting which of the component is the base and which the modifier, nor was I particularly supporting the hypothesis on the ones with modifiers originated from the ones without. I suck at explaining; for example, even if "Protego" is not already known to exists, using what I previously thought the CAT was for, I'd still categorize "Protego Diabolica" as "Spells with incantations consisting modifiers"; it's not about suggesting "Protego Diabolica" being a modified version of "Protego" (or "Diabolica" lol), but the fact that the spell on its own, has the incantation that grammatically contained a modifier. I think, by my own lol interpretation, I'd see "Wingardium Leviosa" fitting as well, basically just any spell with more than one word. Oops. xP My bad.
Can I assume the creation of a CAT for "Spells with incantations consisting -fors suffix" would also be advised against? Since, while people have observed the considerably notable amount spells with incantations ending with "fors", there's no canon documenting the matter?
--Sammm✦✧(talk) 02:17, March 8, 2019 (UTC)
Unrelated to the above but still questions about categories, so I figured I'd still keep it posted together.
As I went through User:DinosaursRoar's mass categorization edits, aside from ones that are probably done due to unfamiliar with the whole category tree concept (I don't blame them), I noticed they did pick up something that could be considered missing; apparently a lot of the animals that are mostly known due to being a possible Patronus form, would lack a category that'd state what kind of creature it is, aside from having Category:Patronus forms. I know corporal Patronus forms take forms of creatures, so logically having Category:Patronus forms would automatically mean said creature, is well, a creature, hence not needing the creature category. That said, I'm like looking at Category:Mammals and wondering if something else could be done. First of all, I have to admit, I learned the classifications of animals more than a decade ago, in another language, no less, so I can't say I'm an expert for this, so if the question is silly, hope you won't judge me too harshly lol. The first question is, are "Cats" and "Dogs" the politically(?) correct terms to describe their relatives? I thought about "Felines" and "Canines" but apparently those aren't official names to refer those groups of animals, either? I'm asking, because I think having Lynx, Tiger, Leopard etc. under Category:Cats is a tad bit misleading, and just wonder if a subCAT above it to differentiate the relatives of cats and the actual cats would be better.
Also wondered if a subCAT for Ungulates (hooved animals... had to look it up even though I did take animal anatomy in English in recent years... my memory really is bad Dx) is okay. I don't think it needs to go as thorough as odd-toed ungulates and even-toed ungulates at the moment, but I do think it'd be a nice clarification than just simply be under "Mammals".
Would like to know what you think. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 01:32, March 17, 2019 (UTC)

Message Walls

Has this wiki ever considered adopting the usage of Message Walls instead of Talk Pages? MechQueste talk 21:55, March 7, 2019 (UTC)

reply to your message on my talk pages, I don't think Discussions was meant to replace message walls. The message walls replace your own talk pages. For example, this is my message wall, and this is my archived talk page. Basically, message walls like talk pages, but you get notifications and are a little better organized. Two things

Hey there Ironyak,

I have two things I would like to bring to your attention:

1. In the new guidelines, there Is a minor spelling error. In the paragraph under "Do you have suggestions for the wiki?" , the word disregard is missing the "a".

2. In the "Ask a Mod a Question" thread, the Discussions Moderator CosmicChronos deleted a reply that I made that very much was not in violation of the guidelines (as far as I'm concerned). Would you mind looking into this for me and getting back to me? Just want to know if I am missing something...

Thank you, and have a good day!

Discussion/wiki guide

Hey there. I had previously mentioned about this topic on one of the feedback posts but they were not properly discussed for some or the other reason. I am planning on making a post that compromises of a wiki guide for a discussion board(mobile) user that will help them. Tjis post will consist of a lot of important post links. It will be sort of an FAQ only. Here is an example of a similar post

I have currently selected a few posts that are important and will shortly present you a rough draft of the same. What I wanted to know is can that post be made official? Reverb frost (talk) 06:35, March 12, 2019 (UTC)

Hello there. Here is a draft for what had proposed previously. Take a look at it and let me know. ( https://reverb-frost.fandom.com/d/p/3305836143182233601 )    Reverb frost (talk) 08:01, March 15, 2019 (UTC)
I will be sure to look into all 4 suggestions.
I wanted to know if I have a go to post this on the discussion board after making necessary changes? Also I'd prefer to post it when you are online so that you can lock it as well, since I am not allowed to use my GDM rights until mentioned otherwise.
That sounds great. Thanks for making my nomination possible. Reverb frost (talk) 12:59, March 16, 2019 (UTC)

Spoiler templates

When I can remove spoiler tags for the Crime of Grindelwald? MechQueste talk 18:29, March 12, 2019 (UTC)

Wizards unite information

I know that wizards unite is considered third tier canon, but I'm still thinking about how to add it into articles.

Beasts, onjects, and even characters can appear anywhere the player goes, but Harry, Ron and the others can't be in two places at the same time. I think the place should be left unspecified, with it just saying 21st century.

Also, the game seems to confirm that the DEs were still active after Voldemort's death.

With the creatures and onjects, it's probably the easiest considering there are several of most of them, though I think it could be difficult with objects like the Sorting Hat.

Could you have a look sat the new information and hekp me adding them? --Rodolphus (talk) 16:47, March 14, 2019 (UTC)

I seem to remember that it said somewhere that some of the treats were memories, which would explain the Harry situation.--Rodolphus (talk) 17:41, March 14, 2019 (UTC)

So, I've added to all appearances sections I can think of, though I have to admitt that I have forgotten the spoiler template. Can your bot add them.

Also, I think the massive breach, being the main plot pf the game, should get it's own in-universe article or at least its own section in the Statute of Secrecy article.--Rodolphus (talk) 18:31, March 14, 2019 (UTC)

Continuing the convo so that the discussion post won't get further grossly offtrack

Hi Yak! First of all, thank you so much for being patient with the explanations at https://harrypotter.fandom.com/d/p/3343172654596248784, however, I do have further questions, so as stated in this section title, I think relocating to continue the convo would be more appropriate. (I should also probably add, whenever I say I think, it literally is just that, they are words of my personal opinion and I'm not claiming them to be some official rules D;)

Um, so yeah, I don't think you were singling me out and I don't think you sounded mean, but I appreciate the clarification. =D

That said, I'm like not sure if the following would then be preferred and seen as less concerning? When seeing a post without source and credit, should I just skip the asking part and assume people wouldn't be able to find it, go try to search for it myself, and if successful, share it as a reply? I emphasize again, I know it's not required, but I care for credits, so if I can locate them, while nobody is forcing me to do this, it's my decision to do it, and I would like to provide it. (I'm sincerely hoping that providing a "not-required" source isn't somehow seen as trying to enforce a self-imposed rule or actually violating some policies; even in the situation where the thread has nothing to do with fan art, say, someone asks thoughts about an interview and only paraphrasing it without providing the actual interview, I would have replied to include it in my post. (no, it is not required, and I'm not saying it is)

It would only be a regular thing... if it's a regular thing that people don't credit the works and I happened to see it? I'm not sure if you were suggesting that I should just drop the matter altogether with the last paragraph of your response. If asking them first and replying to show the findings when they failed to provide is badgering and concerning, um, so that's why I'm now asking if I should just skip the asking part? Sorry if I'm not understanding you correctly. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 18:53, March 21, 2019 (UTC)

RE:Reply please

Hey there Ironyak1,

I deny that this is my account, but I (ocassionally) let my siblings use the main device I am on (which is a kindle fire), so it could be one of theirs. I have spoke to all of them about Fandom, so it could just be one of them trolling me. This user has been in contact with me several times, on my talk page, and in the chat. They have recently also joined a wiki I admin for, which is called the Westing Game Wiki.

I would also like to ask, why would I talk to myself if I had another account? I have messaged this user a few times, and all they have said to me is "how are you" or "hi". I have created another account before, but that was for testing on the Westing Game Wiki. The account was called "westinggamewikiexample" or something like that.

My goal, as always, is to build the wiki, not destroy it with alt accounts. If I have problems with Moderation, I take it to the MODs and you personally. I don't mind giving people a piece of my mind, I don't need an alt account for that. I have a catalog of positive contributions at Fandom, not one is harmful to any wiki. If there is something further on this you need to know I am more than happy to answer you.

Hello Ironyak1, Recently I joined the wiki after a long break and saw the discussion pretty much messed up with a number of repititive posts but no one to lock or delete them. I know you already have nominated two new mods but I would like to help the Dboard improve as well. So, If there is a place, I would propose myself too to moderate the discussion. Let me know asap. I was talking about these posts which according to me adds nothing to discussion, neither to the fancraft section as most images can be found through a Google search so I thought they were at least deemed to be locked. Werewolf template

Hello there, I was wondering if you know how to fix the Werewolf template for individual infoboxes? Currently the colour is fine (light brown), but always the infobox image will separate itself from the infobox itself. This can be seen here on the article about the werewolf Borf. The same thing has occured when I have tried using this infobox theme on other articles, and I can't seem to find the template myself, not even on the list of other individual templates. Thanks RedWizard98 (talk) 16:41, March 26, 2019 (UTC).

What's up with file pages?

When not logged in, it's impossible to access file pages; they redirect to a page they're on, or the main page if they're unused. I've seen this same behavior on Silent Hill Wiki as well. Why does this happen? It can cause major confusion when linking to images. Raymond1922 (talk) 20:40, March 26, 2019 (UTC)

I completely agree with you on that. I will be sure to use my rights only if no other superior authority is present and if the block is completely warnted. As for restoring block right, I would advice against it mostly since we don't need them at all but as you daid that you'd observe it before making any final judgement, I'd be looking forward to that.

