Ackley Barnes (fl. 1890s) was a wizard and a prominent member of Victor Rookwood's gang in the late 19th century.

Biography

A noted thief, Barnes attempted to leave his criminal ways behind and become a legitimate businessman by partnering with Alfred Lawley, a professional Herbologist, to set up a supply company focused on growing and selling Venomous Tentacula plants. Barnes hoped to market the plants as a potential security measure for private residences, but eventually had a falling-out with Lawley, who found him too "volatile" to work with and ended their partnership.

An enraged Barnes resorted to hiring a student from Hogwarts to break into Lawley's underground greenhouse and steal the special Venomous Tentacula he had been growing to test their business plan, thus allowing him to open his own rival company. The student managed to acquire Venomous Tentacula, whether it was indeed from Lawley's cellar or elsewhere, and possibly asked for a reward when they turned it over to Barnes.

Personality and traits

Barnes was an intelligent and observant criminal with a vengeful streak that made him incapable of dealing with obstacles in a non-violent manner.
