A former Hufflepuff student at Hogwarts kept a notebook in which he wrote everyday things.[1]
History[]
During his time at Hogwarts, a Hufflepuff student decided to start recording all his Gobstones practice in a notebook, which he later also filled with notes and messages about his life at the school.[1]
In the 2010s, a Muggle-born student found many pieces of the notebook scattered all around the Hogwarts Castle and grounds, especially near the Black Lake. They also found the notebook itself in one of the greenhouses, most pages had fallen out and it was water-damaged, a receipt was tucked inside saying: "Purchased in Hogsmeade on 5 April 1981."[1]
Entries[]

The scattered pieces in the 2010s.

That mirror... I will never forget what I saw inside.[1]
Hogwarts rarely has such good weather, so we decided
to play Quidditch by the Black Lake. But before long,
Smith sent the Bludger straight into the lake.
Smith complained about why we chose this spot—he
said the Black Lake was no good.
I think the Black Lake is quite nice.

...(illegible text)...
...which is why I'll be recording all my Gobstones
practice in this notebook, starting now:
May 6: Empty Classroom - 2 hours
May 7: Greenhouse - 2 hours
May 8: Empty Classroom - 3 hours
May 9: Near the Quidditch Pitch - 1.5 hours
...(text becomes illegible again)...[2]
A full coin pouch is earned, not conjured! [2]
This is it! The Gobstones Tournament! [3]
...I think I really messed up this time.[3]
October 27
The Hogwarts Library is the largest I've ever seen!
They've got books on about every subject.
I can't wait to borrow a few and enjoy an afternoon of
reading by the Black Lake.[4]
October 29. I promised Mother I
would write. It's the first time
I've been away from home for so
long. Christmas still seems so far
off.[4]
November 3
Finally found that book on Gobstones techniques. The
pages smell a bit peculiar, but it'll do.[4]
December 15
(The paper is soaked, ink smeared)
I've always heard that danger lurks in the Black Lake
but this is the first time I've seen it. The tentacle was
enormous... It nearly pulled everything into the water! [4]
January 4
Smith has heard about the Quidditch team rumour too.
I think it was around Christmas.
He just joined the team and seemed really good at it.
What a shame.[4]
April 30
I've spent the entire week in the library. My back's
killing me. Went to Madam Pomfrey, but she told me
there's no spell for minor back pain and that I should
simply walk more.
... ...
But I need that Outstanding for Defence Against the
Dark Arts. I need to be better.[4]
May 1
Another day alone by the Black Lake. It's so relaxing to
have some time to myself every once in a while.[4]
I will make Mum and Dad proud.[4]
I knew I should've stuck with Scrivenshaft's for writing
supplies. This diary is coming loose from the spine. I'll
make sure to check them out next time.[4]
Gryffindor lost to Slytherin this time. The spectators all
seem pretty disappointed.[4]
...(Illegible Ink Blobs) was praised in class by the
professor today. Though he did ask us to follow the steps
in the textbook, I couldn't stop laughing when he made
faces at the professor while taking his leave.[4]
I wrote to Mum and Dad about my classes and the
Hogsmeade trip. And about my new friend. He's
brilliant! [4]
I truly enjoy going to class. Every day brings something
new to learn, and it fills me with excitement.[4]
Everyone's so excited about our first Hogsmeade trip. I
couldn't focus at all in last Potions class, but
thankfully everything turned out fine. The little trick I
thought of really worked! [4]
A full set of Gobstones... Isn't it
quite an expensive gift for
someone he just met? [4]
I must not stop practising. A full coin pouch is earned,
not conjured, after all.[4]
Peeves messed up the classroom I usually practise in.
Guess I'll go to the Black Lake instead.[4]
I can do it. I have to do it. I
hope he'll be proud to call
(Illegible Ink Blobs) a friend.[4]
I won. But it didn't go as I
thought it would. All I hope is
that he doesn't believe what that
letter wrote...[4]