Sup

I'll just be to the point. With RL issues as addressed on my Talk page, I just don't have time for certain things. I'm not looking for sympathy or extra leniency, because I try not to let what I'm coping with outside HPW, affect what I do on HPW. However, I don't think it'd be a stretch to say my tolerance with certain attitude would be considerably lower (comparing to my tolerance without the RL factor). At this point I feel slightly harassed, having hints of it back in this message. I said slightly, because I'm not so fragile to see it as anything as an attack, but some mild misguided anger, something I'm just not in the mood for dealing with a second time. I believe I was civil in my response, but if it comes across as patronizing, I'm afraid there's nothing I can do because the edit truly wasn't personal and idk how else to phrase it. Like, I'm honestly open for discussion on how to improve articles, like figuring out if there's a compromise to make both parties somewhat happy, but that's not the connotation I'm getting.

A neutral intervention would be appreciated. I'm not asking you to "take my side"; if you think there's better ways to respond, I'd be glad to get some advise. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 17:44, March 29, 2019 (UTC)

lmao, whelp, yeah, the reply. The are trying to say I didn't answer their question when I clearly addressed it in my reply. As this person stated "they'd be done with HPW once I reply", well, I hope you'll understand that I don't want to waste my time on the issue. I don't believe this behavior (threats and intimidation, though I felt neither threatened or intimidated, that's still the message they were sending) should be go unnoticed. Like I said, intervention would be nice. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 17:57, March 29, 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for your efficient reply. If I ever get to it (because that really is not one of my priority) I'd probably list out why I found benefit in the separation (as explained, Hufflepuff was the only one with the change, not because I thought it should be the only one having it, but because that was the one I saw and didn't have time to work on the rest, resulting it to be the odd one standing out.) I agree that in that case it could be weird, and perhaps people still wouldn't like it with all of them unified like that, but it's a different discussion for another day. That said, I hope you can understand why I'm sending this out prematurely, but if I'm getting followup upset (or worse, gloating) messages, I hope a cool-down time can be considered, because "Intimidating behavior/harassment of users" is amongst the reasons for the action. I don't think it's okay for them to think that leaving threats when they are upset, is acceptable. And I honestly don't want a repeat incident. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 18:23, March 29, 2019 (UTC)

Believe it or not, there is nothing wrong with being thorough, and that whole "I'm going to declare Ninclow's edits as "subjective interpretation", which will become accepted truth by default on the basis of my own authority as an admin and have the support of the general consensus of the admin team" shtick you have going on is getting kind of old. We have reached the point where I cannot even remember the last time I made an edit, however small, that you didn't seem to undo for largely superficial reasons, and to be honest with you, at this point, I just find it more than a little degrading, to be honest.

Sorry for being a drama queen, but I'm just going to say it: I have lost both my parents, two grandmothers, a cousin and a family friend in the past decade alone, and believe it or not, I'm struggling as a result.Harry Potter is, and have actually always been, an invaluable way to escape for me. When things become too rough, I will push it to the back of my mind, and I will find pride and joy in just how much work I've put into this place. And how much time and effort I have spent to elaborate and improve on it is the only thing about myself in which I find any true pride and joy. And to be utterly unable to make a single edit aimed at an attention to detail without you instantly throwing yourself over it to render it half-baked - to be honest, I find it demoralizing. I know you have no intention of doing so, and probably don't even realize it, but your attitude towards me, especially after you became an admin, has become a contribruting factor to why I consistenty think less of myself. For this reason, I am now going to give you a choice.

Right now, I'm done, and I just don't think I could have cared less about what "rank" Seth saw fit to give you even if I tried, because this message is not sent from an editor to a wiki staff, it's sent from one human to another: For future references, you can either reach out to me on the talk page if it's too "wordy" so I can simply things while maintaining all the facts, instead of you butchering every single edit I make, or I have no other choice but to stop editing on the wikia, because I can't continue like this. This will be my very last try to actually find a way for us to work together rather than against one another, and if you reject it, then I suppose a congratulation is in order, since you will have successfully driven me away from this place. Truth be told, you never gave any indication that you ever wanted me here in the first place, but heck, I'll take it with a grain of salt. So - I stay or I leave, it's up to you. Maester Martin (talk) 12:54, March 31, 2019 (UTC)

Discovered duplicated article

Hello, forget the last message I sent you regarding the werewolf template (as it turns out not one even exists anyway), but today whilst editing I did find this duplicate article, on this unidentified bald male Death Eater. It is an accidentially created article, on exactly the same Death Eater here, but it is worded slightly differently, that is all. If you could delete the duplicate article, which already has a non-notable tag applied to it, as well as no image or categories, that would be marvellous to clear up the confusion. Thank you RedWizard98 (talk) 17:03, April 2, 2019 (UTC).

Fantastic Beasts wiki correction: actors nationality

Hi Ironyak!

I’m a big Harry Potter and fantastic beasts fan and was delighted when my friend and actor Conor Lane got a part as a supporting actor in the Crimes of Grindelwald.

I’m also delighted you updated the Harry Potter wiki to include him but I have a small correction.

On his wiki page he is stated as being ‘British’ when he is actually Irish!

Our ancestors lived oppressed under British rule for hundreds of years and this all too common mistake stirs up great sorrow in the darkest corners of my heart. I showed the page to my grandmother and she sighed a defeated sigh. It seems our struggle isn’t over yet.

If you could correct this significant detail I would be very grateful.

Here’s a link to his wiki:

Thanks very much,

Luke

About the Amandahorses and Cameron Ravenclaw Blocks

Hey there Ironyak1, Recently, I have been poking through the wiki and remembered a block issued by the ex-mod The Dark Marc. I am here today to appeal the blocks of the users Cameron Ravenclaw and Amandahorses. They were both blocked on speculation, and Marc did not provide any evidence that these users are at all linked.

I have reviewed every post that these users have made, and have found no link between the user accounts. I have also brought this to Staff to see what they thought, and got a reply from George Marbulcanti (Kirkburn), saying that his honest opinion was that there was no evidence saying that they are the same person.

All in all, I would like for these users to be unblocked, or at least for the cases to be reviewed.

Thanks so much, Harrypotterexpert101 Council-icon-FANDOM.svg (talk) 22:07, April 9, 2019 (UTC)

Ah, I remember now. When Marc quit, he unblocked (almost) every person he has blocked.

Thanks so much! Harrypotterexpert101 Council-icon-FANDOM.svg (talk) 05:11, April 10, 2019 (UTC)

I've seen some similarity between Beatrice Haywood and Ginny Weasley,in Hogwarts Mystery. Is it possible to comment below Beatrice's wiki page about these resemblance?

Reporting potential vandalism.

Hello again, this new user, called Dr.michealgunner, is consistently tampering with the infoboxes for both Ron and Arthur Weasley's articles, unnecessarily causing them to sprawl everywhere. They are ignoring my advice and thus they are starting to irritate me. I would recommend looking into this as soon as you can, thank you RedWizard98 (talk) 20:46, April 19, 2019 (UTC).

Can you look into this please?

Hey there Ironyak1, Earlier today I created this template, and ran into a problem. Every time I would try to add it to a user page it would consume the entire content of the page. Would you mind looking into this and possibly fixing it? Thanks, Harrypotterexpert101 Council-icon-FANDOM.svg (talk) 04:10, April 21, 2019 (UTC)

I am soooooo special. Thanks for the fix! Harrypotterexpert101 Council-icon-FANDOM.svg (talk) 04:19, April 21, 2019 (UTC)

Apologies

Hello, I would wish to politely apologise if some of my comments I leave may have been considered rude by you or others. I am not an insolent or mean-spirited individual, I just happen to be extremely obsessive, dedicated and observants, with a keen eye and obsession for facts and administration. As such, I often get annoyed by people either making intentional or unitentional mistakes or irregularities in writing, so I often respond sarcastically, as I have a rather acerbic sense of humour.

I love editing Harry Potter wiki, and I am extremely proud of my work I have done over the past few months, having made over seven thousand edits. It is definitely one of the most engaging, interesting, well-written, intelligent and creative fandoms out there, so all editors and Admin alike should be proud for having created and maintaining such an impressive encyclopaedia. I am not here to attack or offend anyone, just here to write and to enjoy myself. Happy spell-casting RedWizard98 (talk) 05:31, April 25, 2019 (UTC).

Wizard's Unite

Hello again, just to let you know, two identical articles have been accidentally created on the Weakening Hex, so they definitely need merging. Can I also enquire, whereabouts are you getting new information regarding this upcoming game, as I am rather interested in it myself. Thanks RedWizard98 (talk) 05:52, April 26, 2019 (UTC).

I will check that link out that you sent me. Hopefully, it will be an actually decent game, unlike that money-milking atrocity called Hogwarts Mystery. ThanksRedWizard98 (talk) 06:02, April 26, 2019 (UTC).

Snatchers

Hello again, this is a somewhat random question, but would you consider Snatchers, in particular Greyback and Scabior to canonically be Dark Wizards? Whilst the two are heavily allied to the Death Eaters and with Greyback being a savage dark creature, the two are not shown using any dark spells in the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. However, in LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7, they are both Dark Wizards in game, with the ability to use dark magic to manipulate cursed objects and can both cast the killing curse. Whilst the books are the highest canonical authority, the video games are still considered canonical material, as long they do not change previous canon rules. For example, in the LEGO games, they give us information of many character's magical characteristics, mainly with boggart forms and the ability to cast Patronuses. What is your opinion? RedWizard98 (talk) 22:29, April 28, 2019 (UTC)

Administrative issues.

Hello, I think there may be some issues with the formatting on Ernie Macmillan's article page. When I read his article today, for some reason in a previous edit which I could not decipher, all of his categories had vanished. Also when I tried to edit his infobox through infobox editor, the whole format sprawled everywhere. There are also some issues with Hermione's page, as the contents tab only goes down so far and does not contain several sections, along with not being able to see the recent wikia tab on the right hand side of the page. Furthermore, there are two image categories both titled LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, they need merging with the correct capitalisation of "LEGO". Thanks RedWizard98 (talk) 06:58, May 1, 2019 (UTC).

