- "I don't know 'bout you, it's just too hot today, isn't it? And it's going to get even worse. Temperatures up in the mid-30s Celcius. That's the mid-90s Fahrenheit, tomorrow maybe even hitting a hundred."
- — A weatherman describing the heat[src]
This was a severe heat wave that hit the United Kingdom in the summer of 1995. In Little Whinging, the use of hosepipes was banned, causing dusty cars and yellowing lawns. The inhabitants of Privet Drive were forced to stay inside their houses to cool down the entire heat wave. Despite this ban, the Dursleys' neighbours had used their sprinklers at 3 in the morning, according to Vernon Dursley.[1] The heatwave was covered in the Daily Express by an article titled KILLER HEAT.[2]