Administration feedback

Thanks for the advice. Usually, I do much prefer using classic/source editor, as it allows you to properly add references to articles and to add links in the infoboxes, so I will definitely avoid using visual editor on the whole, especially with big articles. Thanks for looking into the issue RedWizard98 (talk) 17:36, May 1, 2019 (UTC).

Reporting spam

Hello friend, I would very much like to report the user Infinitewisdom12, and their sock-puppet account Infinitepower12. They keep leaving me ridiculous and unwarranted messages on my talk page, of absolute and utter drivel, that is no relevance to Harry Potter in the slightest. They keep on doing this, and it is really starting to annoy me very much, as my talk page should only be for messages related to actual editing on this wiki. Personally, I think both accounts should be blocked for spam, but anyway I wish for you to deal with it, one way, or another. Thank you. RedWizard98 (talk) 22:32, May 6, 2019 (UTC)

Continued harassment

Hello friend, the pathetic pervert Infinite Wisdom/Power12 has returned and decided to leave me a repulsive image on my talk page, which depicted Merula Snyde and a blonde female engaging in S&M. The image was absolutely revolting, inappropriate and a form of continued harassment by this vile user against me, for no logical reason whatsoever. Their new sock puppet account is called Kingleage 200, and you can find their sickening post on my talk page history. Block them immediately, thank you. RedWizard98 (talk) 00:15, May 11, 2019 (UTC)

Who knows what and the relevance of whether who knows what

Yes, a super tongue-twisting section title. So, I'd like to hear your input at Talk:Vault of Fear#Relevant statements, having to do with the recent editing summaries provided at https://harrypotter.fandom.com/index.php?title=Vault_of_Fear&diff=1226344&oldid=1226342. I'm NOT saying "the Staff in fact, definitely, absolutely knows where this vault is", I'm saying it was never brought up, confirmed or denied, within the game, so I don't quite understand why people feel the need to assume "the Staff don't know where this vault is" as a fact, because "obviously, they don't, or they would have done something about it." People do illogical things, fictional people can also do illogical things. To believe they understand the inner workings of all fictional people, is quite astounding imo. I previously compromised and tagged fact to the (now-removed) sentence, hoping someone would provide an actual source, but apparently "it's a given that reference is unnecessary/would be redundant". I removed it altogether since without it, the article still reads fine. If there's a better way to handle the situation, would love to learn. Thanks. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 12:06, May 11, 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome, mate! hope I used the Talk page comment section correctly? KirbyTheEditor (talk) 14:53, May 12, 2019 (UTC)

Reporting Fanon.

Hello again, I am contacting you tonight to report a piece of incredulous Fanon that has been created on this Wiki. It is an article for a "character" called "Madison Wilder", who is not an actual in-universe character, but simply an Avatar of Jacob's sibling, which you can tell just by reading it. Therefore, it needs removing from this Wiki. Furthermore, thanks for blocking that filthy pervert who had been harassing me on my talk page; I have also reprorted them to Fandom Central for harassment and gross misconduct. I have also contacted Sammm about the Fanon, but seen as though she is not always active online, I thought giving you the message would be a good idea, in case you see it before she does. Good night. RedWizard98 (talk) 22:21, May 12, 2019 (UTC)

Reporting vile image.

Hello, I would like to request this repulsive image be removed immediately. It verges on paedophilia in my mind. Porn images

At the time of this writing, Special:Contributions/Dasarkozy has uploaded three pornographic images, posting on three rather important pages. I figure they should be deleted, and Dasarkocy be blocked. Tazenda 19:29, May 16, 2019 (UTC)

Reporting vandalism and vulgar behaviour.

Hello, this new user, Dasarkozy, is vandalizing articles at a fast rate, by uploading disgusting and explicit pornagraphic images on articles, which are peverted and vile and do not belong on a family friendly wiki. You need to ban them and remove all these images immediately, as they are not stopping. RedWizard98 (talk) 19:34, May 16, 2019 (UTC)

Whilst I have reported this issue to Community central, as a new fake sock puppet account has been created by the same loser called "RedWizard92", this user is repeatedly vandalising this wiki by inserting horrendous images onto articles, so do make sure to watch out for any more vandalism and block them, including this vandal's IP address, as they will keep coming back with sock puppets. RedWizard98 (talk) 12:12, May 17, 2019 (UTC)

URGENT VANDALISM UPDATE

The same vandal from before has returned with the same user name, and is vandalising articles with images of naked bodies, yet again (It would not surprise me if they have a sexual disorder). Their name is "RedWiizard98", this time (pure stupidity), and I cannot revert their edits fast enough on my own. Get rid of them immediately and block their IP address indefinitely. RedWizard98 (talk) 02:00, May 19, 2019 (UTC)

My pleasure again Ironyak1, with fighting such evil filth. I have also contacted Fandom Community to get any IP addresses used by this sick individual blocked for good. I will keep looking out for any wrongdoing, because no children deserve to see such obscene material. Happy wizarding. RedWizard98 (talk) 02:07, May 19, 2019 (UTC)

More awful vandalism

Block the fake sock puppet account "RedWizard988" along with their IP address, ASAP for good. More pornographic images and user name trolling. Get rid of them ASAP. RedWizard98 (talk) 15:28, May 19, 2019 (UTC)

Following on, this user has been blocked across fandom thankfully again, but keep on the look-out for vandalism and the same pervert returning with false user names, and fight them whenever they might appear. Good luck. RedWizard98 (talk) 15:38, May 19, 2019 (UTC)

Hopefully, now this disgusting and unhealthy vandalism appears to have stopped for the time being, we can all relax and get back to editing as normal. However, I will keep my beady eye out for any suspicious behaviour which could emerge, on the whole of this wiki. Good night from where I am. RedWizard98 (talk) 00:31, May 20, 2019 (UTC)

Reporting vandalism.

Hello, this user "SNEK69" is vandalising the "Snake" article, by referring to snakes, as "Sneks". I have warned them on their talk page, but I think a block is in order, as they have done this thrice now. RedWizard98 (talk) 02:32, May 24, 2019 (UTC)

Past tense

Are you sure that the past-tense policy applies to all in-universe articles, as you said here? If it does, I'm afraid to tell you that almost no one seems to follow it since there are hundreds of examples of articles about creatures and objects written in the present tense.

Here is just a small sample: Abraxan Ashwinder Being Bludger Boggart Broom Bundimun Chizpurfle Clabbert Creature Dementor Dragon Fairy Flobberworm Gargoyle Ghoul Gnome Gobstones Golden Snitch Hag Horcrux Horklump Kneazle Magic Merpeople Mooncalf Non-being Pensieve Pixie Plimpy Poltergeist Portkey Puffskein Quaffle Salamander Streeler Troll Vampire Wand Werewolf Winged horse Wizard Chess Wizard Cracker

It seems that the policy is only followed in articles about characters and events. - Esbonl (talk) 19:26, May 24, 2019 (UTC)

Sorry for keep moaning about some of your bots edits. It has made the odd error before, and I just get a little frustrated when they occur. The rule applied to the Killing Curse is fine, I just thought perhaps it should have belonged in that category directly on its own, due to how notorious and thematically relevant that spell is. Happy editing.RedWizard98 (talk) 09:02, June 1, 2019 (UTC)

Re:Appearances removal

I created this template after seeing someone complaining here about an excessively long appearances list in the article Human hair. Since nobody objected to the template in a long while, and a user here even expressed support for it, I think it is clear that the community has not rejected it. As far as I'm concerned, there is not a single policy stating that every in-universe article must have such a list (so it's definitely not vandalism) and there is no reason on Earth why articles like "oxygen", "human", and "magic" would need to have one; those subjects appear everywhere. It would be okay to remove this template from some of the articles if you think they are exceptions, but deleting the template and claiming it to be vandalism is not admirable behaviour.

Since you ignored my previous message where I explained how you made a nonsensical reversion based on a supposed policy which, if even real, is largely ignored by the community, I'm coming to believe you are not quite certain about the things you try to impose on users. - Esbonl (talk) 17:48, June 2, 2019 (UTC)

Okay then. I'll propose in the forums that those become official policies. - Esbonl (talk) 00:15, June 3, 2019 (UTC)

Sexual orientation in Hogwarts Mystery

There are characters in Hogwarts Mystery that could be defined as LGBT such as Barnaby Lee and our character has the option to say we fancy members of the opposite and same sex. If and when dating comes to Hogwarts Mystery according to Datamining, should all the characters we have the option to date be placed under a category for LGBT individuals or something? Category:Articles with information from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

This category never was/is created. Is there another category with same purpose?  MechQueste 15:13, June 6, 2019 (UTC)

Prudence

This is about the article for Prudence. As I said in my edit description, I don't think it is sensible to assume her surname was not Rabnott. This is what Starstuff said on the matter:

"We can assume Pru's surname was the same as Modesty. Modesty had to sell her home, which suggests she was unmarried, and didn't have a husband or in-laws to ask for help. And if Pru was married, her maiden name would still be Rabnott."

Please consider this. Thanks. Hasan987 (talk) 19:01, June 6, 2019 (UTC)

Re: Real World Subject

This is my reasoning behind the real world subject changes and reclarification.

The real world subject template is meant to explain that an article is written from an in-universe point of view, where it might otherwise not be obvious. This is in contrast to the "Not a part of the Harry Potter universe" template, and is useful for explaining the situation behind, for example, in-universe J.K. Rowling, or in-universe Lond, because otherwise people could mistake it for the real thing.

Generic things are specifically excluded from the template's definition even before I added the "proper noun" part. You'll note that it says it's used for products, people, etc., but doesn't mention the generic term "things." This is to exclude generic terms such as water, because chances are, if someone is looking up water on the Harry Potter wiki, they want to know about water in the context of Harry Potter. Meanwhile, if they look something up like "J.K. Rowling" and discover that she exists as a character within the Harry Potter universe, the template clarifies between the real world and in-universe versions.

Jacob image

Since Jacob's appearance (different bald hair color) varies depending on our player's hair color, how would an image be uploaded for his character if many plyers have different hair colors? IlvermornyWizard (talk) 02:16, June 7, 2019 (UTC) IlvermornyWizard

Request an image title change.

Hello, with regards to my numerous uploads of various Funko POP! I did not upload this one myself, and it has an unrecognisable name which cannot be searched on the image database. If you change the title to something identifiable as opposed to the jargon filled name it has currently, that would be good thanks.RedWizard98 (talk) 19:52, June 8, 2019 (UTC)

Hedwig POP Vinyl

Past tense confusion.

I am sort of aware that supposedly all articles are to be written in past tense, but it is somewhat confusing, and is not widely applied. If you look at articles, such as the Hogwarts, Wizardkind, Non-magic people and Magic, for a few examples, all of these are written in the present tense, and yet you don't seem to have paid any attention or shown interest to these, along with a huge number of articles. Perhaps I would look into these instead rather than with small articles, and plus you have removed some of my references on the Unicorn hair article, which I will re-adding accordingly. You also have not replied to many messages I have asked you about numerous topics, which I have asked you about in the past, which I hate to say I don't find terribly courteous or helpful for an Admin. I do accept any wiki policies, but I don't think whatever they may be, that they are very clear to editors or readers, or widely applied.RedWizard98 (talk) 01:11, June 9, 2019 (UTC)

If this policy does apply, then believe me you have a terrible amount of editing to do, as I am focusing on character articles from now on. In terms of following policy, which I do rather well, it would still be most polite and courteous for you to actually bother to reply to all of my messages (such as on Werewolves, POP! Vinyls, Dark Wizards), many of which you have not even acknowledged, which I find very ill-mannered and patronising, for someone who is supposed to always other help to, and answer questions from other editors.RedWizard98 (talk) 01:43, June 9, 2019 (UTC)

Past-tense policy

I feel like a dialogue about the past-tense policy should be opened, as I feel it is being grossly overused instead for of its original purpose, which was to make articles that occurred chronologically read as if they occurred in the past, which is reasonable, but I saw no dialogue on how that would affect the multitude of other articles about magical subjects in general. Spells "were"? Are they no longer? Creatures "were"? Do they no longer exist? No. Even JK Rowling, when writing about the universe on Pottermore, refers to it in present tense, except for historical accounts. The same applies to Fantastic Beasts (the book) AND Wonderbook, AND Book of Potions use present tense, which I don't need to tell you was also written by Rowling.

I saw no dialogue in any form on how making this blanket policy would be misused for literally every in-universe article. That's what I'm asking to be considered.

Hermione: "They wanted to [change every article to past-tense]! You had no right to do that!"
Scrimgeour: "I had every right. The [Forum:Past/Present tense?] gives the [users] the power to [change an article's tense to the past]--"
Hermione: "That [policy] was created to make ["[past events read] as if they had happened in the past"]! Are you telling me that [magic no longer exists]?"

Oerk (talk) 01:20, June 9, 2019 (UTC)

I do agree with Oerk, as he has some very valid and worthwhile points. It is very confusing and not widely applied across Fandom. Perhaps a community wide discussion, and perhaps necessary project is needed to better explain this policy to others. Furthermore, telling me I will be blocked and being accused of vandalism, I find personally is slightly disrespectful for having done over 12,000 edits in under one year, with still an awful lot left to do.RedWizard98 (talk) 01:27, June 9, 2019 (UTC)

Firstly, I do not demand answers from people, but simply many ask questions, and very politely too. Definitely I do intend to use the admin request system, and hope someone else other than yourself replies, as you have been of zero help to many light enquires I have pondered about, not even big issues, and I do not really appreciate being spoken down to as if I am unaware of what I am doing, because believe me I am, and the truth is . I personally don't want to be an admin, as I think such roles are restrictive creatively, but I think in my opinion there are others on here who would do a great job of being additional admins, as I think having one active admin on any wiki is quite poor, and I don't think you or any others admin were present to help me and many others when hundreds of acts of vandalism were committed at the start of the attacks, and thus community support had to be brought in. You will continue to see me around on this website.RedWizard98 (talk) 02:07, June 9, 2019 (UTC)

Speculation?

Long story short, I have been looking for edits and came across the Slytherin page, and started looking over it in search for grammatical errors or factual errors, and then I came across these; the fourth and fifth paragraph under Reputation (not counting the block quote).

The fourth begins with "It might also be possible (though quite unlikely)[...]", and the fifth is a continuation of this (beginning with "It is also likely that[...]"). As said clearly, they demonstrate the likeliness of something, not the fact that it happened.
Since it is not a fact, as stated, isn't it speculation?

Apology

Hey Ironyak1, So here I'm. Yes, apologizing to you for whatever I said to you. I think I went far by calling an admin as stubborn but I felt you won't take it quite seriously as we all are stubborn sometimes. But even though if you felt it disrespectful, I'm quite sorry for that. I even apologize for calling you tempered on Pottermore OT. I can accept anything but not being disrespectful but if it does seem disrespectful, I'm again sorry for that.

Also, sorry to say but your comments do came rude to me which I'm guessing was because you already had quite a bad impression of me cuz I argued for OT.

Also, as for back talking, I think we have certain misunderstandings considering the "thanks" issue which u said in our previous conversation. So, I just wanted to know if there is anything more which I said on OT and you believe it was intended to you, pls let me know.

I should understand that you are an admin and have quite great responsibilities. But see! I am contributing to discussions for quite a long time and have some experience too regarding modding. English might not be my primary language but it is enough understandable for people in the Dboard. So, I at least don't want to ruin my chances of being a mod because an admin thinks that I have disrespected him and talked behind his back.

So, I request you to pls reconsider my nomination. If not now then may be in near future.

I don't know if I was able to appropriately express my views or not but I surely expect a kind and positive response. Thanks:)

Newt Strike (talk) 16:09, June 10, 2019 (UTC)

Hey Yak, Thank you for the reply and I noticed that you have been quite softened in how you phrase your sentences. It's not coming rude to me now. As for taking responsibility of my faults, I take the entire credit for my faults. I should not have argued with you for OT(but I was not alone in doing that). I should not have argued for my nomination as well. I'm extremely sorry for all of this and I assure you it won't happen in the future. If you don't need mods now it's okay, I will wait for sometime but pls don't discard my nomination on account of my behavior because I seriously don't mean things. I have started spending less time on OT so that I don't say anything which seem back talking to you. So, pls just assure me that you have forgiven me and whenever there is a need for new mod, you will consider my nomination. You can talk to Reverb and Dave, they will tell you I'm not that agressive. It were just your comments which provoked me doing what I did. Hope you consider my request. Thanks.

RE:Real-world subjects

Real world subject did not originally say any such thing about "proper nouns"; it was Oerk who altered the template text (see this edit revision). The point of the template (as it points out) is to signal that certain details in those articles may differ from real world facts. (I'm not positive but, if memory serves, it was created in response to frequent edit wars on the Millennium Bridge article as people changed it in good-faith to make it read that it was built in 2000 -- which canonically it wasn't.)

It strikes me as an arbitrary change; though canon is unlikely to make any liberties with the concept of bacon anytime soon, it has made some with some real-world concepts (off the top of my head, cf. bubblegum, skin-walker). --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 20:42, June 10, 2019 (UTC)

It just seems simpler and more neat to just use it to tag all real-world subjects (with the added bonus of showing which articles should use the present tense, yes). I'm not entirely sure in what way does it detract from the article turnip to have that template at the top.
Everything is fine, how have you been? --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 21:20, June 10, 2019 (UTC)

Possible hiatus?

Thanks for the edits! I'll see to them, or so I'd say.. Here's my second point. I'm probably gonna have to hiatus from modding for a while. Currently writing this from my phone through KDE connect, but my laptop keyboard is "broken", as in the d key, backspace and enter keys refuse to work.

KDE connect lags after a while, and I make too many typos from my phone, so I'll probably be only scarcely around until I find the issue and fix it.

The edit I keep making

Since you evidently do not look at the page in question before undoing the edit, I shall explain here. The edit you have just undone has turned the words to this "The Cruciatus Curse' (also known as the Torture Curse and the Crucio Curse) and all I am doing is adding the third ' after "Crucio Curse" to make the italics correct. Kindly actually bloody look at the page before you undo the edit. That is all. I'll let you fix it, shall I? It's your mistake after all.--ProfessorMcDumbles (talk) 02:25, June 14, 2019 (UTC) I did look. As far as I could see, apart from adding in the ', I had done literally nothing else on the page. ProfessorMcDumbles (talk) 02:41, June 14, 2019 (UTC)

I might just leave instead. It might make things easier for both of us. ProfessorMcDumbles (talk) 02:57, June 14, 2019 (UTC)

Yak, is there any actual way to prevent "the refs are all shifted"? Because this basically happens to all edits when having tables the have refs in columns that are 1 links? I never shift them on purpose; even when it was perfectly formatted, upon the next edit, it'd automatically shift, and I always use source edit. The only real additional hiccup in ProfessorMcDumbles's edit was "Carrow|Alecto& n b s p;" (sans the spaces), overall, wasn't exactly a big deal? (Not encouraging the tone, just wondering if there's an actual solution to the problem.) --Sammm✦✧(talk) 03:12, June 14, 2019 (UTC)
I would like it noted that the whole "Carrow|Alecto & n b s p;" thing was not something I edited, Sammm. ProfessorMcDumbles (talk) 03:17, June 14, 2019 (UTC)

Question:

Where and/or when was it said that Harry was promoted to Head of the Auror Office in 2007? Because I noticed something in the "J.K. Rowling and the Live Chat, Bloomsbury.com" interview from July of 2007. A question is raised:

Could you tell us what professions Harry, Hermione, Ron, Ginny and Luna go on to have? Did the trio do their final year at school and take their NEWTs?

To which Rowling replies the following:

"Thank you! I've already answered about Hermione. Kingsley became permanent Minister for Magic, and naturally he wanted Harry to head up his new Auror department."

Kind of makes it sound like Harry was placed in charge of the Auror Office straight away, doesn't it? Maester Martin (talk) 03:10, June 19, 2019 (UTC)

Past-tense

I'm back, is one thing I wanted to say... and another thing...

I was flicking through Random Page, looking for edits, and I found this page about Seoul. It says "Seoul was a country located [...]". Is it not still? For now, I edited it to present time. I recall there being a policy for past-tense that says this is to be the case (and a previous debate about this issue), but I honestly think that things such as cities that are still existent should be put in present tense.

Most major wikis, such as Wikipedia use, if I'm not mistaken, present tense as well, so I don't really see why we would use past-tense for everything.

You could argue that it is because it is in a different universe that we're not sure if something happened that caused, for example, Seoul, to not exist anymore, but at the same time there is no canon source to suggest anything as such, and given that, I think the past-tense policy needs to be updated, if it hasn't already been.

If it has, then I feel stupid for arguing on this, but great. Good day Yoontae, the "Drunk Chat Mod" (Inconvenience me here!) 20:55, June 23, 2019 (UTC)

Using GDM Tools

Hey Ironyak1, it's me Newt bothering you once again. I hope you have forgiven me for whatever happened last time between us. As we know, Magnus has recently resigned from his modship which necessarily doesn't open up a post for another mod and neither do am I hoping so at this moment. But as you might notice, I have been promoted to a GDM recently so I was wondering if you could allow me to take necessary mod actions on the Dboard and let me use those mod tools. I know I can't use them until I'm asked to and that's why I'm here to take your permission for this. I'm positive mods will agree on this but just wanted your feedback regarding this. I can help you guys out handling the discussion when you guys are away. If it's okay let me know. And I won't be disappointed if your answer is No. I will be fine with that too.

Newt Strike (talk) 18:50, June 27, 2019 (UTC)

^ah! It's really okay. I know GDM's can't take mod actions in a community which is already being well moderated. And actually, if you would give me a chance then you would see how many users are in support of me only if you accept my nomination and organise a voting process. Anyways, I was just asking to help you out guys as GDM's can take mod actions if they have admin/mod permission. But it seems you are not fine with the idea. It's really okay though . I would just request you to rethink of my nomination. If you want we can have a chat once more.

As for my mod actions, I guess I locked a "what's your house post" and approved one or two reported replies which were not violating guidelines and were reported merely on the basis of disliking. I know I shouldn't have done that, I would be careful to not repeat this in future. Thanks. Newt Strike (talk) 05:34, June 28, 2019 (UTC)

New GDM

Hey Ironyak1,

As you may already know, the user Newt Strike has recently become a Global Discussions Moderator. It has come to my attention that he has been performing moderation actions on this wiki without having consent from the moderators/administrators. Having read the conversation above me, it seems you also have found this.

I have talked to Reverb frost about this, and we both agree that we don't want Newt Strike to be allowed to perform any moderation actions in our discussions. He is kind of going place to place acting like he is in charge of everyone. I brought this to your attention because you are the admin, and I figured you might want to know. Cheers, Harrypotterexpert101 Council-icon-FANDOM.svg (talk) 14:26, June 29, 2019 (UTC)

I completely agree with Dave here. Being a GDM myself I feel that it was wrong. Also for the message that you(@Ironyak1) left on Dave's wall, I would like to simply bring an article before you. What Dave did, ie, question the GDM, was right(even our guidelines forbid us to interfere in wikis that have active moderation), but there have been some additions to GDM role FANDOMwide and I simply wanted to let you know of it. Moderation issues

  • sigh*...

Hey pal, hope you're doing fine. Thanks for helping to resolve the issue of the underage user (alt since the other was disabled), your efforts are greatly appreciated. I understand that, to some extent, I have been in the wrong, especially about the boundaries between what the local moderation can do, and what is better left to FANDOM's administration.

However... there is still one more thing that bothers me.

Over and over, I have observed Reverb's behaviour— and found it lacking. Again and again, I have studied his actions, and found that he is incompetent as a (Global and Local) Moderator, as he fails us repetitively.

He fails to comprehend even the simplest understanding of rules and common sense, not to mention his absent sense of duty and responsibility.

Please pardon me for saying this. I simply feel a need to express my sentiment; and please do correct me if I am wrong. I seek to view Reverb as a honorable person to look up to; a moderator who I may respect.

It makes me wonder: if he could take on the role of Moderator, anyone can. I sincerely want to become a Mod again, for the true voice of the people, for the common, greater good. I only wish to resume my position of Moderator, even if it just means listening to what people want and solving their problems with no glory. Would you nominate me?

For the people,

Well, I am here to tell you that I have tested the feature referred to that I found on the Dev Wiki, and found that it works!

The page on how to install it is found here. My test was after the feature was installed and approved by Fandom Staff. The log that came out of my test can be found here for reference. Intervention

Hello. I think your intervention is needed to cool down a number of arguments. These include a debate at Gellert Grindelwald's talk page and eye colour of Lily and James Potter being caused by User:ProfessorMcDumbles, which has descended into an edit war against five editors.

The actions of ProfessorMcDumbles is identical to that of Ninclow and Maester Martin. Ninclow was blocked, Maester Martin is their known sockpuppet and I think it's worth checking if ProfessorMcDumbles is another sockpuppet of theirs. I am in agreement with User:Xanderen that Ninclow / Maester Martin could be ProfessorMcDumbles. Even if they are not the same and I could be wrong, I think both need to be contacted by an admin. It's strange Ninclow started the debate about Grindelwald, and then just disappeared to be replaced by a user who behaves the exact same.

Just out of curiosity, if Ninclow was blocked, why is their sockpuppet being allowed to edit? I have no ill intention, whatever action you think is necessary will be respected. I just want these arguments to be resolved. Thank you! - Kates39 (talk) 16:54, August 19, 2019 (UTC)

Agreed! It's very apparent that Ninclow/Master Martin is ProfessorMcDumbles. He's been using both accounts to manipulate several discussions. Please request that Fandom do a CheckUser. - Xanderen signature 17:04, August 19, 2019 (UTC)
I'm just replying to both of you here. Maester Martin has been banned as a known sock-puppet - other administrators had hoped he had learned from past mistakes but it appears not. ProfessorMcDumbles is not Ninclow/Maester Martin but a CheckUser has been requested and based on the result, he may also be permanently banned. Thanks for taking the time to contact me about these concerns - I was hoping some discussion on Grindelwald would help them to understand why the edits were overly speculative, but they both refuse to listen and work with others again, so it appears not. Thanks for keeping calm and trying to work through the situation. Cheers --Ironyak1 (talk) 17:28, August 19, 2019 (UTC)

HEY Ironyak1. Why did u elect my post to be deleted! It's gone now and it took an hour. They were just fun facts. I think you are a little old to bully ten year olds like me. And the page said you deleted it because you thought it was "utter nonsense" And also btw, J.K. Rowling said so herself.

Image policy concern

Hello, I am slightly concerned with the large amount of images an editor called Harry91 has uploaded recently, as nearly all of them were given unknown license tags. I am definitely sure this is not how you upload images properly, as I have never occurred this problem, and I upload images frequently as you have probably seen. This editor is cordial and well-intentioned, but some of his image uploads are duplicates or have dull colouring, so I have had to attend each of them. Perhaps if you could politely message him to ensure the image uploads are done correctly, thanks. RedWizard98 (talk) 23:33, August 19, 2019 (UTC)

Inflating charm

Hey Yak, so recently someone posted this on the discussion..https://harrypotter.fandom.com/d/p/3343172654596333706, which have kind of made me to think of the case here.

The wiki article of Inflating Charm says, that Harry used this charm to blow up aunt Marge while on the other hand, the article Silencing Charm says Harry used this charm unintentionally and wandlessly which unfortunately failed and resulted in the blow up of Aunt Marge.

So, what is the case here? Did he use both these charms or what? I always thought it was inflating charm. Do we have a source which says Harry used silencing charm? Could you pls clarify?

Template:VideoFooter

Hello Ironyak1,

This template points to the now defunct Fandom Video Library. The feature was removed in late 2017 or early 2018. The feature left that template pointing to a redirect that points to the main fandom page and left many pages with broken files. It also is still transcluded on numerous pages. As confirmed by staff in this thread. Thus, I am wondering if I can be added to the AutowikiBrowser page so Ic an go through the 100 or so pages and clear the template out.

Thank you for your consideration. MechQueste 22:56, August 22, 2019 (UTC)

Gilderoy Lockhart

Hello Ironyak1, the user "Oerk" is still conducting edit wars on Lockhart's article and is removing significant portions of acceptable sourced information from his article. I am quite bemused as to why this argument over Lockhart's article even happened in the first place, but my opinion is that "Oerk" continually causes edit wars (see his tone on the Protego Diabolica talk page discussion with multiple others), in particular with myself, and uses an impolite, aggressive and petulant tone when debating things, with a complete disregard for other's views, almost assuming the role of an admin, for which he is not. I know we have all have our own ways of discussing things and I have been correctly disciplined of my past behaviour with others, but I think Oerk's editorial manner is very belligerent and rude and I think he needs to informed of this by an admin. Kind regards.RedWizard98 (talk) 13:31, August 28, 2019 (UTC)

Also, with regards to the highly disputed image of Lockhart playing Quidditch (which I do believe is genuine, as he was in Ravenclaw), but does it mean he played as the Seeker? I see no snitch in this image, or any other equipment aside from his broom and knee pads, so he could of in my view played as any role. What do you think? - User:RedWizard98

Mermish/Image attention

I have left a response on the talk page for Mermish, but it is magical; it can only be understood clearly underwater, and simply sounds horrible above water, so I fail to see how you would disregard that as magic (as it is supernatural), for the sake of argument. There are also two images that were uploaded recently that require deleting if you have not seen them yet, one is of a Beaver (used for Vandalism on Neville's page) and one of personal image of somebody, which of course are not allowed. I actually had a look in the deletion category, and there are quite a lot of things that could do with deleting: duplicated/unused categories, images not from franchise, that sort of thing. I think it would be a good idea for you to review them (files in the deletion category), as it should not take long at all. Kind regards. - User:RedWizard98

RE:Maester Martin + ProfessorMcDumbles

Hello! As you no doubt have surmised, I have been away lately, and very much inactive. RE final warning.

Hello, in response to your recent unhappy owl, I actually politely disagree with your evaluation. All I am doing is expressing my opinion on matters, and for some reason, you seem to adamantly despise it. I have made outstanding contributions to this wiki, a lot of work you could do, like giving articles references when needed from pages and adding information to empty image files. Personally, I don't like your tone very much, as I find it quite condescending and uptight, speaking to me as If I am unintelligent subject in your eyes, something which I am far from. But is expressing an opinion a bad thing? No it isn't, it is called free speech, and we are all entitled to it, and it is a very important thing to have in the world, including on this website. I just think because someone has a high position on a website, I don't think they should speak to people like they are inferiors, which I think you do with me and many others. I also found it quite insulting when you threatened to delete some of my image uploads, all of which abide by image policy, are licensed and correctly uploaded with all the relevant information, a threat I found to be somewhat petty. I think you dislike me because I have questioned your authority at times and also reverted many of your bots edits, but shouldn't I or anyone else have the right to do so if we have an opinion? Even if someone has controversial views, should they have their mouths covered with tape to stop them talking? I don't think they should. If you think I am a malevolent problem user who is destroying this wiki, I have actually tried to give you helpful suggestions on many an occasion, so I don't really no what else to say really. I would also like to ask maybe Seth Cooper's opinion on this ongoing disagreement, as he is the site's bureaucrat. Peace. User:RedWizard98

Article duplication mistake.

Hi there, this article was created today (Skirmish at the Great Lake), but is an accidental duplication of "Attack at the Great Lake", which details the same event, so the aforementioned needs to be deleted. Thanks - User:RedWizard98

Furthermore, I really dislike what the user User:Harry91 is doing with images. He has removed Pottermore images from articles, and keeps on repeatedly replacing GIFS on several spell articles with duplicated GIFs which are blurry and unclear, compared to the original ones in place, and not even leaving editorial summaries afterwards. Also, he has used expletive language on my talk page which I do not appreciate. Thank you and kind regards. - User:RedWizard98

Well, I am trying to discuss the issue, but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere remotely useful. At least I avoid using explicit language. That is all I have to say really. I'm off to bed now, so good night. User:RedWizard98

Past-tense Policy

Hello there Ironyak1,

I have been noticing some (at least in my opinion) unproductive edits done by a user. I was about to go undo them when I realized I should have another look at the Past-tense policy.

Reading through the discussion I saw a lot of things that I disagree with. Here are some highlights:

Cavalier One wrote: "Past tense on all articles is preferential for the reasons that it resolves all issues of when present/past tense should be used in articles. By keeping to a single standard, there is no room for misinterpretation. Wookieepedia, which I point to as the standard by which wikis should aspire to be like in terms of article content and organization, uses past tense for all articles, regardless of whether or not the subject is still alive in current canon works. Also, putting all articles in past tense ensures that, if for any reason Rowling releases further works set after 2017, articles will not need to be rewritten to accept the new timeframe."

This doesn't make sense to me. If the person/thing still exists, why in the world would we write it in past-tense? For example, would it make sense for me to say: "Seth Cooper was a bureaucrat of the Harry Potter wiki."?

Nick O'Demus wrote: "I think the Biography and Relationships sections at least should be written exclusively in past-tense. However, descriptive information, such as in the article header, Personality and Traits, and Magical Abilities and Skills could be present-tense, unless the character is confirmed to be deceased."

This makes a lot of sense to me honestly. What doesn't make sense to me was the fact that we wanted consistency over logic, which was something Starstuff and Cavalier One said.

So to conclude my message, I believe that we should revisit this policy and conduct a vote. I believe (and I am confident other users would agree) that this policy needs some changing. Please do give this some thought. Thanks for reading my message! Cheers, Harrypotterexpert101 Council-icon-FANDOM.svg (talk) 17:23, September 22, 2019 (UTC)

I thought you were talking basically about me. Yes, I have been made aware of this past tense policy about a year ago where Ironyak1 said it would require a human touch to change back a lot of articles to past tense. So, I was basically trying to help sort out this issue. Apologies if you find that unproductive. Thanks

Battle of Hogwarts

Hi,

I left a message at the talk page of that article, but there's no guarantee that it would be seen there and this could potentially have legal consequences. Almost all of the Aftermath section seems to be very closely paraphrased (if not copied straight word-for-word) from the book, and therefore needs to be deleted or rewritten as a copyright violation and plagiarism (unless I'm missing something?). I'm reluctant to do it myself in case it's misconstrued as vandalism. AdamPlenty (talk) 17:21, September 26, 2019 (UTC)

Fun fact

According to IMDB Fantastic Beasts is supposed to be a five part series that will end in 1945

However, in Book 1, it mentions that Dumbledore defeated Grindlewald in 1945

That brings me to the conclusion that the Fantastic Beasts series will end with Dumbledore defeating Grindlewald

Mundane creatures

I really sound want to sound uptight but I really don't see the point of not labelling non-magical creatures "mortal" or "non-magical", considering when they clearly are. It helps distinguish such creatures from magical creatures, and although I don't personally study Zoology at my university, this isn't complicated science, and I think it seems actually rather silly and denying obvious basic facts. --RedWizard98 (talk) 01:33, November 15, 2019 (UTC)

Had a thought that would benefit the wiki and other users, adding a Back to Top button. RE:References

But most of the references are unnecessary like their skin color, hair color, and etc. Things that you could tell from a picture of them, things that are so obvious they don't need a reference. Andrewh7 (talk) 01:57, December 4, 2019 (UTC) Andrewh7

So just as I read this right; things like the color of their hair, the color of their skin is not obvious to anyone looking at their image or playing the game? '

I still need clarification to some of the things you're saying. Astor Bellchant is stated to be a member of the prominent Bellchant family, so it is clearly stated that is his family. It's not like I added possible family members. Many pages have the Unknown length, wood and core thing, so how is Astor any different? Andrewh7 (talk) 03:07, December 4, 2019 (UTC) Andrewh7

The references on a character's infobox should be for things not obvious just by looking at them or are just common sense. Wizards and Muggles are obviously humans and by their last name, we know they're a member of that family. Just by looking at them, we know what their skin, hair, and eye color is so there's not really a need for references. I was wondering if it would be alright to remove any unneeded references regarding their skin, hair, and eye color; and family when we can see what they look like and by their last name. Andrewh7 (talk) 09:13, December 14, 2019 (UTC) Andrewh7
But I told you back when I removed Astor Bellchant's the first time that you could tell from the picture that you can clearly tell what color is skin, hair and eye color is so there's not really need for a reference and I thought you agreed, but I guess I was wrong. It is clear they are humans from the fact that they have a first and last name. No other being has a first and last name but humans. References may be always preferred, but not always necessary. Greetings from beyond the "tomb"

Hello, I'm pretty sure you didn't expect to hear from me again. But alas,  I have been thinking, and I have finally concluded that I have spent too much time and put too much work into this wikia to allow something as silly as an unjust ban taking place as an abritrary hand-out to Xanderen just because he didn't like me much and the undeniably biased view of certain staff members over not to be a sycophantic conformist to their subjective views on the proper way to interpret fictional literature to affect my desire for the continued growth of this wikia. You are currently left with two choices, since bias and immaturity has ruled that I can no longer be an active editor. You can ban me - again, forcing me to make another account the next time I want to notify you of revealed information not covered by the wikia, or you can choose not to ban me, and I shall - naturally - not make a single edit, and simply work correspondance. Which is to say, notify you on talk pages with links to sources of canon information the wikia has not addressed yet, or resource to improve on parts that the wikia falls short on, like HM and WU. Speaking of which:

To help flesh out the French Ministry of Magic, I've foind this : it's a reproduction French Ministry of Magic floorplan - Map - Original illustration from the film-makers, naming several bureaus and sections of the French Ministry you have missed. I also found a page with images and snippets of information compiled from what the production team has released. Here . If you want to update the pages of characters from Hogwarts Mystery, I believe this page. There's even a search fuction, so you can search the name of individual characters and find different mentions and appearances. They might miss some stuff, of course, so gameplay is a good way of compiling info, but they are doing a bang-up job, so there's quite a bit there. In conclusion, when I was banned, I was in the process of updating Grim Fawley's page. I never got to finish, but I had wits to save the source code mode, so I am leaving it here as a PDF file . Copy it and put it onto Grim's page, and see if it's something you feel you guys feel you can build on.

Looking forward to reading the articles. :-D

Re: Marietta Edgecombe edit, did you have to undo the whole thing? There were text edits unrelated to the timeline that made the article read better and removed repetitive linking. Also, I don't think that it is speculation looking at Canon. NV spells were only learnt in year six, and Marietta performed one. I completely agree, but this case is a bot different. You see the person in question has been a Moderator to this wiki and has "preached" many users about mini modding. So they know what theh are soing us wrong and yet they are doing jt. The user in question is not new to rules. So I'd strongly recommend a ban. Not because i don't think it's right ro give warnings, but given the history of the person's behavior (from a neutral perspective) it's clear that they would infact increasingly behave like this. Reverb frost (talk) 10:24, December 18, 2019 (UTC)

Cases from the Wizarding World unmade pages

By any chance, do you know anyone who played Fantastic Beasts: Cases from the Wizarding World? The app is no longer going to be adding updates and I was planning on creating pages for the characters that don't have any pages, but I'm nowhere near getting there to make them, so if the pages were going to be made, it would have to be now. Hello, I've got pywikibot up and running and am still trying to categorise categories alphabetically using your script. I pasted your code in and upon using the VSC code editor it says that there are five problems with it, you can see them in the following images (which are stored on an external site because I am not sure whether the HPW allows off-topic images).
Do you know how I would overcome these errors to successfully run the script? Thanks. ~Sidemen19 (talk) 7:03, May 21, 2020 (UTC)

They keep doing this and have not responded to any messages left on their talk page, so I think action needs taking quickly. Quick question

Hi there, Yak! Hope all is well! To keep things short, I'll just start by admitting I'm getting old and my memory was never really that good to begin with. A User has come to me (and in a very civil manner, so that was very refreshing) for a discussion about certain treatments regarding to editing; unfortunately, while I felt certain I knew the general idea, I failed to locate them actually being written in the policies (had I managed to find them, I'd be redirecting the User there,) which leads me to doubt my recollection.

One of the reverts is this one, with the primary issue being the subsection "Magical abilities and skills" (though the actual cause of revert was the fact that correct refs were reverted back to false ones, but that's not the topic of debate here,) the two major issues are: a] over-linking (examples: I removed 5 "Hogwarts", 3 "Patricia Rakepick", and 4 "Merula Snyde" links (those are just the ones that had a higher link counts) within the very same section.) My memory was that one section really doesn't need so many links to the same page, and I know I'm not the only one participating in this practice (have seen people putting this in their edit summary occasionally,) just that I'm having trouble backing this up, and I'm honestly feeling terrible if I'm imagining this whole thing (and I really hope that's not the case,) some clarification would be appreciated. b] random uppercases (examples: I reverted "Quidditch Knowledge" and "Quidditch Skills" to lowercase k and s.) This, again, is something pretty in-grain with me but I failed to find the HPW's stance on the matter.

At this point I feel wholeheartedly embarrassedly incompetent to form a response, because I don't think "I believe this is how it's supposed to be done" suffice as a proper answer; to me, that honestly sounds a bit condescending if choosing to interpret that way, and who am I so special to be the one that decides if that's actually how things should be done? Hence this message. I feel like the User deserves more than "I remember [...]", so if you can help shed some light on the matter, it'd be very appreciated. (And, in the embarrassing scenario that my recollection are indeed false, and Users can add as many links to the same page in a section as they please, or the uppercase is the actual preference, I would, of course, go write an apology for mistaking the best practice for those particular edits (though not about the refs reverts.) Hope to hear from you when you're available. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 15:32, March 8, 2020 (UTC)

Please let me know if you'd prefer I go ask someone else about the matter, thanks! Hope all is well. --Sammm✦✧(talk) 16:01, March 10, 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for responding! Yeah, I actually remembered the part about "only one link per article, excluding links in infobox, is sufficient," but I think I later then saw it somewhere else that, because certain articles are super long, the same link reappearing in different sections once in a while is understandable (and acceptable.) That said, does the policy on HPW mention this? ("For linking, the custom has always been to follow wikipedia's guidance on overlinking") Because if not, I feel like it might be expecting a little too much for new editors to somehow just know this is how it's to be done here, and for me I feel rather inadequate when I can't direct them to the policy.
Yeah again for this: "all the pages section headers use sentence cap (so only first letter is capitalized e.g. Physical description, First year, etc) so it doesn't make sense to capitalize all the words in the headers for this section." It's really weird because somehow I'm aware of this but not sure how I knew (through observation? really don't know.) Has it been written as clearly as you did above anywhere in HPW's policies? The closest thing I got was on Harry Potter Wiki:Layout guide's "Behind the scenes (notice the capitalisation)", but besides the "notice the capitalisation" comment, I didn't see any elaboration.
If those two things are something editors should be aware of and followed, can they be considered to officially be stated in the policy? Just so in the future, editors can just be directed to read the guidelines.
Meanwhile, advise on how to reply to the User who talked to me? Should I just repeat the confirmation I got from you? (That technically it seems like it's not really the User's fault for not knowing about these two specific editing guidelines.) Thanks for the help! --Sammm✦✧(talk) 00:57, March 11, 2020 (UTC)

Some concerns

Reposting the msg posted by me on Seth's page in case it gets unseen there...

Hey Yak,

I have two concerns which I wantto present infront of you or basically two requests.

First, I'm a bureaucrat of Harry Potter Wizards Unite wiki and was wondering if our wiki could be affiliated with this one to bring some activity there like linking the said wiki in the guidelines of hp wiki Discussions and on the front page of this wiki might be very helpful. Lemme know what's your instance on this?

Second, I wanted to express my desire to be a local Discussions Moderator on here. I'm already a GDM and a member of community council so I can assure I have the ability to be a trusted member of this community not to mention I'm very active on this wiki and know all the ins and outs of Discussions on here. But as established I need an admin to nominate me for a mod so would you be willing to nominate me? I'm not saying I'm perfect or was perfect but I have always learnt from my mistakes as I once got into an argument with Ironyak1 which went badly for both of us but I apologised and guess we both are good now. So, I request, infact, both of you to accept my requests and allow me to be an actively helping member of this community. It would be like a dream come true for someone like me to be a mod on here who has been waiting for this moment for like the last 2-3 years. To cap it all, I'm good friends with the current mods of the wiki and I'm sure together we all could collaborate to bring a fresh air to this community.

Looking forward for your reply. Ironyak1, this request is for you as well. Hope, this message would cover both of you. Thanks.

Newt Strike   Talk   Contribs 00:53, March 10, 2020 (UTC)

Hey, thanx for the reply. As said, I would raise both these concerns on MoM thread as well. I agree we don't have any restriction on WU wiki rn ensuring that posts should be related to WU only which is mainly cuz we don't even get enough posts to start with but I'm sure if the Discussions peaks some activity then we would restrict the content to WU only. Rn, our main focus is to aware people of the existence of this wiki which would be helpful if linked in guidelines of this wiki. I would check with mods too about this.
Also, I just want a thumbs up from your side regarding both my concerns(affiliation to WU & promotion to mod) to start with and then I can confirm these with mods as well. On a final note, are you okay with these things? I would then proceed to next steps, I suppose. Lemme know.

You busy Ironyak1? We are waiting for your response on the DoM and MoM thread. Hope you are well. Kind regards.

Newt Strike   Talk   Contribs 16:31, March 17, 2020 (UTC)

Hello Ironyak1,

After chatting with Reverb we have come to an agreement. We would like to give Newt Strike a month-long trial (starting now) where he will be a partial-mod, meaning we will let you use his GDM rights on the Discussions Board instead of giving him local privileges. If at the end of this month he has done well and has not made any "big" mistakes, we would be willing to hold a vote for his nomination. If that seems agreeable then we might have a compromise.

Here are some rules regarding the use of his rights:

1. He cannot answer any official questions, as you are not officially apart of the team yet (such as "can I have permission for this?", etc.

2. He cannot block anyone for any reason unless it is an emergency (whatever that may be)

3. He must always listen to Reverb and me. Failure to do so will result in him losing your nomination.

4. He will get a three mistake strikeout system, meaning if he makes more than 3 mistakes as a moderator, such as not dealing with a user in a designated way, he will lose his nomination.

Thanks, --Harrypotterexpert101 Council-icon-FANDOM.svg (talk) 13:48, March 11, 2020 (UTC)

Advice regarding updating a page

Hi Ironyak - Hope you're well.

I'm leaving a message as I'd like your advice. I'm currently updating the "List of references to Harry Potter in popular culture" page on the wiki but in regards to certain updates, I'm not sure about how to label them.

The references I was going to put in include Audio stories and comic stories from Doctor Who (which contain a surprising amount of references to the Harry Potter world) as well as include references to Harry Potter from the "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" graphic novel. My issue was that, in regards to the comics and graphic novel, should I make them their own subject or shall I put them under Fiction?

Magic Voldemort does not know or Value

Hello Ironyak1

I was wondering if you could help me with something. I have been talking to a friend who believes that Voldemort only studied the dark art's after leaving hogwarts. He thinks that since Voldemort doesn't understand what he doesn't value that this basically applies to most branches of magic except the dark arts, and he also believes that Dumbledore stated that voldemort didn't know a lot of magic (believing it to be inferior) despite Dumbledore's statement that Voldemort's knowledge of magic is perhaps more extensive than any wizard alive.

But the only branch of magic that I confirm for sure that voldemort didn't truly understand or value is love. Even Dumbledore's speech at the end of deathly hallows:

“And his knowledge remained woefully incomplete, Harry! That which Voldemort does not value, he takes no trouble to comprehend. Of house-elves and children’s tales, of love, loyalty, and innocence, Voldemort knows and understands nothing. Nothing. That they all have a power beyond his own, a power beyond the reach of any magic, is a truth he has never grasped."

Has little to do with actual magic and more about human character. I was wondering are there any passages where dumbledore did make a statement of voldemort's lack of magical knowledge passed love magic or a passage where voldemort considered any other branch of magic useless.

Thanks

RE:Dumbledore tabber

Hello, there!

First off, let me apologize if I caused any inconviniences by adding the tabbers, I saw these things on the Batman: Telltale wikia, another game with multiple choices, and it occurred to me that it looked like a good way of doing things. While I agree that "generally", there can't be multiple versions of the same event or person, but the way I see it, the sources that we draw from isn't generally games with multiple choice either. But this is, and I think that it would be silly to treat it as if it wasn't. The whole game is riddled with different outcomes, and seen as every choice you can make in the game, do happen in the game, you know, technically speaking, it was my understanding that since games are listed as a second-tier canon, it was my understanding that every outcome is rendered equally canon by default for that reason. Aren't they? In any case, the way I set them up was largely experimental; I wanted to see what people thought, and I'm open to removing them if you ask me to do that.

As for the present tense/including the word "player", I did that because I sincerely believe it is in the article's best interest to separate the game mechanics from the storyline as much as possible; Take the side quest "Howling Hallowe'en" for instance? You "duel" the werewolves and have to win to progress. But The Main Character never defeated Greyback, or any of the other werewolves; I mean, canonically, they might be said to brifely have held them off, but after the "duel" was won, they were still coming, and it took Dumbledore showing up to scare them off. Or when you duel Moody in year 6, sure you "win" the "duel" in terms of game mechanics, but as per the dialouge that takes place in the subsequent cutscene, he simply ended the duel himself once he was done assessing his/her skill level, and even admitted he was holding back.

So that's the reason behind that, and also the reason for why I continued to write past tense, and, as you to excellently phrased it, "as if the events are true and we are simply recording past history" before and after the tabber boxes. Again, I think this is a good way of doing things; it's unconventional, yes, but so is the source its derived from. Now, if you think that in view of the policy, this isn't something you can or will budge on, I will of course revert my edits back to before I added the tabber extension, even if I personally think we should take this to the talk pages and let the rest of the people pitch in as well. Perhaps Hogwarts Mysteries could be exempt from the usual rule since its multiple choice? Maybe it should be? I suggest we should include as many as possible in making that call.

Alternatively, if either you think that this is an administrative decision and not something that a consensus should determine, then I would like to propose that in the event that side quests where a specific outcome offers insight into, or references past, present and/or future events in the main storyline and hence distinguishes themselves from other choices, which, you know, makes the side quests look like stand alone mini stories that does not really tie into anything, then those outcomes takes presidence? For example, if you pick the choice where Dumbledore mentions he have been trying to get hold of an "expert" at the end of year 1, (as you can see in the tabber box), which ties directly into him leaving the school in year 2. Should that have presidence over the other questions? Should I write the article as if the discussions with Dumbledore is prolonged and encompasses all of the alternatives? Or  do you remember in year 2? Ben is missing, and the Main Character and Rowan is following a trail of messages that appears to be addressed to Ben from 'R', which leads them to find Ben trapped by the cursed ice.

Over the course of this one chapter, you sneak into one of the other common rooms, and gets caught by either McGonagall or Snape. If its McGonagall and you pick; "tell her the truth", you will just say that you went to look for Ben because you were worried about him, and she will sympathize with you but tell you not to do it again, and send you off with that warning. If Snape catches you, however, and you choose to tell the truth, not only will you say you were looking for Ben, you will also mention the messages from 'R', and Snape, who appears to already know about the cabal, immediately drops everything in favour of sending an owl to Dumbledore to tell him about it. Should this tie-in mean that we ought to accept Snape catching them above McGonagall doing it?

Yeah, so this ended up becoming a lot more wordy than I first thought. Sorry about that. But it's a complex issue, and I just want to make sure I adequately addressed everything you said and everything you asked me, and that I give my own take on things, as you requested.

Cheers. :-)

PS: I have been told my edits leave much to be desired in terms of writing British English as opposed to American English, but I'm not all that good at recognizing all of the differences, other than ou, s instead of s, and so on, so just wanted to apologize for that if you do notice any mistakes of that sort; I don't like the idea of inadvertently giving fellow editors extra work. Tfoc (talk) 22:17, April 11, 2020 (UTC)

Finland

About you deleting the Finland page I created, I was still searching for more information. In Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, there are several animals that can be found in that geographical area. The main reason, however, is that it is a good candidate for the location of Durmstrang, based on clues in the books and Pottermore.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by KingofOrono (talkcontribs).

Talbott image

Me and User:Yechezkelb are having a bit of a disagreement on which image should be the infobox image for Talbott's page: File:Talbott Winger - HM.png which shows him in his current look not just a look that is only shown in two side quests, and File:Talbott Winger.png. Andrewh7 (talk) 22:20, April 28, 2020 (UTC) Andrewh7

Can you clarify what you mean by most recent portrayal and recent in universe? Yechezkelb thinks it means most recent image, I think in general and on social media, and I'm positive it is the most recent look like in his normal clothes (the uniform) not the most recent image. RE: Wiki name change Edit

I'd say it's over my paygrade as well (because, naturally, as a bureaucrat, I make at least twice as much as you do as an admin 😛). This is probably big enough a change to warrant a community-wide vote on the Forums. The suggestion does make sense, I think, and I would be perfectly alright with either name, even though I think I'd tend to vote against the change ("Harry Potter" does seem the most popular name for the universe, even though "Wizarding World" is definitely more accurate and all-inclusive). --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 17:55, April 29, 2020 (UTC)

Vote closure

Hello! I apologise for the confusion surrounding this matter. The user contacted me off-site through Discord to inform me that the vote was successful. As I had been asked to action a previous request for user rights (For MechQueste) due to no currently active bureaucrat actioning it at the time, I believed the same was true in this case. Because of this, I admit I did not check the date of the request. You are quite correct that the vote should not have been closed this early and that is entirely on me. I assumed good faith on the part of Yechezkelb that established protocol had been followed. Since it has not, it would appear the best course of action is for myself or another to remove the user rights and reopen the vote to allow more discussion to take place. I would definitely be open to discuss the correct course of action, and to help correct any errors of judgement I made in this matter.

I carry out these requests due to my position as a Bureaucrat on this wiki, not as part of any association I have with Fandom as a larger entity. I am aware of many of the policies on this wiki, since I had a hand in crafting several of them back in wiki's early days. I am also aware that the site bureaucrats, save Seth Cooper, have not been as active as they have been in the past. Because of this, when requests for Bureaucrat-specific tasks are brought to my attention, I try to honour those requests to ensure they are done. I may not be active in terms of editing (something that I would love to change, admittedly) but I still take the role seriously when matters are called for. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 19:02, May 5, 2020 (UTC)

The user rights have been removed, a message has been left to explain the situation citing your specific concerns, and the vote has been reopened. I hope you will use the opportunity to weigh in on the matter as soon as possible.
I have taken full responsibility for my action here, and moved to correct it due to an error on my part in assuming good faith. I leave the rest up to you now, and if you require a bureaucrat to action the vote outcome, I will be happy to assist there. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 22:41, May 5, 2020 (UTC)

Re:Lestrange redlink

I don't even remember seeing that name before, let alone editing an article with the name in it. I'm not sure what to tell you other than that I might have made some sort of mistake and then forgotten about it. I do tend to read fanon wikis for fun, maybe I read the name somewhere ages ago and later misremembered it as a canon name? Just remove it. Tfoc (talk) 22:32, May 11, 2020 (UTC)

Charlie Weasley's/Ron Weasley's wand

Hello, the article that was originally titled "Charlie Weasley's wand" has been suddenly changed to "Ronald Weasley's first wand". Whilst this new title is not incorrect, I think the change was too sudden and not properly discussed beforehand. I am also unsure about pages are moved, so I would appreciate it if this would be looked into. --RedWizard98 (talk) 11:53, May 13, 2020 (UTC)

Fan made content

Both these articles (Wizardry II (fan made game) & Magic training (fan made game)) fall under the definition of fan made content, so could you please delete them. Thank you --RedWizard98 (talk) 17:09, May 13, 2020 (UTC)

Curious

I wonder as if the Wesely family should be relative to the Peverell family, from Ginny Married to the Potter family, my optional guess is yes, they are the one relative to the Peverell family.

Discussion board block

Greetings, As per the newly edited guidelines, I have set a local bloack on this account for 1 day. Reasons specified in the block. I would request you to review the posts made by this user and extend the block for a longer time. I would recommend infinitely. Thanks. Reverb frost (talk) 16:09, May 21, 2020 (UTC)

The original account's ban has been lifted. To the best of my knowledge if a user is found sockpuppeting, then their original account will also be blocked permanently. Could you please look into the matter. Thanks. Reverb frost (talk) 17:09, May 21, 2020 (UTC)

Blood status

Hey! I was hoping to get your opinion on a topic I posted about a few weeks ago. You have always had a good eye in debates about blood status, and you have pieced together well-founded explanations based on what we do know.

If a child like Mafalda was born to a Squib and a Muggle, could she be a Muggle-born rather than a Half-blood? Her article says she was a Half-blood. But Rowling has never given a specific rule book to how blood status works at every angle.

If her father was a Squib, he had to have at least one wizarding parent. To what extent will her wizarding grandparent(s) influence her blood status? We know a Muggle-born will get their magic through a Squib, but how far back in their lineage does that Squib need to be? Could she be a Muggle-born based on the fact her father was a Squib? - Kates39 (talk) 14:51, May 26, 2020 (UTC)

Sock Puppetry concerns

There exists a user, who is evidently creating multiple accounts to circumvent policy to randomly add redundant categories to articles, such as adding "Bullies" to Filch's and Quirrel's pages. There most recent name is User:General Kovalenko, and past names including User:Ordbot 75, User:Gghjvxxx Asfhjkjddssssa, User:Luur Kickofor25 and likely some others. I think you should ask fandom central to look into this, as these repeated edits are not only deceptive but very annoying, as they have been reverted constantly and show no sign of stopping. --RedWizard98 (talk) 17:10, May 26, 2020 (UTC)

Administration

So, I just saw the admin board, and I've never really given it much thought, but I'd be honored to try and become an admin on this wiki. I also had no idea that BabyIntelligence4ever believed in me so much. --SWLover2 (talk) 13:07, May 27, 2020 (UTC)

Article Lia Alu

Hi Ironyak1, can you have a look on this talk page, please? That could lead to trouble.

Look this: (cur | prev) 15:54, May 31, 2020‎ Camastra (Talk | contribs)‎ m . . (779 bytes) (0)‎ . . (Camastra moved page Lia Alu to NON: Please do not use my professional name on this website. please do not use my photos. You are in breach of copy rights. I do Not wish to add supporting roles which are hindering my Film Carrier.) (undo)

In the history you can see more. It's a little bit irritating.
